Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Oh shit, so in order to bring back the dawn/sun... you need to sacrifice the night/moon...?! Lucasian poetry.

Yeah that's basically the thing. THe lucius line is inherently evil, and represents darkness. THe oracle line represents light and goodness in the world. Without the oracle line, the darkness that is the Lucis line will throw the world out of balance and infest the whole world, hence the plague of stars.

Without Luna dead, the oracle line was stopped, Noctis had no choice but to off himself and cancel out the plague of stars

Maybe. It is not a convoluted mess though, and certainly not without a proper end.

Maybe. XIII was also a game where you needed to read the data log, or a novella, or listen to lore explanations in fan videos and obscure Famitsu interviews to really appreciate the bigger plot beats. When you have so many people saying to watch the movie and the anime beforehand and even those that already played through the whole game being surprised by things like Prompto's parentage, that sounds very much like XIII.

It might not be strictly "convoluted", but it does sound like it suffers from a big issue that XIII did all the same: Wanting to have big plot moments, but not actually taking time out to do the legwork to earn them.

That's a bit different than what I was saying but I like it.

It seems to fit my head canon that the Lucian line can be traced to Diabolos. (The devil/death/darkness/time compression etc stuff falls in line with what I know of the Lucian line and XV's story at least)

Imagine that as a bonus ending or post finale dlc where Noctis comes back as Diabolos to be summoned by (one of) the bros against a major threat to fully fulfill his sacrifice. Maybe Luna too?

XIII had 8+ hours of cutscenes and despite having such a large amount of them, if they can't even explain the plot and even shit out on the ending, then it is a convoluted mess nonetheless.

XV doesn't compare to it in any way.

A memory Noctis is having before he dies? I honestly can't take it if Prompto did die, its too much for me to bear and I am already sad that Noctis is gone :<

And Ravus too :S . I still can't accept what happened, let alone how the writers handled his character. They could've kept some people alive. But, so many character deaths remind me of Type-0 all over again.

I'm actually fairly certain the Plague of Stars is the dust cloud that should have arisen after Meteor hit. In the World of Ruin there's an easily missable item you can read that says that the sun's light is being absorbed by dust particles in the atmosphere and it can't reach the surface. Which is what happens when an extraterrestrial object hits a planet. I'm not really certain where the Lucis line plays into it beyond the Oracle/King balance keeping it suppressed. We'd kinda need to know more to figure things out, which is a shame. Does this happen with every king? We know Luna was dying even before Ardyn stabbed her and it's pretty easy to guess that this happens with each Oracle. They receive the blessing of the Gods, pass it on to the Lucian king and then die as a result of the covenant.

Theres 80 pages of discussion largely supporting the similarities I just pointed out to you.

its weird that's for sure

It's more than hinted at that Luna was dying due to being the Oracle. Making the Covenants with the Six sounds like it just killed the Oracle.

That's terrible :( . But, it does make sense when Ravus told her not to throw her life away. When Noctis was chosen, if she didn't awake the six on his behalf, she wouldn't have to suffer.

Quick question about the patch, if you don't have the game yet, can you still download it without causing any issues?

Crap, the new patch 1.02 adds more cutscenes (aside from KG and Omen trailer) from the previous 1.01 patch. Additional 3GB it seems......

I'm too busy to replay this again, someone post what the added cutscenes are.

*fingers crossed: extra ending sequence*

the 1.02 update is only 8GB, so it only adds 1GB more to the crown update, its not its own update

*edit*
Disregard what i said, now i'm confused

Sucks to hear the story is disjointed but it was kinda expected given how Tabata had to basically conjoin/repurpose baseline ideas that Nojima and Nomura made up over 10 years while trying to make a mainline FF game.

I haven't completely spoiled the ending for myself other than the logo change and minor details. All the positive energy around it make me hopeful it will be up there with FFIX and Persona 3 in terms of incredible endings for JRPGs.

Now i get it. patch 1.02 is the Crown update! I was wondering where that fit into this.

Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed :) Its clear to see that Tabata put his own fair into the ending as well as took major inspiration from one globally popular movie in particular

Not really. The only external media so far are Kingsglaive and a guide with a detail that'll probably come up in Prompto's DLC.

The thread's mostly people shitting themselves over drip-fed spoilers, a video of the ending without context, and some impressions from people who got their game early. 90% of the posters in here haven't even played the game yet, and are working solely from media bits and pieces.

Right, but spoiler thread discussion != the story being as obtuse as XIII's.

Its up to the person making the claim to explain themselves.

THere are certainly tons of missing elements in this game to warrant the comparison regardless of how one feels about the stories of 13 and 15 respectively.

The fact that the anime, Kingsglaive are necessary to have impact on certain things will hurt the game for sure.

This is exactly what I said(?)

I'm just going off impressions here and in the non-spoiler thread. It does sound like XIII and XV are comparable in some ways. I'm not saying they're 1;1 or that XV is as convoluted as XIII, but I think I'm drawing some fair comparisons still.

Just add the 2011 CGI scene and we good

I thought he had to kill himself (per Bahamut) in order to kill Ardyn in the "lifestream"? Or was this a 2 birds with 1 stone kind of scenario?

And do you mean *with* Luna dead, not *without*?

The whole low expectations no disappointment thing is played out. I went into FFXIII with low expectations and was still disappointed, Went into FFXIII-2 with none and came out pleasantly surprised.

The thing is I've already gone through the disappointment knowing this isn't Nomura's Versus XIII. That very little of it is there, if any. I'm ready to accept this game for what it is. Even if the ending is basically Titanic's. Which sounds pretty alright in my book. I mean Titanic was a pretty good movie.

The titanic inspiration felt like something Nomura would have done so I very much like it. Also clean shaven older Noctis is the best. I need that as a skin

I cried at titanic's ending, so even though i don't think i'll have as much of a connection to Luna and Noctis as i did Rose and Jack, it'll still be great to see.

The final battle is basically neo vs smith from matrix revolutions too, which while being a terrible movie, was a pretty sweet fight to end off a rivalry that was built up over 2 previous movies.

Yeah i meant with luna dead, and yeah its a two birds type of thing

In that case the ending sounds amazing to me. Tabata really wanted to make people cry at the ending, by going this route.

While I doubt Luna x Noctis' romance born of politics will be as fleshed out as Rose and Jack's fleeting romance on the Titanic, still sounds like a great way to go for the emotional jugular.

those patch notes are gold, "deeper game mechanics" who wrote this shit.

they're totally gonna patch new ending, new story and eventually Stella due to feedback. pathetic.

I am baffled by the patching, this is a day 1 patch right? The game isnt launch yet.

Is it also a sign of times we are seeing story patches for a rpg, not dlc but cutscenes and cgi! Why were they not included in the first place...

Well they just decided to add parts of Omen in because of the positive reception the trailer got. It was never supposed to be anything more than marketing.

Kingsglaive cutscenes you can understand because they are actually needed to bring exposition that gamers who never saw Kingsglaive won't get

Let it be known. I cried as a grown up 26 years old man. I also loved Titanic and the ending still gives me feels.

Maybe I missed it, but how long was the main quest? Is there someone who got 100% already and how much did he take?

If just do the main story it will take you between 20-30 hours. I don't think that anyone has completed to 100% already, there is just to much to do in this game...

So, something I've wanted to know since Kingsglaive: Is "Diamond Weapon lookalike" an actual boss in game? Don't Blueball me SE!
