Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So is Shiva a "species" rather than an "individual?"
Did the Empire kill "Mother Shiva" or "Shiva Prime" or something?

The timeline of some off-screen events is rather vague, but it seems like the Empire has only recently succeeded in killing Shiva when Noctis arrives on the train, but Gentiana's been communicating with Noct for a while and has apparently hung around Luna since childhood.

They said they killed all the Astrals in the game yet they still come to Noctis' aid during summons. It's likely they just got rid of their form that's been around for awhile in that world.

You know, it's really disappointing that the enemy variety you typically encounter in the game feels so limited for most of the run. I didn't even run into a Cactuar until after I finished the game.

That was bad luck then. :/ I ran into one, or rather one ran into me, in chapter 3 in Duscae near the lake. (I thought they were only to be found in the desert, so that greatly surprised me.)
It wrecked my complete party and then it chased me a good while when I tried to get away. It was a truly WTF?! but also an awesome moment.

Sir Tonberry is best enemy in the game...dude's master Yoda quite literally, he's green, short, fast, does flips, powerful and has a lightsabre.

by the way, i love this theme that plays in tenebrae and how it incorporates the melody from the 'prologue' piece from kingsglaive.

part of why I really enjoyed the latter chapters of the game was the music. it really sold the games transition into a mournful, sombre tone. the world is changing and you feel it. seeing the floating island ablaze in the distant night sky was a really memorable image.

I am litterally waiting for him. Nightfall now, lets go.

Wow yeah, he's awesome. But Leviathan comes to the rescue. Hope he survives.

So any speculation on the DLCs?

Looks like Prompto's DLC is set in a snowy place so likely near to Shiva, which confirms Solheim.

They never released concept art for Ignis because Altissia and Invasion set piece would already be a spoiler.

I really hope that any additional enemy types created for the DLCs get sprinkled into the open world section of the game for increased variety.
I'm also hoping the DLCs will refine the Bros Skill system and maybe give them each an extra ability or two.

Only being able to equip one Skill at a time when some of them are so vital they pretty much can't afford to be swapped (Ignis' Regroup, Prompto's Piercer) feels terrible.

Gladio's is the first one right? His seems to take place in that trench in between Dsucae and Cleign which makes sense we were around that area during his disappearance.

Prompto's seems ambitious enough to feature a smaller open world segment. Hopefully we can visit it with the whole party.

Maybe Ignis has us travelling throughout most of Altissia like the cliffsides and all that.

The bros fate is open-ended in my opinion. Personally I believe the bros didn't die, they survived 10 years in a world of darkness and you mean to tell me they died after fighting for 5 minutes with a couple of level 30 iron giants? Nah brah.

I personally believe the Bros made it out alive because of the post-credits throne room stinger.
After "Brotherhood" being pretty much the driving theme of the game, if the Bros had died I'd expect them to have been curled up asleep on the stairs, or chilling beside the throne, or something.
There's just no way they wouldn't be present in Noct's dream world. He took the photo of them (assuming you picked a photo with the Bros) because they weren't following behind him right away.

I thought that the astrals were "dead" after Noctis takes them and then the empire just says they did it and get blamed/credited for the kill.

But then then the stuff with Shiva seems weird. Like, she is in a similar place as Titan was, Titan was just holding the thing, not moving, dormant, for ages until Luna woke him up so Noct could grab him. Maybe Shiva was just sleeping for ages and the empire said they killed her? Because Shiva isn't dead because she joins you and you summon her. But then she is dead on the side of the tracks and the desert is all snowy and weather is screwed up. But she is still alive?

Like I could see the empire "killing" Titan and Leviathan, they were there both times and they vanished at the end once Noctis earned them so the masses could see that as the empire killing them but Shiva was apparently dead a long time before you find it but not in the sleepy time dead but in actually killed. But she is still also Gentiana or something, but Gentiana was supposed to be a messenger to humans or something, like the divine version of the Oracle is for humans.

Bah, I dunno. I still like this game, I still think it had some cool moments and set pieces and was impressive to see but the story and characters were a massive let down. Like the main four were good, the nailed the brotherly bond and even the frustration and infighting (though it did feel a bit forced when Gladio was pretty much blaming Noct for Ignis' loss of sight). It's such a shame when someone like Dave gets more development than than most of the cast.

