Coming from Mafia 3 straight into this, I gotta say I miss the driving in Mafia 3 already, though the driving in this is decent enough and much better than the 1st.

Played for a couple of hours last night just exploring the world and came across a shooting incident. The cops showed up and told the shooter to freeze. The shooter naturally bolts and I'm thinking I'm going to be a good Samaritan, so I use a melee attack on him trying to help.

Big mistake. The cops instantly turned on me. I booked it out of there on foot and eventually got myself stuck in a corner that I couldn't get out of with all sorts of cops and swat types showing up. I'm hiding in a scissor lift and popping off a few rounds with my handgun trying to fight my way out when I eventually realize I'm not going to outgun them and more of them are just going to show up. I decide to jump off the scissor lift and make a run for it after shooting a few of the cops on the front line. I make it around a corner and out of nowhere a fucking K9 drags my ass down while mauling me and the cops finish me off.

Really enjoying this game so far!

Can't wait for PC release. This is the moment-to-moment gameplay I want.

Am I an awful person for wanting a laptop bag like Marcus? I feel awful.

Kriega_Urban_Motorcycle_Messenger_Bag__39384.1436267445.439.539.jpg

Kriega is a company that makes the heaviest duty waterproof bags for motorcyclists. I'm partial to this bag because not only does it look badass, if you ever get rained on, everything in there is fully protected.

I'm slightly late to the party, but at least I got to use PSN credit. Fired this up last night and stayed up too late playing a couple of missions.

It looks good and seems to perform well even on OG PS4. Marcus is clearly an upgrade for main character already. I should get a chance to dig into it deeper after work today.

Image quality is really bad. The shimmering on edges is bad even for an open world game and shadows make things look pretty fucked up.

Not sure if it's an install issue or something? I'm not usually sensitive to stuff like this.

It's so distracting when I am driving, I can see the edges jaggy/shimmering of every tiny section of the car. And if I drive through an area with trees it just looks like a mess.

I love it when games let you intervene on random / scripted criminal vs. police interactions. Am I wrong or didn't even the earlier GTA games figure that out? I feel like GTA 3 and IV each had systems in place where you could retaliate against an NPC criminal and the cops would sometimes even thank you for helping out. Too bad they didn't include that here.

Just went into a clothing store and on my way to the 'dressing rooms' I bumped into a woman who got annoyed ('who do you think you are?') and pushed me.

Not bothered by it I pressed triangle and started looking for new clothes in the shop menu, when I hear a guy argueing with the same woman who pushed me. They start this back and forth yelling and pushing game right next to me (visible in the shop menu), when another guy gets involved. He eventually punched the first guy knock out and got picked up by police.

Those random AI vs AI moments are hilarious.

I agree, the cars in Mafia 3 had a nice weight to them. Too often I feel like I am floating off the road in WD. But the variety of missions scattered in the world here more than makes up for it.

Well, my fiance went to the emergency room last night and because I live an hour and half away all I could do to keep her company was stay up as late as possible. To do that, I picked up WD 2 last night. So far, I'm really enjoying this game! It's got some great commentary and humor. I randomly hacked a box outside a house and inside the garage was someone trying to commit suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. I had to jump from a couple cameras to honk the cars horn and crack open the garage door so his buddy could pull him out. Had no idea that was going to happen and it was an awesome moment. So glad I decided to get this!

Man this game is awesome and blows the first out of the water and I loved that one too.

Only issues I have are 1) the car handling is still shit though improved, huge downgrade coming from Mafia 3 as others have mentioned and 2) Pedestrian count is amazing when on foot but when driving it goes to utter shit.

But yeah, everything else is am great so far.

Loving the game more and more as I play it. It's just a lot of fun. Has some of the Ubijank in spots (parkour feels weird at times, not super smooth for example), but I love the variety of ways to do any one objective. Been doing ghost runs a lot and on my way out of a place I often spot new things I could have done to get in or to let my drones do the work.

When playing this game, i feel like this game has more heart than other openworld ubisoft games, and most other openworld games. don't know how that comes to my mind.

