Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Finally finished this piece of garbage, the end game save takes me to before the final encounter, how do I return to pre-world of ruin? How so I return to when the game was fun?! :(

Alright, so the credits are still rolling and I have so many questions and thoughts.

1. Where was Cor? I was half convinced he'd be another avatar of the Six after the Gentiana reveal, but nope. As far as I can tell, he's the kingdoms worst soldier and the only reason he survived everything is because he wasn't around for any of it. Wasted character.

2. The timeskip. Why? How? Was Noctis conscious during it? Why did it even happen? It didn't mean anything other than an arbitrary "it's been so long!" that fell flat.

3. Ardyn was immortal, until he wasn't. I still don't understand his objective, powers or history.

4. Luna was pathetic. I'd rather have had Lightning in the game.

5. I REALLY don't like this Florence song.

6. Remember the scientist guy that appeared in literally one cutscene? No? I do. Wonder what he's been doing all game.

7. Prompto said that only MTs have scancodes in them, then opens the door anyway, claiming he was born in Niflheim... That uh, doesn't explain why he had the scancode that could open the door to the EMPERORS THRONE ROOM, nor why he has a scancode at all. He isn't a daemon.

I have more thoughts but my battery is dying, so I'll read up some impressions here and try to get my head around it. I liked the game overall, but the story took an incomprehensible turn, killed important characters off-screen, and generally was underbaked.

I don't think open-world hurt the gameplay, it hurt the narrative progression and made it completely incoherent.
I doubt going more linear wouldve fixed my issues with the gameplay, but at least then I couldve enjoyed the pacing, storytelling, world size (it feels like we've seen the smallest cut of any FF world ever), and progression. I'm so fucking sick of quest based progression.

It was all a dream.

What do you want to know?

There's so many holes and gaps. I don't even really know what the broader story ultimately was and I don't think SE did, either.

Things just happen, with no explanation, in a very vague and disjointed way. It's like they had all these ideas but nothing to say.

Oh yeah, what was up with the "Warp/Bullet Time" that *only* showed up for the final battle and the cut scene directly before it?

I mean, it explained how Warp works from Noct's point of view, I guess, but it was really sudden and random, like a remnant of an unused feature that got left as-is for that sequence.

Prompto is the son of the emperor

And it was ifrit that gave the world the disease that caused daemons

This is all in the guide book

Edit: I'm wong about him being the sonnof the emperor

Yes. According to the guide, he's the son of Verstael, head of Magitek Research for the empire.

A thing I did actually like about the final battle was that during the QTE where Noct uses every Royal Arm in sequence, Ardyn doesn't just stand there and take it - he pulls the same weapon as Noct from his own Armiger for each hit, but is bested or overpowered every time.
Noct doesn't just beat him - he shows him superior prowess with every possible weapon.

Hearing a chainsaw in the middle of that sequence is pretty giggle-worthy, though.

The best part of the game, for me, was during the post-credits scene in which Luna and Noctis smile nostalgically at that picture of the fucking Cup Noodles I chose.

News to me!

Cool storytelling, SE.

This game was literally "Ship The Fucking Product, Already - The Game: I Don't Care How, Just Do It!"

The original concept was supposed tt be a trilogy

I understand why they did it. Hopefully 16 doesn't suffer the same fate

Time skip Noctis and Afterlife Noctis is totally Takeshi Kaneshiro

I really didn't expect the story telling to be THIS bad. The whole section where you have to go get your car back from the base was just so so so stupid. It's a goddamn car, you goons. Why is the Niflheim army even interested in a car? Why dedicate this whole chapter to it?

Also from a design standpoint, making both open areas connected by two roads is so shit.

By the way, did they take out the shuriken weapon from platinum demo? Is it a royal arm now?

1. In the rollinginthedeep.gif/Wasted Potential club, along with Iris, Aranea, Verstael, Iedolas, Regis, literally everyone who wasn't Noctis or the bros.

2. I got nuthin

3. He was an old king of Lucis and he... absorbed darkness or something? And people hated him and cast him out so he wanted REVENGE but also death... um... yeah.

4. Join the Luna salt club!

5. HERESY. Bow down to Queen Florence. And go listen to Too Much is Never Enough, it was clearly written to be from Noctis' point of view and fits the game much better imo.

6. He turned into a demon I think. Offscreen, naturellement.

7. Please be excited for Episode Prompto DLC.

Also for a base it seems to be woefully unguarded

Open world didn't hurt the game, all the manpower they had to use to create and pull off that huge world probably did, thought.

But i think it was their focus since the very beginning of "FFXV", i feel like it was what they had in mind

2. I guess the most logical explanation (that I could find) is that inside the Crystal, during the talk with Bahamut, time flows differently. And what felt to him (us) like a few minutes were actually 10 years of his lifetime, and then the Crystal spits him out on Angelgard. I got nothing else.

FFXV's biggest problem is the luggage left behind by Versus. SE didn't want to publically cancel the anticipated project, so instead of starting from scratch, the FFXV team had to incorporate the concepts of Versus into the new game when Versus's story was obviously too ambitious for FFXV's open world design. They had to badly cut down a trilogy into one game instead of writing an entirely new narrative and concept that fits their game design and the scope of the new project.