I hope they patch these missions in at the places that they cut them from the game and not just let us reach them separately from the title menu.
Yes, I'm very certain they cut them from the main story. >__< It's no coincidence that they leave such big plotholes behind, that Noctis' solo mission in chapter 13 would actually pose as the conclusion to these missions and that the second half of the game seems so short and unfinished.

I really hate how they obviously cut out 3 chunks of character development to sell to us on the side as DLC but I'm sure that sentiment has been mentioned a lot. It's like man, for such a long development cycle this game felt rushed enough without carving out chunks to make more bucks on it.

I feel like they solidified the story in July or something (minus the ending) and then quickly produced whatever they could. What a fucking gigantic mess this is. I am so fucking disappointed.

I can't get over how amazing Hellfire (the battle theme for Ifrit) is. I honestly think that might go down as one of the great music pieces in FF history :P

Once finals are over, I'll be playing the post game (maybe I'll play the game through again, my saltiness has lessened a lil).

Didn't they say something about Gentiana disappearing after Luna died. What is the timeframe for Empire's supposed kill on Shiva?

My favorite Gladio freak out. He starts going off on me about rushing ahead which I wasn't. I immediately turn around and Ignis is right on my ass blind as a bat, no problems keeping up. Gladio is nowhere to be seen just yelling at me from god knows where. Way too forced.

the DLC cut makes me even more mad my first criticism of the game prerelease. 1 playable character. This is a series specific thing, but having only one playable character feels so fucked

The worst part is that they shamelessly lie to us again and again. When they broke the news of the DLC missions to us the first thing Tabata assured was that is was definitely not cut content from the game. I gave them the benefit of a doubt back then. But now that I played the game, I am pretty sure they did exactly that.
Just like when they announced Kingsglaive and assured us that it was not cut from the game story and not necessary at all to understand the game. Or when they claimed they were worried for players without internet access and delayed the game for that reason. Then we got a huge 8-9GB day one patch anyway.

The worst part is, aside from Prompto, the gang don't even really seem to give a shit about each other
Gladio: the prince's sworn shield, just disappears for a few days and abandons his duty during a dangerous time and everyones all "ok cya l8r" then suddenly you meet up in the power station and Noct is all like "oh i forgot u were a thing", Ignis is suddenly blinded and there are practically no questions or details asked or given because lol buy DLC. I haven't got to the point where Prompto comes back yet but I very much doubt it'd be any different.

I half expected a window to pop up each time they did their own thing saying "Pay $10 to find out what crazy thing this bloke did u wldn't bleeb it"

Didn't they say something about Gentiana disappearing after Luna died. What is the timeframe for Empire's supposed kill on Shiva?

I think it was said in a strategy guide or something that it was years. (note: I heard somewhere in this thread that Shiva was dead for a while). They might've mentioned something about Gentiana but I can't remember.

well that's just straight up not true. Hell, chapter 10 is basically all about how Gladio resents Noct for not caring more about Ignis, and how Ignis resents them for treating him with kids gloves and how they are bickering a lot. Then chapter 13 (say what you want about it but...) is all about Ardyn getting into Nocts head using his friends as leverage. The last couple of chapters in fact is basically all about how much they care about each other, especially the ending.

They mention that "no one has seen Gentiana since Luna died", but yeah, Shiva has been dead for a while.

It's a shame what happened to the train. In several interviews back in 2014/15 Tabata proudly stated how it'll be another way of traversing through the massive world and that we'd be able to reach certain regions only by using the train ( well that's still kinda true lol). They even had this massive train station in an presentation back in 2015 which sadly didn't make it into the final game and which also makes me believe that their original plan was to have the whole world interconnected in some way.

We've ended up with a world that consists only of the 3 regions in Lucis ( which btw. were all shown off exendedly in all kinds of trailers and gameplay footages before release, so I really expected they have more than that) and they're lacking diversity big time imo ( espcially visible if you're flying with the Reglia F across the map) which wouldn't be a problem if the other drastically different regions of the world ( Accordo's surroundings, Tenebrae, Nilflheim/ snowy area...etc) would've been made explorable and connected to the world.

Yeah, I guess I worded that wrong. What I should have said is Noct doesn't really care get any explanations to anything that happens to these guys, even for the sake of the player who is sitting there at home thinking "Where the hell is gladio going, or WTF happened to iggy?" It just happens each time and that is that as far as exposition goes. The only person who he acts like a normal person about is Prompto when he goes missing.

