Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

Since lag seems to be part of the discussion today I was just wondering if lag on the 49" has been tested? The rtings tests are on the 43" specifically.

I know contrast ratios and viewing angles differ between the two sizes.

Should be identical. Only difference is the panels. Just like 49" KS8000 has same input lag as the 65" etc.

Can anyone here post their settings for play The last of us in HDR with the 43 inch model. My colors are washed out and I can't seem to get a decent setting.

Sorry wasn't trying to be confrontational I am genuinely curious as to if anyone has evidence that it is an 8-bit panel that actually passes all tests for 10-bit.

Because of its very high color gamut ratings I think it is most likely a 10 bit panel. Sets like vizio m, 6300, h8c with lower gamut ratings are potentially 8 bit even though they display 10 bit signal without banding.

Its very difficult to know unless mfg outright confirms its an 8 bit panel, which they are unlikely to do.

Either you that or someone in the know posts a tear down, and is able to recognize some components.

Try changing live color to medium and color temp from expert to warm. In game mode, shouldn't impact lag much, if at all.

My er Sony HDTV from 2008 stated it had a 10 bit panel on the box. 10 bit relates to whether or not it supports HDR, doesn't it? I wonder if it can do HDR.

I just gave up on HDR. It looks ultimately better without it, at least on this set. Starting to regret my purchase.
Weird, it looks perfectly fine on my end, 43" set as well.

I think ultimately HDR vs SDR might be comparable to when you change your factory-new monitors brightness from its high default to a less offensive low setting - at first you think it looks way too dark but over the course of a few hours/days, you will just get used to it and realize how retina-burningly bright the default was (in the case of HDR, you will notice the less blown out colors and the significance of brightness highlights and contrast -- and ultimately the SDR version will look off).

Did you watch some of the reference material LG HDR clips? All games I tried (TLOU, Uncharted 4, Shadow Warrior 2, Forza Horizon 3) still have ways to go until they look anything like that so maybe that's why TLOU isn't fulfilling your expectations.

My 49" X800D just arrived. There is a hole in the side of the outer box, so hope the panel is fine. Working atm so haven't been able to open yet but will soon.

Is everyone with the 49" size using the rtings.com recommended settings for the 43" or is there recommended settings somewhere else?

Well, I just pulled the trigger on the 49", it's getting delivered on Friday. My first foray into 4k and HDR, I'm very much looking forward to it! I've heard Final Fantasy XV looks amazing with HDR, so it'll be fund to try that out with the Pro next week.

Won't get a chance to set it up until Saturday, but I plan on using the rtings settings, and then tweaking until it looks the way I want it to (Usually brightness needs to be tweaked I find).

Probably lots of mucking about with HDR this weekend too, I assume. I think Uncharted 4 is still installed on my PS4 Pro, so that might be my reference for the time being. Maybe I'll download Infamous First Light too.

What kind of HDR content? I have yet to see anything with HDR on that made it worse. Without HDR, the picture either looks very muted, or at times too oversaturated and needs the more natural look.

Ah! I'm embarrassed to admit I had HDR set to on while on the tv and the PS4P was on auto, I will try looking in the options on the game and switching the tv back to auto.

Thanks a lot!

No. Leave that on auto. Turning it on seems to force the image to go into torch mode or some other nonsense. If you leave it on auto, the picture will adjust when the TV encounters software/video that is encoded for HDR color.

Anyway, I have a question:

Does COD Infinite Warfare support HDR? Because if it does, I noticed that my TV image gets washed out. Almost as if my RGB color range is mismatched, that kind of washed out.

Got my x800D setup and looks good. Only problem is I'm going to have to finally upgrade my surround sound receiver. Any recommendations for a new surround sound receiver?

Have you set the TV setting to Auto... and the PS4 HDR option as well?

Stick on a HDR game such as Uncharted then turn the INGAME HDR setting on.

Then when playing push the ACTION menu on the TV Remote... choose picture and the word 'HDR' will be up in the top of the black bar that comes in from the right of the screen if the tv is displaying HDR

I have both mt TV and PS4 HDR settings on auto, and external input set to enhanced, but I don't see the word 'HDR' on the action menu. Is there some other way I can tell if HDR is actually on?

Picked up the 49" model today at Best Buy for $650.

I took a stab at setting this thing up myself and boy, was I disappointed.

Looked at this thread and redid everything and everything is now awesome! Skyrim looks fantastic!

Thanks OP and everyone else contributing to this thread! I owe everybody a beer!

I use and am happy with the Denon X1300W. HDMI 2.0a, HDCP 2.2 compatible. Audessey calibration is incredible.

How did you get the resolution and aspect ratio tags to show up in the upper right corner? Is this a feature of the latest update (which is apparently still not out for EU as of yesterday)?

