One thing annoyed me in this.

It shared the same time compression as the Force Awakens. With Vader and the Rebel fleet being able to travel almost instantaneously as the plot required it. Originally it took time to travel in the Star Wars universe even with hyperspace.

You mean the snowspeeder? Before Disney erased the EU, Luke was the founder of 'Rogue Squadron', the best pilots in the Rebellion. I guess the whole Rogue call sign has been recontextualized now in a pretty cool way.

I loved that to be honest

Really, this movie is a love letter to OT star wars fans

Yes I just came back from a second viewing and I definitely heard the same thing.

It sounds like Sebulba but it's something else, I think it's actually a character reference from Rebels though I'm not completely sure. I think I just read about it like a day or two ago.

Yeah they are referencing general Syndulla. A character from Star Wars Rebels. LucasFilm confirmed it.
EDIT
EW said:
Hera Syndulla is the green-skinned alien Twi’lek who pilots the Ghost starship, and although she doesn’t appear on screen in Rogue One, a “General Syndulla” is summoned to the briefing room over the intercom at the Yavin 4 base. Filoni credits sound designer Matt Wood, who also voices the character General Grievous, for that reference. We don’t see Hera, but we know she’s there. Although some fans are debating about that. We have the answer...

This is definitely something that stood out to me a lot more after my second time seeing it. The rogue one crew, the rebel bombers and Krennic's ship all converge on Eadu within minutes of each other. Of course the same is true of the ending when the rebel fleet gets to Scarrif very quickly

It was... an okay effort. Didn't love it, didn't hate it.

I'm surprised I wasn't as peeved with the Uncanny Valley effect in this movie besides Leia looking like a Gerber Baby. They did some good shadowing and quick cuts so it never lingers for so long.

I can't believe I have to nitpick a movie about having TOO MUCH action, but it did get in the way of not having enough character development for the ragtag group. So when their dying moments did come, nothing really resonated. Except maybe the robot.

I said earlier in the thread that I'm glad there was no Wilhelm scream, shit is played out and I'm tired of hearing it.

Just got back from the movie.

Fucking yo, that Vader scene at the end was something I've wanted since I was a kid.

I liked that Vader's movements were about as minimal as possible to complete his objective, as though the rebels weren't even worth the energy expenditure.

I always hated the baton waving sword fights of the prequel trilogy.

I really have no complaints about the film. And I could complain about every aspect of the prequels. It had the best cinematography of all eight films, far exceeding the OT while perfectly fitting in as a prequel. Amazing.

But I do wonder if some of the original ending with Jyn and Cassian fighting on the beach would have been better.

Probably not since they felt the need to change it.

Link to original ending?

I went in totally blind and watched this the other. I really, really enjoyed it.

The only thing that bothered me was just how weak the Storm Troopers continued to be. I can understand being idiots and dying to blaster fire, but being knocked out by punches and kicks and hits from sticks? I don't know, I felt like it was a bit much, but I bet there are dumber things in the other movies that I just forgot about.

I think I actually enjoyed this more than The Force Awakens.

Either way, two for two in my books when it comes to the new generation of Star Wars.

Don't have a link to info on it but included shots like this.

That storm trooper shot isn't a shot from the movie, it's a behind the scenes shot of filming from a BTS promo. There's crew and boats in the background for goodness sake.

It's probably from when they were filming this scene, which is in the movie:

This isn't really meant as a disagreement, but action and character development do not neccessarily oppose each other. Matrix is a good example of that. The Matrix sequels, sans one or two points, showed how you do it wrong.

I really didn't like how they sounded and sure didn't enjoy their scenes in the film. They were about as menacing as the droids in the PT.

I lost track of how many times they were snuck up on in broad daylight.

Holy shiet poor robot guy, poor rogue one suicidal team, poor planets slow death

The rebel army coming out light speed was so amazing!!!!! I guess that explain why the rebel didnt wanted to gather the army on Episode 4 and 5 since they got destroyed badly in rogue one

Did the monk guy turned into a jedi for a moment where the bullets didnt hit him, I got the idea the force was helping him in that moment.

is also funny in the LATAM voice the mexican guy is voicing his own voice

I think, having read up on what the changes to this film likely were, that the biggest thing that could have strengthened R1 would have been keeping the original characterization and backstory of Jyn. I really like the character, but her transformation from not giving a fuck, to speech giving beacon of hope felt rushed and kind of out of place. I remember reading an interview with jones where she talked about her character absolutely despising the Empire, and being a lot closer to a Saw Guerrera type than what she ended up being in the end. I think we could have lost the mind reading tentacle monster and a couple minutes of cameos to flesh out her backstory a little more, show us why she was in jail at least.

Saw this today... much better than Ep 7, but still disappointed by folks in turbans blowing up armed convoys and a complete waste of having Forest Whitaker on set.

And was it just me, or did EVERY main character die in an explosion? Like, it was all explosions.

Both K2SO and Chirrut were shot by lasers.

Nah I think K2SO died when he smashed the console (at least it looked like it) and Chirrut (Donnie right?) died when someone shot that master switch thing and it blew up

K2SO at least died in an explosion still though when he smashed down on the computer or whatever it was.
Both involved shooting(I mean K2SO got lid up by Stormtroopers), but eh, you're still right, lol.

I thought it was a enjoyable movie with a few small flaws.

Forest Whitakers character should have died a better death instead of just saying fuck it and dying for the hell of it. Anything would have been better. If not in the finale then maybe he could have sacrificed himself holding off stormtroopers at any of the other fights in the movie. ANYTHING would have been better.

The ending was maybe went a little too far in linking it with the start of Episode IV. Maybe princess leias ship shouldn't have been at the final battle but instead a ship escapes the battle and meets up with that ship?

Cool that everyone dies though. Leaves no lose ends. I was sitting behind 2 kids and they where a little shook.

Vaders volcano castle is so goofy.

Chinese Force Monk guy was cool. And I guess it also fleshes out the Force mythos a little which should help them in the newer episodes where they dont have Jedis and stuff.

Forest Whitaker was credited as Plot Device in this film, he was the guy who moved the main chick from the intro to the first act and then pointlessly sacrifices himself to move her from the first act to second. He shows up, did that completely pointless crap with the cthulu wannabe thing to that poor pilot guy for completely unexplained (or unexplainable?) reasons and then died because... well... who knows

Also, "leaves no loose ends" is generally a requirement when making an inter-quel with no major characters from other films... would have been kinda dumb if these guys all lived as heroes when they weren't even mentioned in passing in the original trilogy

After seeing the movie a couple of times I think a handful of extra scenes would've done a lot to improve it. Just more dialogue, a few more character moments. I would have no problem calling this the third best Star Wars film if it was, like, ten minutes longer.

Forest Whitaker was slow as fuck. Didn't you see that dude move? Those guys needed to haul ass back to their ship. Forest didn't die for nothing. He made a sacrifice so Jyn could possibly get out safely. He wasn't bout that jog lyfe.

Dude had a respirator and shit...