I don't know if content was cut or if they added those scenes to the game specifically because they wanted the DLC to fit in somehow. Gladio and Ignis especially feel inserted into the main story, like they decided "this is where we can have their DLC, put a cutscene or story beat in there that would make sense."

Prompto is the only one I have doubts on. Him falling off the train and getting captured might be added in post-DLC decision, but Solheim and the areas we're likely to explore with him seem like cut content. Ignis to a lesser extent if his is in Accordo.

Oh, also, what does Carbuncle from the Platinum Demo do? I got the message at the start but never noticed it in the game. Someone posted a picture of it in one of Prompto's photos and I saw it in one photo in my 60ish hours of playtime but is that all? Just another photobomber like Gentiana?

The only DLC I would buy for this game is a proper combat rebalance with additional difficulty that lets me tinker with the party AI ala FFXII adds Iris and Aranea as party members. If I am making a bs list that will never come true I would also do party member switching and possibly a Job system of some kind.
For me you get one shot at telling a story, they failed so I am sour on Story DLC especially when it is blatantly ripped from the game where we make our noodle dreams a reality.

Solheim and the areas we're likely to explore with him seem like cut content. Ignis to a lesser extent if his is in Accordo.

I honestly forgot about all Solheim. Never saw it mentioned since the plot was supposedly about 4 kingdoms fighting over the last remaining crystal after they squandered their own.

Just skimmed through the monster wiki in the official guide. Is there really no Cerberus in the game or did I just missed him? He's so prominent in kingsglaive and the Omen trailer that's why I wonder?! o.ö

I'm not sure if that plot is still up to date. The ingame books clearly speak of only 1 crystal ever, even if I'm almost certain I've heard some references about "the last crystal" in the game or in kingsglaive

Just beat the game. I'm a bit confused about two things.

1) I never went to all the tombs and got all the weapons. I thought that was needed to beat the game?

2) Also, never got the flying car. What's up with that?

I'm not paying full price for DLC. Will wait for a PC or GOTY release, but hell no to full price DLC, especially if its blatantly cut content (which it more than likely is). Nah mate...

Seems like Prompto's can get big if it features the death of Shiva, the execution of Ravus, the fall of the empire, and the story about Versatel.

That's post-game :)

The flying car sucks :(

Trying to get my last tomb weapon and keep getting my ass kicked, 3 red giants+ snake+ flan everytime can not find the right door to get to the actual boss :/ fought those things 5 times in a row

Well..I've finished the game (main story), I have quite a few thoughts.

I haven't picked up an FF game in years, not since I played my big brother's FF games back in like 2002, he had X VI, VII, VIII, and IX.

Loved all of them and I can say VI was my favorite even if the graphics were no more than sprites, I adored the storytelling, I'm a SUCKER for a good saga.

Moving onto to XV, gonna keep what I liked short and sweet, the combat was to my liking, I don't mind doing different things though it was hard for me to handle at first I got the hang of it. I also did not mind the car mechanics, I saw a lot of people complaining and trying to compare it to something like GTA which made no sense to me. The characters are among the best in the FF series (the main four of course...) Ignis being my favorite.

Now...my biggest critique isn't the story but the execution, it felt like I was watching fragments of a whole piece of something fall before me and I had to piece things together myself. I've seen Kingsglaive and brotherhood but it still didn't answer questions for me.
Ravus in kingsglaive supposedly 'died' but hes back, where the development from where he failed to appeal to the kings of lucis and lost his arm?
Loqi?
Aranea?
Verstael?
Emperor?
Ardyn's past?

So many missed opportunities and so disappointing, that is the only thing stopping this from being a masterpiece to me.
Don't even get me started on Luna's 'cameo' of a appearance, I don't even know her lol.
It screams rushed and if they can add anything to the story through DLC's then they have a lot of work to do.

Overall, I'd sift it a 9/10.
Would be an 8.5 but I really loved the world and the music, the MUSIC!
Magna Insomnia, Hellfire, Hydreans wrath and my favorite..Luna's theme.
I absolutely hate kingsglaive now and mostly because I wish it was part of the game instead of a movie.

