okay, perfect. so how exaggerated is the VA vs IPS difference? am i really going to care?If you're looking at it straight on, the HDMI ports are on the left side.

Also is there an easier way to play videos off a hardrive? Coming from a LG, the external popped up in my input list and was simply folder navigation. For the Sony it seems i have to open the videos via the Video App? Not a fan as it doesn't show folder view, nor are the files in order.
Try a different hdmi cable.Has anyone experienced flickering with the PRO? I have a Sony X930D 4K HDR TV hooked up with the PRO and the screen would blink once in a while when I am playing a game (HDR and non HDR). All settings are set to Automatic on the PRO.
My PC and PRO are connect to the TV (hdmi2 and hdmi3), TV as an extended screen for the PC. I think it causes the flickering problem that I've mentioned above. And when I play a HDR game on the PRO the color looks really washed out in HDR. The TV should detect HDR and switch to HDR Video mode from Game mode automatically, but it doesn't.. It just stays in Game mode.
Anyone?
From what I understand, the KS8000 is more expensive, but has a brighter HDR picture. I went with the 55 inch X800 at like 600€ less than the KS8000 and I'm perfectly fine, but some other folks said that after seeing the KS8000 HDR they regretted their X800 purchase. So I'm on the verge of getting this tv.
I'm just conflicted. There was another tv on here loved by gaf. The Samsung ks8000 I think?
How is that tv compared to this one?
My main issue is input latency on the PS4 PRO. I don't play fighting games or driving games, but I also don't want to feel like I'm playing Killzone 2 all the time. I'm purely getting this tv for the PS4 pro and games.

Both are good tvs. This Sony one covers the 40-49 inch range and the samsungs cover 50+. That Samsung is the better TV overall and one of the best 4k tvs on the market, and has better HDR than this Sony set, but it carries a higher price tag as well. Still a great value though.
Input lag won't be an issue on either set. It's very low on both.
I have the 43" Sony because I can't do much larger at my place and in Canada the Samsung is over twice the price, and I'm quite happy with the Sony. It mostly depends on what size you're looking for.
Yeah, I'm in Canada too. The ks8000 price seems insane. The x800 seems reasonable.
Im looking at the 43 inch. I have a small room, so like you, I can't really go much higher.
Im just really excited to play ps4 games in 4k and hdr.
So I think there may be a bug with how this TV does HDR content under "game" picture mode.
Under game mode, my brightness (which is the backlight setting) is at 25, the midpoint. I've been playing FFXV with HDR enabled.
Yesterday, I decided to see how the TV's lag was under a custom/standard picture pre-set. brightness (backlight) was set to 25. But this time around, when I started FFXV (with HDR enabled) the TV automatically bumped up backlight/brightness to max. And the HDR was glorious. And then, when I exited FFXV, the TV automatically went back to my original settings. (brigthness at 25)
This automation doesn't seem to happen under game mode. I also think the Samsung KS8000 has this issue as well, where the auto adjustment of settings for HDR enabled content doesn't happen under game mode.
I think that's why some people are noticing that certain games with HDR on, look washed out and subdued. Because the TV is supposed to be maxing out brightness (backlight) automatically on HDR enabled content. BTW* My contrast is set at 90, every place I checked as contrast at least 85 or higher. I don't think this value changes, but you should have your contrast on at least 80 or higher regardless.
So, yeah. Try it out. Put your TV on standard picture mode, or movie, or custom, or whatever. Take a note of your picture settings, and then boot up a game with HDR enabled. You'll notice the brightness (backlight) go to max.
So it seems, the moral of this story is that this TV wants it's brightness/backlight to be maxed in order to do HDR proper. And it wasn't doing that on game mode. You have to do it MANUALLY on game mode. Turn up brightness to max with HDR content, and then manually change it back to a lower, suitable setting with non-HDR content.
BTW, HDR is fucking glorious. If this is me for the firs time seeing it properly in FFXV, holy shit.
i really want to buy a hdr tv and sony's cheaper 40 inch tvs are the only ones i can afford without getting a divorce.
But there is no way i am paying more than $500 for a 40 inch tv. any good deals going around lately? it seems like the sub 50 inch models never go on sale. and if im spending $700 for 40 inch, might as well pay $1,200 for the 55 inch ks8000.
So I think there may be a bug with how this TV does HDR content under "game" picture mode. It's not a big deal, it seems under game mode you have to manually adjust the brightness (backlight) setting going in and out of HDR content. Whereas on other picture modes it does it automatically.

