Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So I've reached the start of chapter 5. The bros' decision to go with Ardyn to reach Titan seemed to come out of nowhere (granted, I was on a skype call so I wasn't paying complete attention). Mostly I'm just baffled by the animation. What were the mocap actors smoking and where can I get some?

Flip the coloring, change the bangs to side bangs, and it is Stella in a nutshell. Even her fierce but delicate personality kind of reflects what we originally knew of Stella back in the Versus XIII days.

Skuld looks and is nothing like Stella. I dont know what your talking about.

how do we know we hardly know anything about stella just that she was supposedly noctis enemy

Then how can you make a claim like Skuld is like Stella to begin with

i was going off what we know so far about stella i know skuld is not a surpose villien but there personaity are exactly like besids nomura like to use infuleces from other stuff

I can't tell if this is a troll account.

So what's the consensus on this?

A bit crap?

It has its upsides, but its downsides are very hard to ignore, IMO.

There is no genuine consensus, you'll like certain things in the game and hate certain things based on your personal priorities in these types of games, but nobody is going to say the game is 100% great in all areas regardless.

What exactly are the downsides?
Story? Gameplay? Characters? Voice acting?

Sorry this thread is very long.

It seems so far the music, graphics, open area traversal and combat are all getting passing grades. Its everything else that is suspect.

Story, characters, pacing, world design, the structure of the chapters and such.

Sorry this thread is very long.

The story seems like a hot mess (with seemingly HUGELY IMPORTANT character/plot details being relegated to the strategy guide and not mentioned in-game) and the treatment of female characters is... yeah.

It is more of an 8/10 with occasional 9/10 unlike the guaranteed 9/10 that people had hoped it would be.

Speaking as someone who played the game, the plot is a mess but the character progression and development (just for the main cast and villain) is top notch.

Ummm.... characters are fine. It is the side characters that are largely ignored. Nothing else aside from the main cast gets even a moment of proper story or development. Atleast they made the villain into something else by the end.

Not sure why you consider world design as negative when majority consider it a positive. Chapter structure is a mess in the last third, it was fine otherwise. I don't see any complaints on that.

I'm level 48 at the moment and I just got a level 35 quest to hunt some bee-like monsters and I literally can't do it, they take me out in seconds and magic barely does anything to them because they're floating and it keeps hitting the ground. I used a bunch of elixirs and a mega phoenix and I still couldn't kill a single one of them. They have so much health and my weapons barely do any damage to them. I noticed that I take forever to take out these hunt/quest enemies but they can take me out in 4 or 5 hits. Am I doing something wrong?

It's a seven or an eight at most. I expect the metacritic to float around 83-78.

So you agree with me on the characters front, great.

I get that your very lenient on this game, but other people are not going to see it like you are.

Even if we go with your view that only the last 32% of the game chapter structure falls apart, that's still a large part of the game that falls apart. And i would argue that generally speaking, a majority of the game is not story at all, which is going to severely hurt the enjoyment of those who want a strong story and narrative.

I agree with the guy above me who says that the game will have reviews 7 to 8 and occasionally 9 for the very positive reviews, but the structural problems with this game won't be ignored by most

Highly doubt it'll score any 9s, probably it'll be an 80 meta score or something like that.

Do you use weapons with elements the bees are weak against?

Lestallum was nice, although I wish it could have been bigger. Not necessarily Rabanastre or Archades big, but like... Balfonheim? Maybe? Also do we actually get to ride the cable car or is it just window dressing?

Who the fuck greenlit the Leviathan fight? Its even more terrible to do yourself than to watch on stream.

The first part makes no sense, apparently you just have to yolo hit him a few times. The second part is bash attack to win and succeed at certain QTE. Maybe everyone is doing this wrong, but it takes like 10 minutes to beat this bitch.

I kind of miss the open world. I grew used to it. The story is garbage anyway.

Stand far from him and don't move that much and just hold circle, you'll be done in minutes.

Some screenshot wallpapers...

thx for the wallpaper

Can I share spoiler screenshots here? I have a screenshot of the Luna/Regis/Nyx/White robe dude hanging dead bodies, that shit was brutal in a T-rated game.

