Misplaced cyicism is some of the most exhausting stuff to read on the internet. Even some of the best creators have troubles, missteps, and make dissapointing movies.

great movie

gritty star wars has me conflicted

i think Donnie Yen's fight scene was one of the best in the series.

Holy shit i can't believe everybody is fucking dead. Makes sense though

LOL Hope

I don't think "hope" was said as much as I think it did (way too much), but I hope someone puts up a video that counts the amount of times it's been said. lol

I'm sure Swol saw it. But I think he knew the narractive he wanted to walk out of the theater with and made sure it fit no matter what.

Trying to say that 3PO and K2 are the same or Cassien is like Solo is just desperate grasping at straws. But if you wanted that narrative I guess I could convince myself of it.

He also doesn't seem to know that every hero ever is an orphan.

The biggest stretch is that they are following some template. Yes, the Death Star is in the movie. But this is not like any SW movie that we have ever seen before, and the critics owe it that much at least.

Did you forget the scene in ANH where Han Solo goes off about his PTSD and all the shit he's had to do fighting the empire.

And who could forget the classic scene of Obi-Wan torturing R2-D2 with a tentacle monster.

Just saw it at the cinema.

Everyone agreed first half was poor and pretty slow, second half was great.

My favourite moment personally was the Vader corridor scene, that was awesome.

Nice

I saw it yesterday with some friends. One of my friends fell asleep that but that was mostly him coming from work. Everyone else liked it but didn't get as much of fanservice I got from it. I could clearly tell Tarkin was CG but I didn't think it was distracting.

I was just surprised Jyn's Kyber crystal didn't end up being the one in Luke's Green lightsaber.

Why did you think it would be?

I keep waiting for them to really bite into the legacy artifacts and crystals for lore, but they keep dancing around it. Maybe we'll get more of that later.

Jesus Christ the locales were gorgeous in this movie. I wish I could live on the Island planet at the end.

What I liked about this movie was how the technology and screens had the original feel to it. Something Lucas failed at in the prequel trilogy.

I understand that they kind of had to have the Grand Moff, so fine. It looks artificial but I get it.

Why oh why did they show the princess' face though? It ruins the peak emotional moment of the movie. All they had to do was not show her face and it would be perfect.

As a somewhat casual fan of the series I enjoyed the movie , but can see some of its flaws.

A couple of questions for the more hardcore star wars fans.

Is Vader hanging out /did he put his home base on the same planet where he got pushed into the lava ?

Is there a reason At - Ats going down so quickly in this movie? I thought the point of goths tow cables were meant just for the Walkers.

The blind guy was not a Hedi but just a follower of the force right ? I got some of the smaller references I think but those were the questions I could think of after watching 1 time.

Also that Darth Vader cameo at the end ..... awesome, you get to see how bad ass he can be.

1. Yeah. Mustafar 2. They are AT - ACT actually, cargo walkers. 3) Yup, hes not an Jedi.

Yeah, Vader's castle is on Mustafar. The AT-ATs are actually AT-ACTs. They're smaler and are primarily used to transport cargo. Chirrut's not a Jedi, but he's force sensitive.

Oops, didn't see Lifejumper had already answered your questions.

That wasn't a failure, it was a artistic decision since the PT takes place in a fancier, "more civlized" time.

You've gotten the answer, but I'll also add that the Rebels only had Snowspeeders available to fight the AT-ATs on Hoth, which are weaker than their other fighters, which were helping in the evacuation of the planet, so it makes sense that stronger fighters against a weaker walker varient will result in them falling pretty quickly.

You really believe Lucas' intention with the PT aesthetics was to capture the feeling of the OT?

You can dislike the PT all you want for acting, story and whatever, but the more pristine, 'civilized' and futuristic aesthetics of the prequels were completely intentional. They were supposed to look very different.

I just saw this last night. I really loved it, and my immediate reaction is that I liked it a lot more than TFA (which I enjoyed, but was annoyed at how much it retreads ANH). It felt really fresh and distinct from the feel of other star wars movies. K2 was amazing, I actually liked the whole main cast, and the action was fantastic. Loved getting to see some actual guerrilla space rebel fighting.

The whole point of the PT is that the galaxy was in the middle of a golden age. Well that and most of it is set on Coruscant which is basically space New York.

Yeah. The prequels had terrible writing, acting, and a ton of issues, but I actually love much of the lore they created, the big ideas/vision and central story beats, and how well it establishes a sense of setting in the galaxy. Much of which I felt was lacking in TFA.

The point of the PT was to show the end of a golden era by that was never reflected on the environments.
By ROTS the Clone Wars have been going on for years and the Trade Federation just besieged Coruscant but the city still looked as clean and pretty as it looked years before the war.
They should have showed the transition from the clean and beautiful aesthetics of the late republic era to the dirty aesthetics of the imperial era.

Definitely should've done more with that in RotS, I agree.

Coruscant doesn't change, despite taking a few attacks during the clone wars and order 66 happened. Following the change from the republic to the empire Coruscant is one of the planets that really didn't change other than becoming more militarized and the descretaion of the Jedi Temple.

Tarkin was noticeable immediately, there's a reason they kept things to medium-or-further cuts with dark lighting. The animation especially is a bit too cartoony to be totally convincing. It's much better than stuff in the past, but it's still not quite there yet.

Thinking about it, I would kill for any sidestory showing RO + OT from Raddus' or Ackbar's pov. I just fucking love the Mon Calamari, man. Seeing the him lead that battle above Scarif felt like Star Trek almost. Reminded me of ROTJ that way!

That damn Disney template where every single character dies. It's getting really tiring!

LOL

Truthfully I was a bit surprised, and I'm left wondering if some of the reshoots were to drop even more visceral parts. This was a pretty dark film, for one done by Disney/Lucas Arts and set in the SW universe.

Anyways, slow first act. Meandering second act. But by god, that third act made it worth it. 40 min of some of the best Star Wars since ESB.

Biggest complaint? The score by Giacchino.

I have to wonder who's dick he must be sucking, because he keeps scoring these blockbusters and keeps failing to hit the potential that the greats before him have. The score was terribly uninspired, repetitive, and once again failed to weave a sonic narrative.

Ya'll remember when that dude straight up executed a Stormtrooper with a blaster right to the dome? Now that's some Disney shit.

Yep the modeling was great but he was animated more fluidly than a normal human actor. He looked like he was pulled straight outta a really high quality all-CG film.

Daredevil S2 had The Punisher blow a guys face off point blank and the camera didn't cut away. People can stop assuming Disney is going to shy away from these things.

Yes! The MVP's of showing the fuck up and getting it done. When all hope is lost, don't count the Mon Calamari out (unfortunate naming aside) cos they will be there with some thinking and damage dealing.
We'll never see them explored on the big screen though.

So I rewatched that last scene and noticed that Vader deflects a bolt into a rebel's chest with his hand. It's cool that they brought that back from ESB

Hey, if there's ever a need for an alien crew member in a future movie, they should definitely do a Mon Cal. Ackbar is still kicking, I'm sure he has a few recommendations.

Raddus is dead dude. His ship is the one Vader tore apart. He isn't going to survive that.
