Why did Vader look fat or bloated or something? He looked horrible.
*whew* you just opened the door and now i can walk through it
because i agree

I love rogue one, but even I will admit it's not one for the kids. #notthestarwarsyouknow
My bud took his 10 and 7 rear olds, and they loved it. Kind of hard to wrap my head around, given that everyone dies.
Greatness Tier:
The Empire Strikes Back
That's Damn Good Stuff, Sir Tier:
Star Wars

Attack of the Clones
How did Zahn deviate from the norm? I'm not being facetious, I only read 20 pages or so (and I hated it). While we're drawing loose parallels here:
I feel like this spinoff being as successful at what it was trying to do makes it sorta/kinda like the film equivalent of Heir to the Empire shaking up people's ideas of what Star Wars could be back in 1991. Or maybe Dark Empire, if you prefer that EU touchstone.
But one of the first things I thought after leaving the theater last Monday was that this movie feels like the best possible adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics run, without actually being based on a Dark Horse Comic.
"Oh, you really can do that with Star Wars" is a sentiment going around that reminds me a lot of the aftermath to Zahn's landing on the bestseller lists back then.

It's already too lateMy daughters are 9 and 7.
They liked it. There are some tense parts, obviously. They liked K2SO, "The Blind Guy", and seeing Leia.
My 7 year old said she liked seeing Vader at the end. So, I'll keep an eye on her growing up, I guess. Not going to take any shit, that one.
5>4>6>RO=7>3>1>2
2 will always probably be the worst.
There's an edit somewhere with all 3 prequels cut down to a solid 2hr-ish film.
Episode 2's romance scenes though. I despise them. And Anakin's acting. It's a tough battle, but I still hate episode 1 more because every non-star wars fan loves it . "Bad?! what about that pod race!"
....that fucking pod race
Kids are monsters. That explains it.

Seriously
This scenario looked way more dire and enthralling.
But you're okay with:Episode 2's romance scenes though. I despise them. And Anakin's acting.

Way way waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Ep 7.
Congrats to Gary Whitta for whatever contribution he had.

I mean...yeah.

Also:

I'm not okay with them, lol. To be fair it aged better than Episode 2 and is a bit more entertaining to watch despite having a lot of flaws. Episode 2's 1st hour and a half is tough to get through and is often boring, though it has it's moments here and there. Plus some things felt rushed towards the end.But you're okay with:
Pod racing
All the acting in TPM
Darth Maul isn't a character
Pod racing
Kid Anakin
Introduction of Jar Jar
Stupid droid invasion
Literally everything in this movie outside of that one fight.

Donnie Yen's delivery of Iamonewithforceisonetheforceiswithme, repeated over and over again was really bad. Why did the director allow that?
Still believe ANH is greatness tier, just in a different way than ESB. They were both greatness for what they were trying to achieve.Greatness Tier:

I can see the parallel with Dark Horse and Dark Empire. Maybe because it always felt slightly adjacent to the OT yet also kind of off.
I don't see it with Zahn's work. I think Heir was such a major hit because it picked up the baton seamlessly and really just felt like Episode 7.
EDIT- just saw the reply above. I guess I can kind of see that. It has parallels to first half of Rogue One which was also talky/political. I could kind of feel my wife and kids checking out from the movie at that point and they all ate up TFA.
Like, at the very least AOTC adds to the world, advances Anakins change and story and does somethingI'm not okay with them, lol. Someone will have to explain one day why dark empire is so appreciated. It's probably one of the worst things I have ever read.Yeah, I understand (and agree with) some of the criticisms of Zahn's Trilogy, but it's hard to argue against both it and Dark Empire effectively launching the EU. Kinda opened up the storytelling possibilities. Not that those possibilities were realized very often, or effectively in the decades that followed. But they definitely changed people's thinking a bit, and laid the very necessary groundwork.
No they didn't, not enough so that it would have made a difference here. It would have looked exactly the same or worst.
She looks enough like the same person. Luke, Han, Leia, they all look a bit different by RotJ's time anyway.

They would have been hard pressed to find someone who looks like Cushing.

Krennec makes it hard to call this one a "war movie". Top-level officers fucking climbing towers and getting into firefights isn't what war movies do. Dude was too personally involved. That one quick cut to Tarkin on the bridge right before the Death Star blows up in ANH is a way better end than Krennec had. Icons of the Empire gotta get killed by hubris, not because their reflexes are bad.
I liked Krennec's actor a lot, but I would have preferred to have him and Tarkin's character merged and just have Tarkin even with the spotty CGI.Krennec makes it hard to call this one a "war movie".