Sure. I saw that during a stream, didn't seem all that controversial considering they are just illusions anyway and no real gore of violence to be found on them outside of their clothes being ripped up and smudged

I agree but I really didn't expect to see their dead bodies like that, especially not in a Final Fantasy, which is why it was shocking for me. But I loved it, it gave me a reason to wanna rush out and kill Ardyn.

Yea it's a terrible sequence. It doesn't help that it has the worst story moments for me. Luna dying right when Noct finally meets up with her, and Ignis getting blinded off screen.

Not to mention the emo atmosphere afterward which is understandable, but reminds me a bit of Star Ocean 4 lol.

Magic is really all powerful in this game isn't it?

I did like 1 Thundara multicast on the Marlboro and he was toast (bar the stupid gimmick).

Thinking about it, one of my biggest gripes are the obvious <Insert character DLC here> moments that happen in the game. Gladio vanishing in Lestallum for a bit, Ignis getting blinded, and Prompto between the train and chapter 13. I know Prompto's in particular is gonna have some interesting story stuff, but man are those thinly veiled places for DLC to happen.

It was terrible, but we did get one of the most beautiful CG cutscenes I've ever seen out of it.

During the story battles that involve the summons, do you have a choice on which one you want to use or is it scripted? For example, does shiva have to be the one that kills ifrit?

You can't really choose to summon any of the summons. Out in the open world I can't say "hmm I want Titan to save my ass" you just gotta hope he shows up. He still hasn't shown up for me at all and I've played almost 50 hours. The other summons have only come during story moments.

Scripted summons are scripted, you can't pick or choose. Otherwise I've never seen them outside of scripted moments and I have played over 42 hours.

they aren't neccisarily scripted, but you can't really choose either.

So far i've seen both Shiva and Bahamut summoned against Ifrit

I remember there being 3 or 4 scripted summons. I remember Leviathan, Thunder dude and the two you mentioned.

Those are scripted.

I've had Ramuh and Titan just sorta show up sometimes though.

How? Do you remember anything specific you might have done?

Ramuh showed up at night in Duscae when I was getting my ass kicked by continuously spawning imps and iron giants. Titan showed up when I was winning a fight against a Fire Iron Giant in Liede. It seems like thy have weird hidden criteria that just don't happen often.

Thanks for the replies. That's what I figured, but I'm very disappointed that I can't summon on command.

Ramuh is the only one where I think to summon him you have to be in the danger state. But of course it's random.

Leviathan loves me for some reason. He has shown up a lot for me. No luck with Titan, Ifrit or Bahamut.

If you go by the numbers, sure. If you go by the actual play time, this lasts for like, 2-3 hours? So not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.

I have two questions and I think it's best to ask them here: I'm about 4 hours in and got the second King weapon (the axe).

1. When do Chocobos unlock?
2. A few have maybe finished the game. How long is it? I saw someone saying 35 hours with mostly ignoring side stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Where you start to count these 2-3 hours???

Because chapter 9 to 15 takes a lot of more time... I will say only 13 takes close to 2 hours (the biggest chapter in time from these).

Chapter 9 is not linear unless you just ignore everything and just do the story. We can still head back at that point.

Chapter 10 is the point when it starts and yes, 10 to 13 lasts for 2-3 hours at most. It did for me.

We are talking about the point where the game goes bad and for most, it was chapter 10 to 13. Chapter 14 is the end anyways and it is also not linear, again.

1. Chapter 3. You need to do the Duscae quest with the Dead Eye. Go to Wiz Chocobo Post to start it.
2. Average play time is around 25 to 30 for most if you ignore majority of the side content. More than that if you try to do as much as possible.

I'd like to learn about the development cycle of Shimomura's OST. An RPG score of this size would probably take a few years and I remember she was announced as composer like 10 years ago. I wonder when she started and finished it, how long it was sitting in a locked safe somewhere or if she had to go back and rework the score or change things as the game went from Versus to XV. Hopefully there's some interviews with her in the coming weeks if there hasn't been anything yet. Will be cool to read since I've been looking forward to just her music for so long.

but there are still many songs for me to write so hopefully everyone can look forward to those. - Yoko Shimomura, March 2016
