Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Not gonna lie, these discussions really kill my interest in the game.

FF threads on GAF are horrible. Judging from some of these posts some people here are ready to kill each other.

Is this an appropriate thread to ask questions? Was just wondering if there was an airship aside from the car and also if we get other party members besides your homeboys. Tried to go media blackout but fuck it already.

To be clear he was talking about seeing if they could use legal action to stop these spoilers, whatever that means. But he wasn't saying that they were going after people that spread them.

Yeah basically doing DMCA takedowns on videos and stuff.

Only airship is the car which you get post-game. The main 4 are your party members but you do get guest party members (at least 3) throughout the story.

Get the fuck out. What kind of monster are you?

Simple, not the same exact style. They could all be tall FF8 advent children humans and it would still be less work than what they may have to do for FF7r current. Or make them look more like FF7 small characters for gameplay if it's even easier. Just update the backgrounds, gameplay and whatever. It sounds like FF7r is going to have a open dense city where useless corners had to take hours to develop.

I'm a big fan of sandbox open world games, but after messing around in the FF15 demo I don't think it would be best if SE stuck to semi open zones like FF12, or a tiny tiny touch of open MMORPG games (the combat zones not cities). At least put indicators on the map that shows enemies like FF12. Searching for things to fight in FF15 can be fruitless for a while in the demo zone. No chocobo, a car that has slight load times entering and exiting, and you usually have to track enemies by sound before you see them as they sometimes materialize out of nowhere without you noticing.

You get guests (like FF12) that join your party for a bit. No other main members than the 4.

This thread is essentially Hyperbole Personified.

With a dash of "I've Played the Game and Liked It" vs "I Don't Own the Game but I Know It's the Worst Thing Ever".

This sums it up pretty well lmao, reminds me why I never like discussing Final Fantasy in general on here - all the tension & hostility really sucks.

It'll at least be a bit better in the OT.

Until then please look forward to the completely rational and reasonable FFXV Review thread on Monday.

I'll be perfectly happy if it turns out like MGSV and Dark Souls 2, where there's a whole lot of raging and negativity from a noisy minority, but the game actually has a lot going for it and is generally well liked by the majority of players.

There was a press release a couple of days back with Leviathan and HP bars of some Garulas.

RIP Garulas

AHAHAHHA Tabata just said they're looking into seeing if spreading spoilers is illegal and taking action against it.

In Trump's America, it might be.

Though, only person they could do something about is whomever leaked the info months ago that MAY be someone under their employment. They should get canned, and rightly so, if someone finds out just WHO they are.

Other than that, if it was up to me, who ever made the marketing choices to show so much from the ending portion of the game should be benched. It SHOULD be a rule that you NEVER show ANYTHING from the last 1/3 of the game. Doing so via trailers, interviews/magazine articles or such should be an offense punishable by being hanged from your pinkies via piano wire from a street light for a week. I know this is a "Spoiler" thread, but spoilers are fine for those who CHOOSE to seek it out and take the responsibility into themselves. When it is a video game company(hell, movie industry does this two, so lump them among the guilty) showing important spoiler parts from late in the game(or important parts from the conclusion), but pass it off as advertisements/promo material, that's shit's WRONG!

A lot of the thread is hyperbolic right now, but so is 2ch and a lot of Japanese blogs over these spoilers as well.

If you have a narrative and a witch hunt, its hard to knock impressions even if its not so bad.

Could it be the case that maybe a lot of this just does look really bad to a sizeable portion of people? The game has gone from my most highly anticipated title ever (since the 2013 re-reveal — I had a house party for Uncovered!) to a complete non-consideration.

Even if I think a lot of the gameplay looks fun, there are a ton of fun games in the world. A lot of the magic in Final Fantasy comes from its story (not necessarily its written quality, but in terms of drama and atmosphere).

But this game just looks seriously bland to "exist" in; it lacks any real sense of character, despite its distinct character designs. And I would've felt extremely frustrated to pay $60 for this game, spend 30–40 hours playing it (a sizeable amount of that time spent either running over barren wastelands, waiting in a car, or waiting in a boat), and seeing these plot points, these boss fights, that ending.

