[Digital Foundry] Ghost of Yōtei - PS5/PS5 Pro - A Triumphant Sequel... With Ray Tracing! - 4K HDR Video

If it looks better, who cares? John says it is literally more stable that native 4k, except for some outlier cases. The screenshot I posted says it all.
Yeah, people take base resolution numbers too literally. Why would it matter if the final frame is cleaner and more stable than native 4k?

Aloy has better body and bigger tits than the skinny flat corpse that is the real actress, they just puffed her cheeks a bit to much and gave her the most retarded haircut, you change that alone ans she look good.

I don't agree that the real actress is a skinny corpse. She's hot AF (or at least she was, when in her prime):

She's aged quite a bit now. This is her from the more recent movie, Cocain Bear:

I can't deny that I must appreciate a fellow Gaffer who is able to recognise the glory of a fuller female figure. And I agree that in-game Aloy isn't ugly by any means, but her character model is marketly less attractive in the second game when compared with the original.

Triumphant levels of details and geometry:

What is the most suprising is that they were able to connect PSSR+RTGI and results are good, without "disco grass" or anything like that.

she did nude scene, watch those to understand what i said.

Her face is the only part of her body with some meat attached.

Proof that RT cant salvage a game's visuals. But then again, this is RT slapped on like most games at the start of this generation. not built from the ground up like AC shadows which still looks a generation ahead even with RT-on.

I have no idea wtf john is smoking here but after his 50 minute tlou1 remake video and the 35 minute review slagging off DS2, im surprised he only lasted 25 minutes here.

Yep. Bodes well for the future. But didn't AC shadows solve that too? I've always said this. PSSR has no issue with RTGI. It has issues with low quality sampling. If the samples are too low, the output turns to shit. Lumen samples are generally too low unless they crank it up and destroy performance.

Several issues led to this being underestimated graphically:

- YouTube compression, can't believe I need to mention this, but it completely kills micro detail, especially in a game like this with plenty of tiny foliage details, the codec simply can't keep up and everything starts to blur. It's one of the reasons DF uses the often mocked 400% zoom.
- Sucker punch simply not showing off the RT mode, or even mentioning it at all. Who the hell thought it was a good idea? Although looking back at the marketing it appears the game was taking a while to optimise and they were still updating graphical features. They even have a launch patch coming to further improve performance.
- Finally, I'm sure some wanted this to fail, especially with the recent controversy.

So yes, the game is significantly better looking than GoT.

Yeah it is. Watching the df video on my oled tv and its a step up from Tsushima.

This game had the worst marketing period ever. You have freaking RTGI and you don't market it? Please... are you okay over there, Sucker Punch? This could have changed perception a lot.

Gaf: I'm an expert on visual fidelity. Game looks shit. PS4 visuals at best. Blah blah blah blah.
Some clowns on this forum think their biased opinions are actually taken seriously in the real world.
Just shit on games just for the sake of it.
I wonder why this game is no.1 on preorder list??? Looks like regular folk don't fall for in development footage syndrome.
I'll enjoy the game thanks to the clowns for reinforcing my purchasing decision.

Wait, are you people seriously thinking this is a groundbreaking technical showcase?

People here have been saying for the last couple months that this is just a PS4 game upscaled. Clearly it's not. That doesn't mean it's a graphics showpiece - but it's clearly doing more than the last game was.

I'm in the camp of "I don't care about having groundbreaking graphics. Give me a good game with fun game play." Between the reviews and some podcast comments I've listened to this morning, it sounds like this game does a solid job on those fronts, I'm looking forward to it when it eventually comes to Steam.

Good to see that the improvements show in cutscenes too. Barely any difference in closeups (probably due to fake lights), but even NPCs are lit better with the indirect RTGI bounce in this case (see left)

I'm ready for the inevitable "We had this on PC for years already...."

"But RASTER, native resolution though..."

It's a fucking moving goalpost every single time
What really is a hoot is watching all the ones that used to bash upscaling methods when Sony was introducing it on the PS4Pro, being self-proclaimed native purists, now capitulate since it's the norm on the PC. From select DF clowns, to grown ass men in gaming sites and forums. Now, they speak out of both sides of their mouths, depending on the source of the product.

Cunts.

1080p is the bare minimum you want to go for upscaling to 4k, and that's even true with DLSS4.
Which is fine, since its an even integer upscale. Which is why native 1080p games looked better on 4K sets than 720p games did on 1080p sets. Less blurring and artifacts due to the even integer especially with a larger pixel scaling gulf.

Once again, it's the bees knees on PC, and those threads never get the same two-faced comments these ones do. I wonder why that is?

I rest my case.
