Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Chapter 13 dragged on a bit but I didn't mind it. I got the idea of the whole thing a little after the hanger so didn't need more but I appreciate what it was going for. It was kind of cool exploring an abandoned base and piecing together why it was that way though it did feel disappointing learning that the entire imperial base had died off screen including the emperor and Ravus (woo... boss fights against melty face Ravus corpse and demon that totally really is the emperor and not just a random demon model guys, for serious).

But yeah, I liked how Ardyn was just playing with you and taunting you throughout. Could have used a little more variety and not just the same looking hallways and enemies.

I don't even think that the solo missions will be that elaborate. It's probably like one dungeon and one or two short cutscenes (like typically for the rest of the game) and that's it. They are also pretty cheap when you look at the pricing of the whole season pass. Maybe 5-6$ each.

Yeah. Including Shiva's death will make it big enough already.

I'd say the fall of Ravus will probably go to Ignis' since it matches that timeline.

The reason people don't like chapter 13 isn't because of Ardyn (in fact, his manipulation of Noct and the player's feeling and expectations is great), its the design fax-pas's, the jumpscares, the card puzzles, the fact that you have no weapons (sans the best spell in the game, which makes stealth purely unnecessary) and just how long it is in comparison to the few chapters before.

Like, why couldn't they make chapter 11 longer? I loved that train battle.
And why not make chapter 12 more meaty by maybe have Noct and co help evacuate the remaining citizens of Tenabre.

I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if they told me chapter 13 was basically salvaged from the remnants of Versus and barely touched

I really liked the Ravus fight though :(

Weren't you the guy certain this was going to be a 90+ metacritic?

Don't get me wrong, I like the game... But I was not expecting Type-0 1.5 for the main story. And Type-0 is easily the worst FF in my eyes, so the main story is insanely disappointing. I did not want to believe that the trailers showed nothing because there was nothing to show, but that was exactly the case.

I really liked the Ravus fight though :(

It was a cool fight and it looked cool but it's just the half animated demon corpse of a character that seemed to be built up only to die off screen until surprise! zombie fight!

I wanted more Ravus, he was a cool design and I wanted more from a character who had his homeland invaded and then joined up with the invaders. Was he doing this to survive? To protect his sister and what remains of his country? As a way to get revenge on Lucis for not aiding his country? The most we get is some of his motivation in Kingsglaive and then he flip flops in a pile of seemingly unsent letters around his corpse. Plus his design was reeeeally cool. I dig that white and purple and he looks better with a robot/demon arm.

Seriously mate lower your expectations 10 notches down.

Shiva died 11-12 years prior to the games story.

The DLC at best will have one or two dungeons with not much content or storytelling. In fact I would expect less story content than the 'Goddess Lightning' DLC XIII-2 got.

FFXV has no interest in telling a story.

Yeah, Chapter 11 should have been longer, it was really fun, but chapter 12 was so pointless, i was expecting to see the city and not sit at the train station and watching the city burn for whatever reason.

And btw., the ring and that spell, it really felt demonic, and i sorta expected something to happen to Noctis, also because Ardyn said something on the train or before, don't know anymore, something like "Since when were you touched by darkness", but they never got back to that, was also kinda weird.

I was skeptical since they were more focused on gameplay trailers rather than a proper story one.

People need to remember this as a lesson for the future: Japanese companies in general, and SE in particular don't care about spoilers.

They show them all the time in their trailers. If you feel like they're playing close to their chest and not showing stuff on purpose to not spoil their audience, the most likely reason is because they've got nothing more to show. They won't be keeping half the game under wraps.

Hell, Heavensward's launch trailer spoiled the stinger for the game.

The writing was on the frikkin wall for a long time wasn't it. We just refused to countenance the thought.

At least XV never mislead us with the trailers unlike MGSV I guess *weeps*

i went back and played the platinum demo, and it actually adds a little bit to the overall patchwork of the game. as i understand, it takes place during noctis' coma caused by the daemon attack in brotherhood that puts him in a wheelchair you see at the beginning of kingsglaive.

it's pretty bizarre how they have this playable kid noctis that isn't used in the actual game itself but instead relegated to a demo with limited availability...

I know it's a different topic but what was wrong with MGSV and the trailers? Never did play the games except for 1.

I would say they're both in the same camp, maybe XV is worse cause MGSV had most of the cutscenes they showed. XV legitimately had a lot of cut content from trailers as early as this year.

I know it's a different topic but what was wrong with MGSV and the trailers? Never did play the games except for 1.

They pretty much showed every cutscene in the game.

Gameplay trailers that showed the same things over and over again.

I was under the impression that SE was keeping spoilers under wraps considering that World of FF had a decent amount of anime cutscenes but none of them were in trailers. Now that I've played the game it's probably because they're ugly as sin for the most part.

So yeah never making that mistake again

Ummmm???? So much of the trailers weren't part of the game

I know it's a different topic but what was wrong with MGSV and the trailers? Never did play the games except for 1.

