Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I wish we could find out what the original story/vision was for the game. The new logo, while cool, seemed a bit showhorned in. I really feel like Prompto had some FNC mythos to his backstory. This game really had the potential to be one of the GOATS. It's still amazing, don't get me wrong. But if the end were more fleshed out, man, it would have been flawless.

best bet is that MT's were probably manufactured cie'th, with the empire finding out now to make artificial l'cie and magic (hence the "we found out something that acts like king and kingsglaive magic")

Noctis and stella were probably the only real l'cie

Why didn't the emperor care all his people turned into daemons and his kingdom is in ruins?
hate to break it to you, but you fight the emperor. shit just went to hell.

Why didn't the emperor care all his people turned into daemons and his kingdom is in ruins?

Yeah I agree.
I felt like the original concept of four countries, each one guarding a crystal, and going at war was pretty cool. Plus I liked the Noctis vs Stella battle.

Why didn't the emperor care all his people turned into daemons and his kingdom is in ruins?
Because dementia !

Played the game. I read a lot about the story after the final fade to black and I definitely missed 2-3 details that would have been amazing to know if they were presented a bit better.

Overall it had one of the best final acts of any FF game ever. I really enjoyed this game. Square done good. Made me forget all about FF13.

Final fantasy indeed...

Why didn't the emperor care all his people turned into daemons and his kingdom is in ruins?
The Empire didn't know that the starscourge turned humans into daemons until it had reached epidemic proportions. They definitely seemed worried that their people were dissappearing though since they quarantined and tried to treat the infected. The emperor himself may have become a daemon by the time anyone found out.

It seems the emperor was obsessed with power, especially that of the crystal, and was blinded by illusions of grandeur. He probably didn't suspect that Ardyn, who developed the magitech technology that grew the empire, was actually playing him the whole time.

Basically it was ignorance and hubris.

Oh, ok. Thanks.

10 hours, chapter 13. Guess it's gonna be 15h by the time I'm done with this shit

This is what I think they should have done with the game to give it more personality/context/narrative/ANYTHING etc, instead of what we got.
This wouldn't fix every problem with FFXV, and may even introduce others... but I know I would have been far more satisfied wth playing it than with what we actually got.... does this count as fanfic?

KINGSGLAIVE PROLOGUE + GAME INTRO
1. Every copy of the game should have included a copy (BD or stream, idc) of Kingsglaive. I would have preferred to not need a movie prequel and have it all be in game - but I don’t think players would accept another Haytham Kenway Assassin’s Creed 3 intro with Nyx instead of Noctis. so it is what it is and we keep the film. The way i see it, if it is going to be a (narratively) mandatory prologue to your game, then let everyone have access to it if they intend to play your game.

2. Kingsglaive ends with a monologue from Regis in a kind of “letter from father to son” way. Something inspiring talking about leaders being able bare hardship because of those who support them and people being able to bare it because of the support of their leader, as an ideal to strive for in being King etc etc etc, and how you can do what you need to if you know there will be others after you who you can entrust the future to (carrying on the theme from Kingsglaive)

3. Get rid of the current pointless time skip Chocobros intro. The game instead begins by echoing the same sentiment in an intro cutscene with Luna + Gentiana where they talk about the prophecy, the role of the Oracle and the King. and use this to mirror the importance of Luna so that while, on a personal level, yes she wants to support Noctis whom she cares for - her role as the Oracle is just as important to the prophecy and the fate of the people/world as Noctis’ is. Clarify that they know that the starscourge is coming and that only following the prophecy can stop it. Hint that Luna knows that doing so will have consequences for her. Gentiana accompanies her but also says she will have other preparations to make as well (this can be used to explain her being in multiple places during the game).

STUFF THAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED DURING OPEN WORLD SECTION
4. Game then cuts to Noctis + co pushing the car and game plays as normal and you open world faff as you do currently. Open World makes it hard to say exactly where this stuff goes, but broadly, it should have included;

For Luna
- I know this is hard for them to do when they knew she wasn't going to be a combat character (and not going to be in the party at all), but what we got was just completely lacking. The main heroine just needed more scenes so we could care more about her as a person while the story is happening rather than her feeling like she is introduced in retrospect.

For Rayvus
- Whatever scene you have where you first see Rayvus or show him as part of the empire, it should begin with him having a flashback to the scene in Kingsglaive where his mother is killed and he is calling to Regis for help, but from Rayvus’ POV.
- Then there should be some tension between him and maybe some of the other Niflheim commanders (probably this guy, Verstael), because they don’t trust him etc etc and as he leaves they talk behind his back with the Emperor.
- The Emperor can then make some kind of comment about people from the bloodline of the oracle being useful to his plans, maybe it has something to do with controlling the crystal’s power through artificial/magitek means, idk.
- Ardyn then supports Rayvus but then thats because he has his own agenda as we know. While Verstael doesn’t like it, he has to accept etc etc. He has to defer to Ardyn because while it is him who is head of the MT stuff he knows it originated from Ardyn (and we start to get a hint that there is more to him than the goofiness he shows)
- Aranea doesn’t really care because she’s getting paid anyway but maybe her + Rayvus has some kind of relationship where she likes to troll Rayvus because of his situation and it irritates him immensely. (shippers love this kind of shit).