It is all just seems dumb — and the terrible localization doesn't help — and it's a huge shame that the game's many innovations will be buried under such inanity. Square-Enix has gotten away with hinting at there being something much larger in this game, as have many of its apologists. But the more of the game we see the more that it basically looks exactly like what some of its most cynical critics had been saying for a while.

It seems to be a game consisting of cobbled together assets padded out for as long as possible — hunts, car rides, extra dungeons. No doubt these can be enjoyable gameplay elements, but they also consume the least resources to produce and do nothing to enhance the game's story. Gameplay is king, but it's impossible to ignore the influence of story in Final Fantasy's ascent into the annals of video game history. (It sure as hell wasn't the gameplay.) They even excised the coolest part and put it in a movie! Come on.

I do hope that at least SE has finally come to grips with Luminous and can make something great with it from scratch. It's a shame that this game's many innovations (particularly in character animations and dynamic interactions) will be buried under the weight of the game's development hell. I'm super excited to see what FFXVI holds — I expect it will look a lot different, probably more in the vein of western RPGs than even FFXV is. Maybe it will not even be "Final Fantasy" anymore.

I think I'll stay out of the review thread. The stupidity is going to be off the charts and I don't think I can handle watching that train wreck.

You can't use a boat as you wish. You use it only in one scenario in a scriped event (that you can skip) before reaching Altissia.

The video trailers showing the boat and summons are misleading considering you can't use them when you want.

I don't think people are necessarily knocking these specific impressions for FFXV.

Personally, I just don't really care that much for or trust impressions anymore.

I get what your saying. Don't think i don't. I've thought everything your thinking and more as we've seen the development of this game and analyzed the trailers and gameplay segments and story beats and changes and such...

I'm just saying, a lot of people seem to be looking at the development of the game and then forming their opinions without trying it for themselves, or basically holding up their expectation from 10 years of hype(or even 4 years of hype) despite knowing this game has gone through a rocky development period.

People are looking at what's been taken out or changed instead of what's in there as a complete end product, and while its fine to think like that to a point, to discard the rest of the result is wrong i think.

Then what do you think the controversy is all about then?

At the end of the day, I want people who play the game to enjoy it and get something meaningful from it. That's all. I'm done posting in this thread. I sincerely hope you guys give it a go and enjoy it when it releases.

And many other people are forming the opposite conclusion (it'll be great! can't wait! love it! you're all just haters!!) from the exact same information and getting incredibly upset when challenged.

We go through this with every major game release. The people who decide they love the game already think that anyone who criticizes the information available has decided to hate it and gets upset. The OT becomes an echo chamber for people who like it, the review thread becomes an echo chamber for those who don't. It's not new. It's not unique to this game or Final Fantasy.

Obviously there are a few people who just have an axe to grind with FFXV, but for the most part the people rallying to defend FFXV's honor are jumping at shadows.

But what about those of us who are in the middle?

I know that this game is a mess development wise, and for those of us who know of the journey of 15, we can point out tons of stuff that have been compromised. Plenty of trailers with in game footage even as late as last year are not in the game as it stands right now apparently, and plenty of areas had to be cut or stripped down, and obviously even the planned beginning of the game had to be cut out entirely, rewritten and released as a movie.

But with that being said, plenty of people loved Bioshock infinite and called it a masterpiece. I thought it was a hot mess that broke all the promises of the preview footage, and was obviously a frakenstein being held together by glue and convenient writing, but for those who didn't know about any of that, it was a good game.

I think FF15 will be the same.

Everbody will still buy the game. Casuals love that stylish shit at the end and the game is geared towards getting to the end easily without much distraction unlike Witcher 3. New Final Fantasy fans will be born because they will like that kind of game. Some of us will hate it, some will love the Monster Hunter game in it. Story is just disappointing and lackluster.

Are you implying that Witcher 3 is hard? Because it isn't. Off topic, but I dont really get the high praises for Witcher 3. The world building is excellent, story was well told, but gameplay was incredibly plain and repetitious to me.

