KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Care to comment on the KS8000 being an average TV? I've heard mostly positive things about it, and hopefully it's not just because of the input lag.

Hm.. And if it's ~$1390 (55", in Norway)? And the B6 55" OLED is ~$1750.

The picture quality obviously cannot hold up to the blacks and contrast of an OLED TV. There's no denying that, however for a column lit TV the uniformity, black level and contrast are pretty astounding. Considering the prices you're looking at though that's a very tough decision and it would definitely come down to your usage scenario. The KS8000 is better for gamers and can get very very bright which is great for moderately or well lit spaces. The OLED definitely beats it in pretty much every other conceivable way, but to me the shocking thing was, not nearly by as large a margin as I would have thought. The KS8000 can definitely hold its own at the top of the food chain. The biggest compromises come in the very darkest of scenes having slightly more definition and for some that's a bigger deal than anything else. I completely understand that. But for me the input lag, price and brightness were non starters (I've been around OLED TV's quite a bit.) So for me it just made sense to go with the extraordinarily cheap $729 KS8000 while I wait for the OLED's to get sorted.

There's no doubt in my mind I will make the jump to OLED in the future... it is the future.

How do you get a $729 KS8000?

Anyone here use the TV apps? I tried using Netflix to watch its 4k content and it was buffer city. Probably didn't help that its on WiFi. I'll get an Ethernet cable hooked up to see if that makes a difference. I do have an Amazon Fire TV box (also Wi-Fi) and when I checked out two 4k shows (Grand Tour and Red Oaks) the box does some sort of "preparing for ultra hd" thing and the show comes on. Thought both shows especially Grand Tour looked great and there was no lag/buffer issues at all. Smooth as silk.

Also I turned on my TV and for some reason my Xbox One turned on by itself. lol Did the TV do that?

For those who debated the Dynamic Contrast option, I just played the Last of Us standalone DLC Left Behind and in that game I definitely had to turn DC up to Medium because the game was too dark otherwise. With Uncharted 4 I did not have the same issue at all.

So I'd use it on a case by case basis or use other settings to make up for brightness. For most the off setting should be good.

Oh please tell me this is not the case. I wouldn't want a brand new TV that I have to change the settings for every time I play a different game.

Just use what looks best to you. It's subjective. You already had posters in here flip flopping between whether it looked better off or on, as well as whether low, medium, or high looks better.

So did anyone get a thin bar of lines of stuck pixels across the very very top of their KS8000 when they updated to the new firmware? They lasted about 10 minutes and I started to panic. They would show up in all HDMI inputs.

I called Samsung for advice, but before I spoke to a rep, they had cleared themselves.

I have pictures, but I can't be bothered to load them to imgur. Just picture, if you will, yellow and white stuck pixels, in the shape of rectangles, all atop the very edge of the television screen. Almost like the anti-aliasing shimmering affect you see in games but .. DUN DUN DUN.. in real life.

If anyone is still looking for this TV, Microcenter has the 55" model for $899.99. It's the best deal out there... other than the EPP from Samsung.

If you're in NJ you also get 3.5% sales tax from the store ;) Walked away with it at about $931

Is that in store only?

Here's a cool feature I found out yesterday. On my iphone's Youtube app, there's a new icon that lets me stream the video directly to the TV. No extra configuration needed, just have both devices on the same network.

Oh, that's nice. No need to use the built-in youtube app.

If only it were for more than youtube. I'd love some bootleg airplay feature where I could mirror my phone on the tv with minimal setup.

are you using the same settings i have posted? Curious if you have contrast below a 100 or anything. I will check that dlc tonight, but id be suprised if the DC doesnt just blow out the details and range like UC4..

Isnt that just a darker game? Im really curious to try this. i fiound even the dark scenes in UC4 great with dc off

I am trying auto motion plus on custom with blur and judder reduction at 3 for tv media. Going to see if i can find a setting that helps some of this motion stuff i see going on in tv media thats unpleasent to the eyes. My old tv didnt do it.