For Noctis
- game mostly plays out as normal but with an additional Gentiana scene (somewhere between getting Ramuh and Leviathan) where she talks to him about, following through on the prophecy, about the ideal a king/leader should strive for (as per Kingsglaive end monologue/game intro), and an additional warning about Kings losing the support of those who follow them being destined to fall from grace (as subtle allusion to Arden’s past, that the player won’t pick up on until later)

For Chocobros.
- More story moments that reference their brotherhood stories or there relationships generally, like that optional one you get with Prompto in that random motel. Except they shouldn’t be optional at all. Prompto’s one is slightly expanded so maybe there is a slip and you get a brief glimpse of his barcode tattoo or something and he hides it and says its not important etc. Then they hint at him being an orphan from another territory and him being grateful that Noctis was willing to take a chance on someone with a background like his — so that the “oh btw guys i’m from Niflheim and may be an MT” doesn’t come out of fucking nowhere.

For Luna + Rayvus' relationship (this occurs roughly just before Ch. 9)
- Their scenes generally appear way earlier than they do in the game
- Flashback for their argument scene from Kingsglaive appears in game (where Rayvus says she is mistaken and she calls him a puppet of the empire etc)
- The night before Luna communes with the first Archean (Titan?) Gentiana + her have scene where she reminds Luna of how much of a burden the process will be on her. Luna shows that she is willing because she knows it is her fate and necessary to prepare for what is to come. Gentiana then leaves her temporarily and appears before Rayvus, and they have a scene where she talks about the role of the Oracle and asks why he would try to oppose it. Rayvus then says something about losing his mother because of Regis/Noct (see Kingsglaive) and how he can’t put any faith in either of them to protect the world etc if they couldn’t even protect him at that time. This starts to give the audience a look into his motivations etc
- Just prior to Ch 9 (Altissia), when Rayvus is promoted to head of the military he can secretly go to see Luna and shift some of their scenes to play out here - There can be some additional exposition here that the Leviathan is completely different from the previous archeans and that while she survived previous communes, in her weakened state this one could kill her and may not even accept Noctis at all.
- Rayvus tries to convince her not to do it and gets dialogue implying he is seeking power for himself to fight the starscourge and that the Empire was the quickest route. He has no faith in Regis/Noctis etc and doesn’t want to see his last remaining family member lose her life taking a chance on them. While Luna’s dialogue reiterates the messages from the game’s intro about a leader being able to endure hardship if they have the support of those who follow them and how you can do what you need to if you know there will be others after you who you can entrust the future to. She convinces him not to trust in Noctis but to take the chance on her instead. Then we can get the dialogue where he says if Noctis proves worthy, he will return Regis’ sword to him, but if he is unable to gain the support of the Leviathan, he will be forced to move in with the Nifls MT forces to suppress it.

LINEAR SECTION OF THE GAME
5. Just prior to Ch 9 the game cuts back to Niflheim and Verstael presents some kind of breakthrough in Magitek/Crystal but that maybe it needs something from Archaens / someone from Oracle’s bloodline to work? and it could help the Empire force its way into control over the crystal?

6. Chapter 9 is mostly the same except Noctis & Luna actually get to meet each other the night before the Leviathan summoning and they spend the night together talking. Its all very innocent because they haven’t seen each other in like 12 years but is a moment where both are able to express their fears that they might not be able to live up their fate
— but both acknowledge that they were able to come as far as they have because of the support of Chocobros/Gentiana, and faith they had in each other. Both show renewed resolve to fulfil their parts of the prophecy and game moves to the next day.
- The Leviathan stuff plays out in the same way with MT forces in the immediate area wiped out pretty rapidly due to its power. The fight and Ardyn appearing and killing Luna still happens but has more meaning for the audience at this point because we’ve seen more of her character.
- The fallout is the same, but with added scenes of Ardyn lying to Rayvus and convincing him that Luna died because of Noctis not being able to tame the Leviathan in time. Verstael also uses Rayvus’ failure to destroy or capture the Leviathan against him and suggests his punishment to the Emperor, but this is actually a trap - Emperor says Rayvus can redeem himself by undergoing a trial (which if it works will grant him new power and to be able to avenge his sister). The trial is basically daemonisation, and Rayvus is now Credo but with a dead Kyrie who wants revenge on Nero (you all knew i was bring that DMC4 aspect in somewhere!) using part of Verstael’s earlier breakthrough and also to destroy the glacial Astrean. Rayvus destroys the glacial Titan’s main body while Noctis is still in his coma.