MGSV had stuff all about "becoming a demon" and this fall from grace, living long enough to become the villain, the birth of the Big Boss from the NES/MSX games where he was just a bad guy with a big army and nukes. Instead turns out Snake in MGSV was a pretty good guy, saving kids, being a cool action hero, taking out a giant robot, just being a cool life saving hero man.

Also the MGSV trailers spoiled the entire story, featured pretty much every single cutscene from the game in some way and even ones from the final chapter that was cut out.

They showed all the pivotal cutscenes that were in the game (which were the only ones tbh). And those cutscenes are very well directed on the whole so it just seemed like the game would be loads of that type of storytelling along with the new gameplay. But of course...then the game released. And the story was as bare nones as XV's and the cutscenes shown in the trailers were the only ones. Urgh didn't even bother finishing it!

XV on the other hand since 2013 never showed a trailer with much competent cinematic direction (bar maybe the judgement disc one and lo and behold that actually has all the 'longer than 30 second non psp' cutscenes from the game in it)

After beating the game and looking at some of the gaps and story beats missing, I'm convinced content was purposely yanked for the DLC. I have two views on this. One it sucks that things were yanked for the sake of DLC and two, hopefully this at least means we will get the DLC sooner than expected.

If Square yanked it because they could make more money off of it, I can accept that. This game was a long time in the making. I'll accept what ever shady business guarantees us an FF16.

About that...

Ummmm???? So much of the trailers weren't part of the game
Heh true. Forgot bout dawn and jump festa trailers lieees

Probably because they were so boring as trailers tehehe

Okay XV committed a bigger crime. Guess it was a smaller fall though for me as I never saw a competently directed trailer from it since 2013 whereas with MGSV it seemed like it would be a cinematic masterpiece right till launch day

The content that was yanked out for DLC doesn't affect the story that much. Stuff like the lack of Ravus, Cor, Versteal, Iedolas, Luna, etc does affect it. And it probably won't be covered in the DLC since they are focused on the bros. So it's more of they ran out of time and budget.

Totally agreed!

It's like there was no money left to make cutscenes.

I always thought developers assign a gameplay team and a cinematics team so didn't think they would 'run out of time' in terms of not being able to finish cutscenes!

At least XV gave us a real ending unlike MGSV I guess *weeps*

Fixed, it kinda did but i honestly did not follow it much so i don't mind it. But if someone followed this game for years yeah... I would also be pissed then.

Ifrit's backstory is so fascinating to me. It also fits with his kingly, Lucifer-esque appearance. If there's anything I ever wanted more history on, it's his deal. I wonder if Hero-Ardyn came into conflict with him in the past.

I personally believe the Bros made it out alive because of the post-credits throne room stinger.
After "Brotherhood" being pretty much the driving theme of the game, if the Bros had died I'd expect them to have been curled up asleep on the stairs, or chilling beside the throne, or something.
There's just no way they wouldn't be present in Noct's dream world. He took the photo of them (assuming you picked a photo with the Bros) because they weren't following behind him right away.
This reminds me someone mentioned a stream where the dude picked a photo of Cindy...leading to hilarious results since it shows up in end cutscene as well as the certificate.

About Ravus after Kingsglaive: According to the radio reports, he was recalled back to Niflheim for treatment. What he did after that, who knows? I would've liked to know :< . There was another report in the radio on how he was expected to make a eulogy for Luna after the reporting of her death in kingsglaive, but he never made an appearance.
.

Hmm, when does Ravus sans arm and Luna having their argument back at Tenebrae fit into the timeline? The flashbacks in the last chapters show this but as far as know Luna goes from Insomnia to Altissia after the events of KG (where Ravus loses his arm) and never enters the hands of the empire, let alone travel across the world back to her homelands right?

Another funny thing, going through the artbook now (it's nice, I like it) but I get to the section on the Hexatheon and it's got art for all of them except Ifrit. Ramuh just has a couple of sketches of his face and the staff head but at least he's there. Nothing on Ifrit, you'd think there would at least have been some cool concept art of him in the fiery throne from the cold open/end game.

Hence the theory that XV's "Ifrit" is a retrofitted Chaos.

So he'd be chaos or bhunivelze had it been fabula nova crystallis still?
Honestly I think it's safe to assume that Ifrit was just a summon when the game was still a part of FNC, and that the final boss would have been something different. The game changed so much.

So, i was looking at some background infos about Ardyn and found this on reddit

The official guide says that millennia ago Ifrit betrayed the Six in some kingdom called Solheim. He caused the demons to appear by infecting everyone with something that turns humans into demons. This was called the Great War of Old. Bahamut gave the Crystal and the Ring to the First King, Ardyn I believe, in order for him to cleanse the world of the demonic taint, but he took the 'scourge' into himself making him the Accursed, and immortal. The gods realized he had tainted himself so they chose another King to replace him, from his bloodline.

I think i will have to buy the official guide...

So he'd be chaos or bhunivelze had it been fabula nova crystallis still?

Hard to say in general.

The goddess etro played a large part in the world of Versus and how power was imparted, to the point where in general the current story's gods as the summmons are unrecognizable.