Just hit the action menu button and scroll down to display settings.

Got my 43" XD8088 this week for £510 after various discounts i could use. After using a 24" acer monitor for the last 3 years i can truly say i am blown away.

great picture quality and i have not noticed any input lag at all. Well pleased with this purchase.

How is the brightness on this TV, especially for HDR? Those who have bought one, are you happy with how HDR looks?

As far as I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong here) these are the requirements for "Ultra HD Premium" / "true HDR10" and how the X800D does with those:

HDR10 support: Yes
Wide Colour Gamut: Yes
HDMI 2.0a: Yes (on ports 2 & 3 only)
Brightness >= 1000 nits: No (only ~375 nits)

Has the brightness not being too high been a problem when watching HDR content, or does it still look noticeably better than SDR stuff?

I'm very tempted to get one and the "low" brightness is the only significant (possible) drawback I can see.

Yeah the one thing that made me not press the buy button for the 55" @ £770 on amazon yesterday whilst on a lightning deal @ 97% sold. All gone now obviously.

After one poster mentioned the h8c, I had a look then went through rtings and decided the best to go for is the KS7000 (uk/us @ ks8000) @ £979. £200 more expensive but it's nits are 1000 compared to 375 nits you mentioned or the KS8000 (uk/us @ ks9000) whose nits are 1375, which costs @ £1500.

I reckon the KS7000 55" at 1000 nits @ £979 represents a good top of the range, high quality/very good spec, budget 4K TV that is 'just' about acceptable to pay to get a 4K TV 'earlyish' (in terms of gaming/mass adoption).

The only thing I don't know if the KS7000 has Wide Colour Gamut.

The only reason I've not bought one yet is because my heart/mind are in conflict on spending £979 lol!

I don't think the KS7000 comes in any smaller than 49" which is a shame because I reckon if you/anyone wanted a 43", the Samsung couldn't be beat.

KS7500 comes in a smaller model I think.

I have an unusual setup in my work area room I want to try the 43" model with, but first I'd like opinions...

My question is... would the 43" model be suitable as a computer monitor? My videocard is more than capable enough to do 4K. But I don't have experience trying to use an actual tv (and not a panel marketed as a computer monitor) as, well, a monitor... so, would it work in this case?

What I want to do is use it as a computer monitor that I can swap to PS4Pro for gaming as well, since it seems to have enough HDMI inputs to accommodate this.

I looked at the Samsung KS series but since I can't fit a TV bigger than 43" in the space the current TV occupies, my options were:

43" KS7500 - it's curved, so I was very reluctant to get it
49" KS7000 - flat screen, but £879 so a good £300 more expensive, and also would necessitate rearranging various parts of the room which I don't necessarily want to.

The brightness is nice but since I watch a lot of TV shows at night with lights off, I don't think having eye searing brightness would be a huge positive in my situation - I've read in the X800D thread that people had to lower the brightness even on that screen for viewing in a dark room.

I'm not sure if I'd miss the added brightness for watching HDR though, so I'd be interested to hear from X800D owners on how HDR looks.

I use the 49" for a monitor and it rocks. I think the 43" share the same specs, so you should have 4 HDMI. Plenty of inputs to plug in your pc and ps4 pro. I have on this tv my rig, ps4 pro, xb1s and wiiU.

As far as video cards go, i have the GTX 1080. Nice card that supports HDR on Shadow Run 2. Which looks pretty amazing on the TV.

Things to take into consideration. I keep the resolution of the desktop on my pc while usin the TV to 1080p. For navigation ease, and its a friendlier resolution. Once i run any game or 4k content the TV adjusts and renders at 4k. I've had no issues whatsoever.

I also like that i have the streaming apps available on the TV, that means that i can use those instead of switching the calibration of the TV to a specific setting when using it from any of my hardware. So much nicer to have them all setup and not worry about it.

If you watch in dark/dim room close to the TV, it's great. It won't hold up in a bright room as well as the Samsung.

Same here.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.... well, I guess I have my first 4K HDR display come Tuesday. Just in time for FFXV.

This is my first 4k HDR tv as well. Coming from an LG 1080 LCD this tv really blows my mind haha, and its not even one of the fancy ones that people talk here. Good price for a really mid intro tv. Can't go wrong with that.

Enjoy!

Thank you!

The room the TV is in I'm usually watching it in darker lighting conditions so this is good to know.

I just got back from ordering the 43" model from Richer Sounds so this was great to read, sounds like I made the right purchase for my situation. Should be delivered tomorrow if Black Friday doesn't delay the next day delivery service, fingers crossed!

This brings up what looks like this on my end hence the question:

Has it always looked like this for you (with the white tags)? It's always been the above for me.
You need to close the home menu and actually be on the input you want for that video menu to appear, I.e I'm on input 2/3 then press action button on the remote
