Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Woke up and saw some isthereanydeals emails with doom 75% off at gamersgate, but it's 70% off when I go there, so I guess it was either a mistake or timed. Still a nice deal but I wish I saw the email when it was relevant.

Gave a try to Inferno Climber yesterday and my framerate was shit. I have no idea how such a game couldn't keep 60fps on a 1070 but I was having constant 20/40fps. I do wonder what was wrong with it.
Tried Exanima too. After 4 deaths trying to swing my sword against an enemy, unsuccessfully, I closed it.

One minute into ABZU: So what, you look at fish or some shit?

Yooooooooo this Pony island moment holy shit.

Pony Island is quite a trip.

You're right, damn I was thinking about picking it up at the end of the sale.O_o So devs can change the sale when they want now?

Did I miss something, but when did they remove the time counter on games so one knows how long it's on sale for?

Probably it was a price error that took too long to correct.

Has anyone played Dying Lights The Following? I thought the base game was amazing and really enjoyed it. Does this DLC live up to the original game?

I was looking at this, you've just sold me.

It seems to split people though I personally loved it. It's very much designed with the buggy in mind - large open spaces, upgrades are buggy related etc. Different but still Dying Light. I really enjoyed it overall.

Never Gamersgate again.

Your order has been selected for manual review.

This is an additional step of protection that allows us to provide the safest services to both the players and the publishers of the games.

Manual reviews are a rare exception for purchases in our shop.

I'm gonna guess they won't come back until Monday.

Picked up MGS:V Phantom for $10.80 at Game Billet, which is a fantastic deal. I was waiting for it to be around $15 and price was $60 on Steam for pretty much its first year.

I picked up a few Vita games (Grand Kingdom, Stranger of Sword City, Everybody's Golf and Muramasa: Rebirth), plus I haven't started Steins;Gate 0 so that will pretty do me this sale.

Not a bad Steam sale then - most things on my wish list were at their lowest price ever whereas last year some stuff weren't.

Never Gamersgate again.

Yeah I kind of got burned on them a few years back on their Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris price misstake, it wasn't even that huge of a misstake, which they went back to a few weeks later but they still revoked the game when I was in the middle of the game.

Is Batman: A Telltale Series worth it?

I'm a big Batman fan and haven't played a Telltale game since TWAU.

1st episode is meh. 2nd and 3rd are great. 4th and 5th are ok. Also all 5 episodes are very short, and there is almost no gameplay.
Overall it's good, but i would wait for 50%.

I've heard good things about VA-11 Hall A and I am in that sci-fi neon mood, which is why I bought Technobabylon. But is VA-11 Hall A just a bar mixing simulator, ala those games where you have to run a store or a restaurant? Doesn't seem to have much else going on besides mixing cocktails and a story.

I'm also considering Crashlands, how is that one?

[edit] Eh, said fuck it, and bought the Disney Mega Pack bundle.

I don't get it. When I try use the coupon for Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Edition, it says I already own one ore more items in my basket, but I only have the normal edition in my library.

The problem with dying light is the game starts of pretty hard and night time u just wanna get fuck back to safety. But once u get few perks etc everything becomes far to easy. Night time isnt scary or as challenging
Killing zombies becomes boring u realise u waste far too much for what u get etc n they just become a hinderance

A couple of questions:
  • How is God Eater's gameplay? Is it similar to the Monster Hunter games? I would love to have something like MH on PC, crafting and all.
  • Anyone tried House of Dying Sun? How are the battles? Are they deep and "simulator"-like or it plays more like an arcade?

Anybody care to answer this as I wonder myself. I believe GE is a tad easier and has a story. Any other person care to explain more?

This is the first time I'm looking into a Steam Sale,so maybe a dumb question, does the selection change until 2 january?
Or is everything offered at once?

Just bought

Salt and Sanctuary
Slain
Abzu
Pony Island
Batman Telltale
Hyperlight Drifter
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VIII
Virginia
Momodora Reverie Under The Moonlight

All in all $81. I had D4 in there as well but took it out. Can someone recommend that game? What's it like?

As is stated in the first post, there won't be any extra deals added. What you see is what you get.

Yeah, what i have played so far seems fine. It just feel like a Telltale game. But I guess I mean is the overall story worth it in the end? I def don't play their games for the gameplay.

Sure. Can't really comment on that because I haven't played the game. Really interested to try it as a huge Batman fanboy though. Not sure if I want to meet a person who plays tt games for their gameplay :P

Is there any good fishing game? I love fishing mini games so maybe I should try a pure fishing game.

Don't know about the quality but Euro Fishing is a thing.

I've played about 10 minutes so far of GE and it seems like a mixture of bloodborne and monster hunter. But much easier than both of those, granted I am still in the beginning. Fun game though so far and yes definitely anime oriented.

I havent found it as hard as MH or a Souls game but the difficulty does pick up around Difficulty level 5. For me anyway.

It really took a while to click but I really enjoy the game now.

Clicked immediately for me, really fun system. I'd like to keep playing but I have to go to bed eventually so better now than at 6am :p

GE is much faster and imo less rewarding and punishing than MH. Crafting system also doesn't have a comparable variety of items but it works in similar fashion. Next to Toukiden (which is shoddy PC port locked at 1080p30) it's probably the closest non-MMO, english language game you can get on PC.
It's still very fun though if you're into the genre.

What are some of the best Steam games? For someone that's getting back into PC gaming, are there games other than the big AAA titles like Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Civ VI that one should purchase? Their store can seem a big overwhelming.
