Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I can't get over how mean Leviathan is in this game. Titan challenges Noctis like a true warrior, Ramuh outright agrees to help, then we get to this serpent lady-god and she's like "I'LL EAT YOU AND DESTROY THIS CITY"

Completely independent of being female, Leviathan acted like a petty bitch lmao. "I'm a god, how dare you wake me from my beauty sleep, peasant."

I loved that aspect.

If there are any gods in this world,they would most likely be as fearsome & callous as Leviathan.

The things I'm learning reading this thread...I noticed the corpses hanging in the throne room, but had no idea who they were. Seemed like the bros didn't either. No one seemed to react strongly. What a mess.

That massive rewrite of the story a poster here made one or two pages back is amazing. I need to find and quote that. This story could have been so much more.

This is why I personally thought that in that painting depicting astrals, a human Leviathan is in the arms of Ifrit, not Bahamut. Consensus seems to think it's Bahamut, but the fact that the "good" astrals are on the opposing side (Shiva, Ramuh, and Titan), I think my theory holds up. Plus Bahamut seems more mysterious and unknown compared to Ifrit, especially if Bahamut resides in the Crystal.

Whether you like it or not, fidelio, you just became one of my best GAF friends. :P I grew up on that show and I'd watch it (and other space opera) in between sessions of Final Fantasy. Yesss.

I'm so glad to see how many roles Claudia has had in stuff I've enjoyed since Farscape. Vala Mal Doran, Morrigan, Chloe, Admiral Xen, Leviathan. So good.

But that means Ifirit and Shiva gave Ardyn power which wouldnt make sense.

How about take one of the many guns off the weapons racks in the base?
 
I don't know if it was talked about in this thread, but that Naga being Prompto's mother theory on reddit is pretty interesting. It makes sense all things considered.

Who they are is very clear.

Its from left to right: Aldercept, Regis, Luna, Nyx.
With the 2 most important to noct, Regis and Luna in front.
 
I find the whole ardyn hanging corpses thing very ineffective

FFXIII did it wayyyyy better

Barhandelus literally hangs serah and dajh's crystal forms in the air and smashes them before the final showdown at the end. Of course it's an illusion but it was pulled off better than ardyn'a corpses hanging and got a better reaction out of the cast. No character seemed to care about em in XV...it was a 'jared WHO' moment except the characters in the game did it.

But with the lack of screentime the characters had with those people I mean can you blame em for not knowing who they were?

FFXIII at least made you feel snow loved serah and sazh loved his son Dajh. XV ultimately failed to do anything of that nature.

XIII did everything better,except for level design & linearity

Nyx didn't have any screen time until this scene. He means nothing to the players who didn't watch the movie.

The dungeon level design in XV was very good.
 
I'm not really at a point where I'm going to say XIII did anything better apart from its cutscene direction and ratio therein. Everything else, XV wins for me, I think. I guess characterization across its cast is in XIII's book, too, but I didn't especially care for anyone in that game (although I admit three of the main six were kind of cool, just in the wrong universe).

Ardyn is also a better villian then any of the the trash in 13. At least his motives make sense
 
XIII didn't grasp my attention unlike XV.

Not to mention I'd definitely replay XV and not XIII (even if I wanted to, I'd just stop in the middle).

XIII is more complete but as a whole package, it's average. XV has messy parts but it delivers as a package.

XIII is a good JRPG but not good enough to be a high quality FF.

Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of XIII's villains. Worst in the series, IMO. Even the NES titles, like... at least those villains were very shortly focused-upon due to the relative lack ofof storytelling efforts. They were bad. We killed them. Heck, Garland had a genuinely comprehensible time loop going on, even.

Barthandalus, such a letdown.

Yes,exactly.

Is FFXV messy? Yes.

But the sum of its parts is so much better than the XIII trilogy it's not even funny. Unlike XIII, this game is a step in the right direction. They just need to polish their narrative.
 
XV is a game I enjoy more playing and experiencing than talking about lets put it that way.

A lot of it is actually so excellent that when I play it many of the flaws melt away in the moment to moment experience but when I sit and write about the game it sounds worse than it is.

For XIII it's the opposite for me. I love it and when I write about it I can see that come across, probably because the setting, cinematic direction(im a mgs4 fan too tehehe), themes and characters resonate with me so much. But playing it again feels like an impossible slog now and I don't dare touch the sequels. I will replay it when they rerelease it for ps4 though.
 
On the topic of "Did the crew die?"

In the campfire scene where Noctis says "What can I say... You guys are the best" if you look at his right hand he is not wearing the ring. This to me means it took place after the last battle. You can see it on his character model when he's in the world of ruin... So if that scene took place before the end then he should be seen wearing it.