7. After this the game again proceeds as it does now but with a bit more stuff to do in its linear areas. Chocobros are chasing after Ardyn to get Prompto, Starscourge is making night longer, increasing number of daemons etc. Cor doesn’t rejoin group but you get a cutscene of him defending people + organising evacuations etc.

8. Then the game shows whats happening in Niflheim and some people beginning to turn into daemons (Verstael / Emperor aren’t affected for some reason, but later you find out its because, they also underwent daemonisation).

9. Rayvus’ artificial daemonisation is different though, he begins to be affected by the starscourge because he has been “chosen” by Ifrit/Ardyn in the same way that the crystal “chose” Noctis and he begins to be influenced by Ifrit.

10. Reclaiming Prompto happens in one of the cut areas instead of ch13 - make one of them a Nifl base or something. Niflheim tech that stops you from using your weapons makes more sense here and you pick up Niflheim weapons instead to get through the section. At the end you have a boss fight with Verstael who does his villain speech™ (I dunno wtf his motivation is, maybe something like wanting people to have the power to determine their own fate instead of gods etc, which is knocked down by Prompt saying something like “but in exchanged all you’ve done is force others into terrible fates for your own gain” or something idk) and then you fight. whether they feel like saying Prompto is his son or not I don’t know, (but i don’t think it adds anything so skip it).In this fight you can’t use your powers as per ch 13 - but its a more scripted fight sequence like the Astreans and the game lets you pick up Niflheim weapons before so its ok.

11. Then you continue into actual Niflheim until you get to the Emperor and he does his villain speech™ something to do with pride/jealousy that shows him as a king who exemplifies opposite traits game is trying to say are ideal (something to do with knowing starscourge was coming but doesn’t see why he should have to submit to Lucis line. Rather than wait for the gods to choose when and where to save them, he would rather men take the power of gods and daemons and save themselves?) Chocobros/Noctis can respond with something that references how many people have suffered for his pride/jealousy before the fight. The fight is then cut short because its interrupted by Rayvus who actually kills the Emperor (avenging his mother) and is ready to kill Noctis to avenge his sister. The fight should be one of the better fights in the game like when you fight Credo in DMC4. You win, but its actually a trap because you using your full power on Rayvus is what Ifrit wants - the interaction of both of the “chosen” ones lets ifrit access some of the crystal’s power and take over Rayvus’ dead body. [Edit: he needs this to reincarnate. They can use some mumbo jumbo like "those from oracle blood line are able to link astral+physical plains" to justify it]

ENDGAME
12. Ardyn then reveals himself as mastermind behind everything and explains his and Ifrit’s motivations. Ardyn’s is basically the same as it is now, only with more exposition and Gentiana’s warning from earlier as foreshadowing. But Ifrit was one of the Astraeans that was sealed into him and convinced him that no one deserved the sacrifices that Ardyn made for them. Then over the millennia both have come to an agreement to seek revenge on all the gods/astrals/people/crystal final part of the game and 10 year skip plays out in the same way.

13. Penultimate boss is Ifrit then Ardyn, but rather than Ardyn clicking his fingers and putting Chocobros to sleep - with Ifrit’s last remaining power he summons a bunch of other deamons — chocobros know that this is the end for their journey and have some cool dialogue and say they’ll buy Noctis time to go after Ardyn. Noctis says a semi-goodbye but with dialogue that shows he learned the lessons from the kingsglaive end monologue / game intro. Says he was able to come this far because of them and that he is ok with whatever happens because he knows he can entrust the future to them.

14. End fight is Noctis / Ardyn, with a mid cutscene as it looks like you are about to lose - that has Noctis know chocobros are doing their part so he needs to do his. Gives a shounen-protagonist speech to Ardyn about him knowing that it wasn’t just his own power that got him here, and that he will live up to the expectations of his friends and the examples Regis & Luna had set for him. Same ending process as now except its more overt that the Chocobros survive and see Noctis briefly before he dies. They all get to see the sun rise before he passes, and just before he does he makes a joke about going back to bed. The other chocobros make boke/tsukkomi retort jokes that reference him always sleeping during their travels. As he passed, he is reunited with Luna in afterlife and we get their ending which now is slightly more satisfying. and we get there credits.

15. post credits sequence is the same camp scene because that doesnt really need changing - but add a line or two where Noctis says thanks for coming all this way (you guys are the best) etc as a meta line to thank the audience for playing.

This is what I think they should have done with the game to give it more personality/context/narrative/ANYTHING etc, instead of what we got.

thanks for the detailed proposal.

and I am very surprised many obvious problems that weren't a result of running out of time weren't identified during development by ANY ONE and Tabata himself at business division 2.