Although i do totally see a connection between 13 and 15's gods being physical beings and easily defeatable.

In 13, the gods were just robot denizens who had more magic power than humans could dream of. And in 15, they are just elemental summons that created the fury of the world, they are basically the Bijuu from Naruto

You know, it's really disappointing that the enemy variety you typically encounter in the game feels so limited for most of the run. I didn't even run into a Cactuar until after I finished the game.

I have the platinum trophy and never even saw one... closest I got was Gigantuar hunt.

btw. Just finished Pitioss Dungeon, holy shit, that was some intense 3-4 hours of gaming, my hands are still sweating from all those jumps.

Whatever happened to the jealous Izunia guy who stole his name?

So does this mean Ardyn is Noctis' great uncle?

This reminds me someone mentioned a stream where the dude picked a photo of Cindy...leading to hilarious results since it shows up in end cutscene as well as the certificate.
I almost choose this image of one of those giraffe deer pony, but just it's ass, cause prompto is obsessed with wildlife butt.

I picked aranea since she was the closest thing to a good character for me

Prompto going: "Ahh thats an interesting choice, but I see why you would choose that one" made it worth it, and why prompto is the best of the guys...the only guy I liked too

He is one of the Kings in the Ring

They also appointed the first Oracle as their messenger to humanity, Luna's ancestor.

Thousands of years pass and Kings are born and die and are tied as spirits to the Ring. Oracles live and die and guide the living King at the time. Everything comes to a head when Ardyn returns to the Empire in order to start creating demons again as Ifrit's servant, to enact his revenge. The events of the anime, movie, and game take place.

Ardyn XD

Hmmm I forgot all about the Etro and light of expiring souls business. I guess Etro could have had a role to play in the plague of stars...possibly. Guess stuff like this makes it evident how much the plot was changed!

Agreed on the gods being physical beings part

I found the empire all turned into daemons bit potentially lifted out of a whole civilization turns into ci'eth due to failing a focus (ala oerba in xiii). I feel like this could have been a plot beat lifted from Versus XIII that had gelled with the FNC myth. Although maybe l'cie, c'ieth plot point is exclusive to xiii rather than being in the mythology of fnc...don't remember anymore
------

I was surprised that nomira and especially nojima got no credit whatsoever. Almost feel like it is identity theft! An original concept credit at the least was warranted!

Argument? Do you mean the talk that they in Kingsglaive? If we're talking about the cutscenes with these two in the game... I think it's:

Kingsglaive > Luna goes back to Tenebrae (per brotherhood) > Ravus and Luna's conversation in Tenebrae surrounded by the Gentiana flowers > both siblings part > Ravus leaving the base after confront the bros to travel to Altissia > Ravus and Luna conversation about the ring & Noctis in Altissia > Ravus standing outside the palace in Altissia and lying to Ardyn of not being able to see Luna

it's arguable that the fal'cie aren't really gods in XIII, or at least the hierarchy is a lot more complex than in XV. pulse, lindzei and etro all created the fal'cie, but were themselves created by bhunivelze. the latter you barely even get a hint about in the original game he is that distant and omnipotent. in fact I think the limit of the terminology used in XIII is 'maker', which orphan uses to refer to lindzei (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

it seems that when the scope of XV was reduced so too was the lore, and with the removal of etro and chaos the summons themselves became the genuine 'gods' of the universe.

I just finished the game, and had the most hilarious photo at the end. I didn't save any photos throughout the game because I thought that was all just for sharing with friends. In chapter 14, I went back to the past to try to make some money for items and finally did that early game quest of taking the photo of the chocobo, and I thought I might have to save the photo in order to show it to him to complete the quest. So at the end of the game, the only photo available to chose from was that chocobo photo I just took. It was a hilarious pick as Noctis was staring at it nostalgically.

I wonder what happens if you have no saved photos?

Stewing on it a bit more, it could have been really easy to expand the story from what they had and did. They could have had him struggle with what to do when he became king as part of the story and have him find answers as he travels the countryside. That would have given more meaning to the NPC interactions he had throughout the game. Prompto, Ignis, and Gladio interacting with him on that front would have been so good in addition to the banter we already got. Man, so much wasted potential.

Just saw the ending, it felt like a very minimalistic Final fantasy to me (its story). Pretty much like Persona 4 compared to the others... i really liked the thone... but not much stuff happened and there's almost no epicness. Oh well...

I wish they'd expand on it with a new game without having to deal developing a new engine that has obviously been were most of the manpower has gone. The engine would also do wonders in a MMO...

I have the platinum trophy and never even saw one... closest I got was Gigantuar hunt.

I've only ever seen a Cactuar in the arena. And yeah, Pitioss Ruins was intense. I don't know if it was fantastic or horrible but it was a gripping experience. Very interesting move to have a multiple hour long dungeon in an action RPG consist solely of platforming. The controls weren't great and the game wasn't made for jumping around but it's very impressive the stuff they did there with what they had and it nailed the mysterious creepy vibe.

Top Bottom