I can't get over how amazing Hellfire (the battle theme for Ifrit) is. I honestly think that might go down as one of the great music pieces in FF history :P

Once finals are over, I'll be playing the post game (maybe I'll play the game through again, my saltiness has lessened a lil).

agreed. phase III is just <333

Just saying, this was by far my favorite cutscene in the game.

Also, I found this room kind of funny. I can imagine Noct phoning his buddies and saying "I've discovered the plans for the Death Star!"

Seems like Prompto's can get big if it features the death of Shiva, the execution of Ravus, the fall of the empire, and the story about Versatel.

I don't even think that the solo missions will be that elaborate. It's probably like one dungeon and one or two short cutscenes (like typically for the rest of the game) and that's it. They are also pretty cheap when you look at the pricing of the whole season pass. Maybe 5-6$ each.

real talk

if chapter 13 was abridged would it have changed your opinion on the second half of the game?

i would have definitely been less sour

Another funny thing, going through the artbook now (it's nice, I like it) but I get to the section on the Hexatheon and it's got art for all of them except Ifrit. Ramuh just has a couple of sketches of his face and the staff head but at least he's there. Nothing on Ifrit, you'd think there would at least have been some cool concept art of him in the fiery throne from the cold open/end game.

So I'm in post-game now. Loaded the save after beating it and I just went back to past Lucis. Is there any reason for getting all the king's weapons other than achievement?

Ehh weapon hunting? Plus there's a guy at Lestallum that forges ultimate weapons by sending you out on hunts.

Seeing so many disliking chapter 13, i have to say i really liked it. The way Ardyn was playing with Noctis was just fun to watch/play.

I actually didn't mind Chapter 13 at all. *shrug*
You're like the guy who walks around in 30 degree weather with no coat on and says "It's not even cold out here, guys," aren't you?

It's a shame what happened to the train. I guess that explains the dialogue in the subway station at the end. I was like why are these dudes getting all nostalgic about this.

I honestly forgot about all Solheim. Never saw it mentioned since the plot was supposedly about 4 kingdoms fighting over the last remaining crystal after they squandered their own.

Solheim is actually mentioned in the CE guidebook I got today.

"Ancient history is marked by the prosperity of the civilization of Solheim". When this civilization was at its peak, the betrayal of one of the six astral gods, Ifrit led to a conflict known as the great war of old. This was fueled by the spreading of a mysterious parasite causing the death of millions and ultimately the fall of Solheim. Two individuals were chosen by the gods to lead mankind to survival. The first oracle, a woman from the Fleuret family; and a man from the Lucis Caelum who received two gifts from the gods: the crystal, and the ring of the Lucii. Using these artifacts, the chosen king ended the blight. From the ashes of the war rose four new countries: Lucis, Tenebrae (led by the Oracle), an alliance of commercial free cities forming Accordo, and Niflheim which aspired to recreate the domination of the ancient civilization (led by the Aldercapt family"

Quite a bit of history is mentioned here. But, looks like Solheim doesn't exist anymore. At least that's how I took it.

Also about Shiva: She awakens and is defeated by the empire in M.E. 745 . One year after the Fenestala Manor is attacked and Luna/Ravus mom is killed.

About Ravus after Kingsglaive: According to the radio reports, he was recalled back to Niflheim for treatment. What he did after that, who knows? I would've liked to know :< . There was another report in the radio on how he was expected to make a eulogy for Luna after the reporting of her death in kingsglaive, but he never made an appearance.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: They even included the name of Regis' father and Noct's mom.

Seeing so many disliking chapter 13, i have to say i really liked it. The way Ardyn was playing with Noctis was just fun to watch/play.

The reason people don't like chapter 13 isn't because of Ardyn (in fact, his manipulation of Noct and the player's feeling and expectations is great), its the design fax-pas's, the jumpscares, the card puzzles, the fact that you have no weapons (sans the best spell in the game, which makes stealth purely unnecessary) and just how long it is in comparison to the few chapters before.

Like, why couldn't they make chapter 11 longer? I loved that train battle.
And why not make chapter 12 more meaty by maybe have Noct and co help evacuate the remaining citizens of Tenabre.

Weren't you the guy certain this was going to be a 90+ metacritic?

I said 85, and considering after first wave of reviews it was 86 and now after the second wave its 84, i'd say I was pretty damn close :3