I find it hard to believe the bros would die so easily to sone demons, but the dialogue from Noctis signified that he was sorry they died as well, or that he never meant for them to be there with him. He accepted his death, and was touched when they gave theirs as well for the cause. Maybe I need to rewatch the ending again.

The way they showed the empty camp right after in the living world kind of suggests they were talking in the afterworld?

Just my interpretation. I see the argument for both sides.
 
XIII has far bigger story problems than XV does, and I actually quite like the game on the whole.

The whole pantheon of XIII would be confusing enough if it wasn't further obscured by the obtuse and unappealing jargon, not to mention the way so much of it is buried in dull, dry datalogs.

XV's lumpyness in places at least keeps the story moving, whereas XIII's leaden pace sucks all the life out of its plot and characters, paricularly in its first-half.

XIII-2 actually does a lot better despite its time-travelling convolutions for the simple reason that its antagonists have clear and relatable motivations, a trait XV shares and heavily invests in to its benefit.

Someone mentioned that Noctis puts the ring on when you get to Insomnia but I haven't rewatched the scene.

I remember because I though during it "OH, so that scene where he thanks his dad in that trailer was re-purposed into this scene, huh?"

I also think XIII has the stronger OST. The game does have its strengths, even if I enjoyed XV more overall.
 
Do they ever explain what the meteor is? Other than a stage for Titan it seems to just have been... there? I thought for sure it would be the reason for the starscourge or something Jenova style lmao

Ha, all good, you always have fantastic taste! :) In retrospect, I think one of the reasons I fell in love with Mass Effect so quickly was because it felt like a playable Farscape. Claudia Black is always amazing, too, I can't wait for the Uncharted 4 DLC. WoFF also had a bit more Mass Effect in it - they also used Jennifer Hale for a character, and Mordin's replacement VA for Cid, so A+, Square, keep up those quality casting choices! (Cid sounding like Mordin was something I never knew I wanted!)

XV definitely has a tangible humanity to me in way that XIII didn't. XIII's sequels made it even worse, because the higher the stakes got, the more emotionally detached I felt as a player. LR bizarrely felt the most detaching - 'the world is ending, and there's only a couple of hundred people left? Eh.' Chrono Trigger managed to deal with extremely high stakes whilst still keeping an emotional grounding element, but I feel like the XIII trilogy really struggled with that.

Personally I enjoyed FFXV's OST a lot more. I honestly can't think of melodies on FFXIII that can match stuff like Wunderlust, Hydrean's Wrath, Apocalypsis Noctis, Noctis' Theme, Dawn, Valse Di Fantastica, Song of the Stars, the battle theme of the Cleigne region, etc.

It's all subjective of course. I really enjoyed XIII despite its flaws, but I honestly can just remember three or four tracks clearly.

Speaking of the OST.

You guys remember that amazingly charming "Starlit Waltz" tune from the Platinum Demo?

Is that even in the final game? Kind of sad if it was removed. One of the best music tracks I've heard in a video game for a while.

Agreed completely. Especially the bolded.

From XIII's end, the tunes I remember and like the most are Saber's Edge and Eidolons.

I was never a fan of Blinded by Light, to be honest. It's a cool melody, but it gets repetitive fast.

The Leviathan boss fight/set piece was far more disappointing to me. It had literally no weight or consequence to it. I literally just held circle after the armiger swords appeared. It might as well have been a QTE...That or a cutscene. At least the fight with Ifrit was a good more traditional boss fight. I actually had more fun with that fight than the one with Ardyn.
 
I would go for XIII's OST too over XV.

Tracks of XIII like dust to dust, separate paths, memories of happier days, atonement, eidolons on parade is the kind of melancholic melodic emotional music I want from FF games that XV lacked. Then ofc you have saber's edge which for me is a GOAT boss theme. Arcylttte steppe is such a better exploration theme too. In fact I find melodically XV's one is rather lacking in comparison to XIII.

But I mean XV'/ OST is brilliant it'/ just implemented sooooooooo poorly. I loved wanderlust but it NEVER plays for me literally!!!!!!

Give it another honest chance.

I felt the same until a year ago then grew to love it too. Still the weakest in the series but some of the tracks are actually genius and just sooo beautiful! Neighborhood of water and symphonic poem hope *swoons*

I don't really listen to Hamauzu for his melodic strengths. I go to Uematsu if I want a good tune. Hamauzu excels more in tone color and I love his use of extended harmonies. XIII's music just has more depth. But it does ultimately come down to taste, as always.

It's one of the more thematic FF OSTs, honestly. I think that makes it the exact opposite of unmemorable. I love listening to it to see if I can pick out one of the recurring themes. Sakimoto often hides them very cleverly.
 
XII has a great OST and they chose some of the best tracks for XV's music player. Can't wait for the redone OST for the Zodiac Age release.