It automatically maxes out brightness in game mode for me.
I usually have to adjust the contrast manually just to get a good picture, though.

Fucking weird dude. For the longest time the brightness value stayed at 25. Only when I reset the picture to something else does it now register.
Maybe now that it 'works', I bet if I go back to game mode it should properly adjust brightness to max automatically, and then automatically scale it back down when non-HDR content is played.
Please Read. Because I'm managing this thread as the OP. I need to confirm this. Your response and participation is greatly appreciated.
Please tell me)
A) What your picture mode is (i.e, sport, game, movie, custom etc.) and what your brightness / contrast setting is before you play a HDR enabled game.
B) Then when you play an HDR enabled game, I want you to then check what your picture settings are and what has changed. Particularly focus on Brightness/Backlight and Contrast.
C) And finally, when you exit out of said HDR enabled game, does your picture settings reset to what they originally were before you played said HDR enabled game.
And then tell me what you get.
Maybe I just had an isolated issue. But for the sake of being thorough I need more data. Thank you!!
A) For regular sdr content I have it at 35 brightness and max contrast, on game mode.
B) When I play an HDR game it maxes out the brightness automatically when it detects the hdr signal. Everything else stays the same. I usually have to dial back the contrast a bit to make the picture look good.
C) When I exit HDR the brightness goes back to 35 automatically. The contrast remains at whatever I changed it to while in hdr and I have to put it back to max manually.
Trying to set up the 43" ver of the x800d and I'm getting audio pops and screen flickering. Does this indicate bad hdmi cables? I've tried several different cables and still the same issues. Some cables only show snow as well when I plug in the ps pro.
Do I need new cables? Do I need 4k specific cables?
edit: guess it was the cables not being compliant. Took the ps4 out of enhanced 4k mode and and the audio no longer pops.
Can't seem to decide between getting this TV or the KS8000; which one would be more future proof? I know HDR is nascent and likely both these tvs will become outdated very soon. Should I stick with the cheaper x800d and look to upgrade in 3 years? How much of a picture quality different did there between the two? I know the Samsung is UHD premium

The X800D can interpolate 30 fps games with minimal lag. It makes all PS4 Pro games run smoother.
On the other hand, all Samsung models can't do interpolation. Unless you want to play games with 100ms lag.

Okay. Interesting. It's at odds to what the poster above you experienced.

As for the wash out look on HDR, is your brightness automatically maxed out for HDR enabled games?
Read the post I made a few post above. See if that applies to you.
Apologies if this is a stupid question. I haven't owned a TV for nearly 8 years, and before that I had 16" CRT TV. I'm trying to educate myself on the latest tech before I decide what to buy. What I don't understand is how this TV can be considered a good gaming TV when the panel refresh rate is only 50Hz. How would this look with 60 FPS games? Wouldn't that cause tearing? My 7 years old PC monitor has 60Hz. Am I missing something?
The X800D accepts a 120Hz signal, but has a 60Hz panel so it can only display half of the frames. It supports chroma 4:4:4 at up to 4k @ 60Hz. To display 4:4:4, set the scene to 'Graphics' or 'Game'. This results in an input lag of 33.3ms. It accepts a 4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 signal only HDMI 2 and 3, and requires 'Enhanced HDMI' to be enabled in the input settings.
But this tv has a 60hz panel. At least the X800D 49"
I play all games at 60fps with no issues on the tv. I mean, it kinda sucks that it caps it at 60, but as long as its 60 it doesn't bother me.

I'm confused. Did I mess up the european model name? This link https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/xd8005-series says:
MOTION ENHANCER (NATIVE HZ)
Motionflow™ XR 400Hz(native50Hz)
Have you tried the cable that comes with the Pro? It sounds like you might be using older spec HDMI cables that aren't capable of doing 18Gbps.
Here's one I know works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014I8TC4E/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Thanks. I ordered some 4k compliant(?) cables. Will see how they work out but i've also put the cables you suggested in my cart. Thanks again!

Someone from the UK with the TV can shed some light on this tho. But this is the X800D that i own, and that is the one that most people discuss here for gaming. Not sure what is the translated code for the TV in EU.
The EUROPEAN labeling of this TV is : EU XD80xx (the xx value changes depending on tv color, remote type etc., non-important things)
european tvs always say 50Hz, you are fine
No you're good. The panel is still 60hz and plays games at 60fps.
I'm not sure why EU TVs always say 50hz, I think it's about the PAL broadcasting standard or sth.