Anyhow, the impression I'm getting from this thread is FFXV isn't that bad after all. Unless I've missed anything major, gameplay wise, FFXV looks to be pretty okay?

Its more than okay, its positively fun

Yeah from all i'm seeing gameplay is pretty great, while the storys problem seems to be on its pacing and delivery on cutscenes, not that its story is bad, just more on the simple side

The game is good imo,but it has many flaws and feels a bit unfinished. If you read the Edge (p)review it was actually spot on. The writer said on twitter he felt the game was good, don't mind the overreactions. I consider it to be better than FF XIII, definitely.

What do you really know? Seriously, if you had actual development experience you'd know that compromise is normal. Change is normal.

A game can go from disaster to classic (or vice versa) in a day, code is that mutable.

The amount of change that can be effected by a large team over the course of a year is immense, and cannot be judged by a process of subtraction as looking in from the outside you cannot see what has been freshly added or implemented as a replacement/improvement over the same period.

And honestly, do you actually believe that making a feature length CG-animation is something you quickly toss-off because things aren't going well?!?

This is not what the game looks like on the Wii. But it's true that FFXV's environment are a bit underwhelming. The character models are vastly superior though.

Lol yeah that's definitely dolphin Xenoblade. Xenoblade on Wii is blurry and makes my eyes hurt. The component cables help a bit.
But it seems like that person was just trolling anyway.

Is this even in the game?

You know, I think the 2014 TGS trailer was the last time I had positive vibes for this game.

This is the animation for "Adopt a reasonable tone." for asking with the leviathan for it's power...

there's a second option to demand it's power...yet THIS is the reasonable one.

wtf was the acting direction for the mocap actors in this game man?? I'm so genuinely curious as to what they were thinking.

I completely forgot about that.

Come to think of it, I remember someone glitching out of bounds in the Episode Duscae demo and coming across a red moon, too. Wonder if that's still in.

Solid Sora, after the scene when Noctis eradicated Ardyn for good, did you skip the credits?

No, how could I? They were beautiful, with Stand By Me playing while the pictures prompto took of your journey appearing one by one :(..

Sora, answer this if you can, besides Nyx's cameo are there any other Kingsglaive references?

Well the game starts with Noctis telling Glauca to take care of Regis, so that was beautifully ironic. Other than that I don't think there were any references. I was hoping for a boss fight again daemon Glauca :(.

:(.

Yeah I'm seriously annoyed by people judging the game based on shitty rushed streams, judging the ending without knowing the context, judging the set-pieces without playing them.

That Leviathan fight was the hypest shit ever when it happened. I wasn't expecting the game to go full anime nor Noctis getting the powerful early on. It was a legit great moment, very memorable, flying througg the destroyed city ripping Leviathan's body apart.

And the last chapter was purely perfection man.. still gives me the chills thinking about it.

I mean, the game has its problem, and blue balls moments, but how couldn't it? It's a game that stayed 10 years in development hell, and it's actually quit respectable how good it turned out to be regardless.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that, not counting Bloodborne, this was the most fun I had with a game this generation. People should give it its fair chance.

Maybe Noctis is trying to act convincing seeing he is in an Italian-inspired city.

me, i read these threads, waiting for either the gameplay, or the characters, or the story to disprove my original negative impressions (from clips/demos), & to give me a reason to care about this game. &, unfortunately, that's yet to've happened...

Wait... YOu don't fight Glauca? The fuck? Didn't he live at the end of Kingsglaive?

Your point

It's not simple, it's convoluted as fuck, to the point that when it happens on screen it's completely incomprehensible. It reeks of "what weird plot distraction can we create without having to create any new assets or scenarios ... AH"

You should not expect to like the game from spoilers.

You should play it and see for yourself.

Exactly. :)

It's gonna sound hilarious but the best part of Kingsglaive is the conversation duel between Regis and Aldercapt during the signing ceremony. Pretty impressive. Then it went to shit by tainting one of the most iconic scenes from the Versus trailers.