Most of us are not game developers. But even the community can come up with a better game direction.

Can someone kindly explain to me - in the simplest fashion- just who or what Ardyn actually is?

I think a scene where he explains it the music was louder than his voice and I didn't have subs on. :/

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. It was the most mportant cutscene story wise in the game, and I couldn't hear shit. No other scene had this problem

I think Costlemark just pushed me away from doing any more postgame content. What shit that dungeon is. Half the encounters are enraging (especially the asshole bombs and red giants) and if you fuck up one of the major puzzles, you get tossed into a room with a near-impossible battle. And lose that and you lose hours of progress because they decided you can't save in dungeons (which is bullshit). I got forty hours out of the game and that's more than enough for me.

And lose that and you lose hours of progress because they decided you can't save in dungeons (which is bullshit). I got forty hours out of the game and that's more than enough for me.

I finally did it today and I have no clue what or how I did it lmao. And by that I mean I got to the boss room after examining the second available cube, but I'm not sure exactly how the mechanics work or whatnot.

Square Enix should hire them then ignore everything they have to say

They should hire them for the director's cut patched content, rush them to put the content in the game to the point where they have to cut most of it anyway, and then have them patch the patched content afterward after everyone has already slagged on the game.

And then complain about their sales projections under performing

Well seeing how the DLC director knows there is fan demand and especially if the 4 chan rumors are true there's Luna cut scene's that got chop why not make DLC for her.

Wonder how she would play though.

They could even use the excuse that making the Covenants weaken her by the time chapter 9 happens

This year? No the opposite, people got mad when he said she wouldn't be a guest party member

Late 2015. I found it and updated my post. ;)
I knew he promised us she was actually going to be a guest member and we all were so relieved to hear that.

Didn't they appear with noctis in the afterlife very briefly?
I wasn't sure what was that

That wasn't the afterlife, it was the inside of the crystal, the afterlife is where Noctis and Luna are, remember that Noctis only dies after killing Ardyn inside the crystal, not when he's stabbed by all the asskings.
And pretty sure they weren't really there, it's just the usual anime "power of friendship" attack like we see in other japanese media including other FF games, they aren even there when Noc actually attacks Ardyn if you notice.

I had the same thought too. Everyone else there including the former kings were definitely dead. The bros aren't explicitly shown to die though and if they didn't I'm not sure why they didn't at least show them in the dawn scene.

edit: definitely inside the crystal. my bad. they should be alive then

Sunk 135 hours into the game.

29vlWetl.jpg

Main quests and story completed at 80 hours.

i4dvMA0l.jpg

Chapter 15 dungeons, all 7 of them completed. Steyliff and Costlemark are the most difficult of them due to their nature: Steyliff being elaborately long, Costlemark for not being able to use items, only Healcasts to heal up.

cPnAy4Ll.jpg

Randolph's Chapter 15 hunts completed, killed that Level 120 Naglfar boss.

R3xhV6Yl.jpg

Adamantoise annihilated.

Pitioss Dungeon conquered. With that Black Hood as reward.

DaVV2Mfl.jpg

Liege of The Lake and The Devil of Cygillan caught.

Level 99 for every member, Level 10 for their respective skills. Hunter level 10 as well. Platinum-ed it.

Each member wields their most damaging weapon attack-stat-wise: Noctis with Balmung sword and complete Armiger weapons, Ignis with Zwill Crossblade and Flayer lance, Gladiolus with Apocalypse greatsword and Ziedrich shield, and Prompto with Death Penalty firearm and Drillbreaker.

Still missing 5 of the 103 recipes. Pink Jade Gar fish is still out there to be caught, and the "fishiary" still incomplete. MA-X Angelus Level 99 still hasn't dropped Magitek Suit II when first defeated, although I have not stat-boosted with the Papa Bird Baby Bowl dish that boosts 100% drop. Stopped Totomostro wagering with only enough medals to win Llymlaen reel for fishing. Did not attempt any of the Chocobo races. Did not trade up any of the Oracle Ascension coins as most of the items offered are rewarded in the 7 optional dungeons in Chapter 15.

It's a wrap for me. Will only revisit if there's new content from the December update and when Season Pass content drops.

The kings can pop whenever they want, they appear in the real world too.

I doubt the bros are alive. We never got a hint of such a thing IMO, and there's generally no point to them being alive in the first place.

I can say the same thing about them being dead. Since every major death is either shown or explicitly stated within the game I'd argue that the bros are alive since there's no point in killing them off nor any suggestion of their deaths.

Of course there is a point, is up to them to reconstruct Lucis, Noctis choose them to do so, he alreasy says so. Also the last words Noctis says to the bros are the very same last words that Regis says to him before the road trip, in the game opening. He's passing the flag to them like Regis did.