FFXV was destined to be a mess right from the start. It's a shame.

Versus was also going to be "open world"... it's just they'd need like 3-4 more years to pull this gigantic game in a proper way or split it into two more games yep

I think they respected Nomura's vision about the gameplay concepts of the game (which is why it's cool), but everything else, they did not.

What bugged me aswell was in some updates they gave us, they told us all that thonga vs13 had that 15 wont. Like a death cult was going to be a big thing on vs13 but will not be in 15.

What was weird about the time skip to me was that outside of Noctis aging, I never got the impression that the rest of the group changed much. The grown-up boy said the three of them were going separate ways for most of the time, but when they reunited it felt like no time at all had passed since the last time they fought together.

I guess "true friendship lasts the test of time" was kind of the point of that, but they did a bad job getting the point across if so.

This is what I want to know right now:

Why the Emperor was a dick.

Was Ardyn always behind the Emperor?

Was Ifrit always behind Ardyn?

Why Ifrit is a dick.

Why did Ardyn take so long to start being a dick and fucking shit up for people.

Everything about the daemons and why they exist at all.

Why the astrals/gods don't just take care of their own business.

Why there weren't any Lamia in the game like they showed in Brotherhood.

If demons are light-adverse then why did that Lamia fight during the day?

Get your shit straight, SE.

There's a plot here, it's just missing several hours of exposition. Versus did not do this to FFXV. FFXV did this to itself.

I would have accepted "time constraints" more readily, but they actually, literally, cut out gaping plotholes in the story to resell to players as future DLC. They did this to themselves.

Why?

Hey... I don't remember this cutscene being in the game, either!

Save us, Final Fantasy XV: Final Mix+.
Seriously, though, the DLCs better fill in some narrative holes, and the "Expansion/Multiplayer DLC" better give us some new open world areas to explore.
Oh, and expand the Bestiary. I'm disappointed that, even at the end and post-game, the only Daemons that ever show up at night are Bomb Palette Swaps, Iron Giant and his Palette Swap, and Arachnes.
Magitek Troopers could use a little more variety, too, or maybe just some AI that's less susceptible to becomes a writhing mass of robot bodies.

Go in a safe place where you can sleep, choose "Summon Umbra". It's that simple and you're told so since chapter 9.

I like the Stand By Me cover but I thought its usage in the opening sequence felt completely off. I was also surprised that the other two songs weren't used at all. Makes me wonder if they never were supposed to be used in game or if SE ordered three tracks without knowing beforehand where to use these songs.

I think the 4 Chan leak also claimed the developers have made Luna/Noctis flashback scenes without knowing where to put them in game, so it wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happened to those songs.

You have most (but not all) answers in the game.

FFXV was destined to be a mess right from the start. It's a shame.

I would say otherwise. It has all the setting, character and background story to work with. Unfortunately almost everything get re-purposed to the point that they just took the original design and put it in a totally new game.

I see nothing in this game that resemblance original versus XIII. Even all the event in E3 trailer where they show the name changed are all gone. Like literally all of the gone.

FFXV do it to itself.

The Money scene wasn't even in the game rofl

Episode Duscae is kind of an alternate timeline thing.

Car didn't break down in Duscae, for one.

Heck, you could consider postgame pretty much a non-canon, 'what if' take on the world/characters/setting, since

1) Getting Type-F would have completely short circuited their needing to get anywhere by boat

2) Vyv's quest for getting scoop from Altissia can't have happened since the bros never came back to Lucis from Altissia.

edit: In fact only Platinum Demo is canon, since the water in Judgment Disc was purple and that sure didn't happen in the game itself

lol

Speaking of this... Why wasn't this song in the game?

Oh, wait, I get it.

everything was off screen

Why are there 2 theories for Prompto's father??

Some of you guys said he's the scientist's son and some the emperor's?
And both sides claim it's from the guidebook lol

Was Versus XIII supposed to take place on Pulse or Cocoon? Is it a million years after XIII?

Unknown.
It seemed to be an unrelated world that just shared the same Gods and mythos. (Pulse, Etro, Bhunivelse, fal'Cie, l'Cie, cie'th, etc..)

I have a feeling it would have been revealed to be Ancient Gran Pulse, or something, before XIII turned into a trilogy and Versus had to be gutted.

FFXV was destined to be a mess right from the start. It's a shame.
We 2 demos, 1 of which featured completely content not in the main game. Trailers full of shit cut from the game. An anime, a movie, a tie in game. If they actually just built this damn game and had a clear vision it couldve been fine. This is not versus baggage fault.

Episode Duscae is kind of an alternate timeline thing.

Car didn't break down in Duscae, for one.

Is this official confirmation of the split timeline theory? Are the different versions of Duscae different universes? And does Luna eventually become Ultimecia in just one, or all of them?

I think I'm wrong.

All i know he was the son of some high empire official.

It's Verstael, the scientist.