Just got this today and pretty happy with it. But its super annoying that it disables a bunch of settings when it detecrs that a PC is plugged in.

You can change the input to Game Console and get all those back. Might require renaming the input to something other than "PC" as well. I really have no idea why it has a PC mode that works differently in the first place considering you don't even get less lag than in Game mode.

I use the settings from rtings.com review for the most part. I had no issue with UC4 with DC turned off. With those same settings Last of Us: Left Behind was definitely darker than I liked. At least in that game I did not mind DC at medium.

Interesting, in game brightness above half on the slider in that game?

On the iPhone there's 'Smart View' app which can stream photos, videos and music from your phone.
I think that with a Samsung (or maybe any Android) you can get full mirroring.

Anyone has this mounted? What screws works best, kinda scared with how thin this thing is but would like to mount since my current one is mounted.

M8 fasteners. The length will be different depending on your mount I think. I needed 50mm for the bottom 2 holes and 25mm for the top.

We watch Netflix (4k and others) with our 8500 all the time. No issues whatsoever.
The TV is hardwired to the router.

And yea the TV probably sent a wake signal though HDMI.

Gotcha,

Has anyone noticed any of the issues with the TV back panel becoming loose? I've seen a few people mention it in other forums and some youtube vids of guys getting the adhesive tape (tape tho?) replaced because the tv was becoming loose and ended up happening a few hours again right after.

That's giving me second thoughts about cancelling my order before it's shipped out tomorrow.

Starting to think I've got a duff set.

The banding / posterization is the worst I've ever seen. Not impressed after forking out £1k.

Going to record a video to highlight the problem tomorrow. Hopefully a couple of you can then confirm whether or not you experience similar.

May want to start by posting your settings before you go through that kind of trouble.

I'm having a horrible audio delay issue.

When I set the HDMI Audio Format to Bitsream, the audio is noticeably delayed. It's even on the TV speakers so it's not a problem with my soundbar. It's there on every input, PS4, PS4Pro, Xbox One S.

Can someone try setting the HDMI Audio Format to Bitsream and check if there's a delay?

No receiver, bypassed that and gone straight to TV as my receiver doesn't support HDR.

My settings are completely default with backlight on 12. I do use DC for HDR but I have tried a combination of settings (including DC off) and the problem is still there. If I bring the brightness to 28 (default 45) I can minimise the problem but it is still there in some form.

Sounds like you got a bad TV.

Banding indicates a bit depth issue, more than a brightness issue many times.

Have you enabled UHD HDMI Color and have the Pro plugged into the proper HDMI input?

Thanks for the replies.

I am actually using a One S with this TV rather than the Pro this topic was intended for.

I have UHD colour switched on and the console plugged into the correct input.

Will post a video tomorrow anyway to get further opinions.

The 49" panels are proper samsung ones like the 55" right ? It's not like the 60" with their Sharp panels ? Not even sure I have the space for the 55" even if I wanted to spend the 300 more to get it.

After having the 55" for a week, I setup the 65" today and noticed that reds are a little...too red? Calibration settings between the sets are all the same. I'm guessing this is what you guys mean when you say panels are different.

What would be the proper course (if any) to tone down the reds a little?

Thanks!

I'm using my new 55KS8000 as a PC monitor. The set automatically detects a PC is connected and disables some options, including the ability to turn on Game Mode. Is this automatically enabled in PC mode to reduce input lag? ...if not, how do I change the settings on the input so I can adjust all settings?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see that this was answered a few posts above.

you need to adjust the 10 point settings if you are getting too much red.

That how i have mine set up. no delay here.

oh my bad, i thought you were talking about for movies.

No worries; appreciate the suggestion.

It's actually "a little too red" in all modes, both when gaming and when watching video content. I guess the obvious choice would be to adjust that R/G Tint option but everything I've seen has left that at 50/50 and I have very little knowledge on how that particular setting actually works.

Yes, thats not the way to do it. It is quite unlikely that the 'tint' needs to be adjusted.