This was the very reason I bought a PS4 Pro. I'm also not someone that sensitive to jaggies/shimmering, but the jaggies on the OG PS4 version, especially when the sun shines on objects/trees was just plain awful. Total mess. Probably worst I've seen in a open world game on console.

The Pro literally eliminates 95% of the jaggies and the IQ is incredibly sharp/clean and this is with downsampling to 1080p, which I'm sure is the big reason those jaggies are gone now.

So, I mentioned this earlier in the thread but have a pictture of it now.
Below you can see the right side of my TV (KS7000) and the pixels are just random colours when turning.

  • Its much more noticeable in dark areas as opposed to light.
  • It only gets bad when turning the camera right (pushing the analogue stick to the right)
  • Now, I know its not the TV as I havent got this with any other game.
  • Its not overscan as the TV is set up correctly to avoid that.
  • The PS4 Pro has the screen edge thing right as well.

I'm at a loss as to whats causing it and thankfully it doesnt put me off.
Just wanted to share and see if anyone else has anything similar.

Played a bunch last night and I think I did maybe 2 missions aside from the opening bits. Pretty much just cruised around taking selfies and picking up cash and research points thingys. Acquired enough money to buy the drone, then basically did some more random stuff with that.

This is one of those games, though, where I'm nervous about spending skill points, even though I've amassed quite a few already. Can anyone who has gotten further shed some light on what they think the best/most useful skills are?

Remote control cars and vehicles
Stun bombs
Gang/police hits
Botnets
Traffic
These are really all you need

Wow that's cool, I haven't done a lot of privacy invasions yet

Yeah waiting on a PC release. Hopefully it won't shit the bed like the first one. Still feeling burned by the first; I literally couldn't finish the game because it bugged out on me.

I, ahem, borrowed a copy when my Uplay version wouldn't work. Thanks Ubisoft.

WOW your TV is melting, the heat is making the pixels warp along the edge!

Piracy bragging is always fun.

Tuned in to watch Farffromsubtle attempt to play this, holy shit they blatantly ignored the tutorial prompts and complained that the intro didn't tell them how to play. Could barely figure out the first hacking puzzle. I haven't watched LPers in a long while but this is, well annoying at best and disengenous at worst, checking back at the e3 reaction and Fraser unironically did that "#can'trelatebecauseblackcharacterandrapmusic" schtick back at e3. :/

Ubis recent PC releases have been solid

Far Cry Primal, AC Syndicate, The Division, Rainbow Six

Have a good feeling about WD2

He is straight-up annoying and jaded af. This isn't the first time he ignored tutorial in game and then complained about something later. Cant believe I used to like that guy couple of years ago.

The AI v AI moments are what makes these type games gold. Shit never gets old. Gonna pick this up after work!

My Samsung has this too. Only with this game. Weird.

Yea he literally just asked unironically if the way Horatio and Marcus met and hugged it out is a black thing... Wtf?!

I'm a white woman and have no trouble relating to Marcus. You know who I did have trouble with - Aiden fucking Pierce. He was just awful. Sorry Aiden, you got your niece killed and then put the rest of your family in danger. All you, buddy.
And I'm saying this as someone who had no trouble playing Trevor Phillips.

Went to gamestop to grab this on my lunch break but of course someone was trading in three separate consoles at once, didn't have the time to wait. Might just grab it digitally. :p

Also on that lethal discussion
the fact that they don't cap lenni the moment when pulls that server shit is proof the game is meant to be played non lethally

I like watching them but Fraser is always frustrating me when he just completely misses critical information being spoon fed to him and then complains about the game because he is not paying attention.

Also, he over-analyzes everything. He can't just let himself go and accept the rules of the game/movie that he's presented with. He's hurting his enjoyment. Then Becky just agrees with him all the time.

I have a love/hate relationship with the show.

I thought the wait for the PC would be fine, but the good reviews and impressions is really making me want to get the PS4 version.

Hold tight, me! I can do it, just two more weeks.
