I think people are finally catching up to Prometheus. In another decade or so its going to be the next Blade Runner.

Looks like Fassbender.

It does. Looks like you're a fan of Michael's as well? Love the guy to bits. I'm even cautiously optimistic about watching him in Assassin's Creed, despite the negative reviews.

Well it looks like the crew is just as incompetent as the crew from Prometheus

True, to be fair though no one warned them, at least not from the looks of it just yet.

However, it would be nice to see more cautious characters in such thrillers haha!

Isn't it crazy that we're getting a new Star Wars, Alien and Blade Runner film in the same freaking year :0??? Plus Trainspotting 2, a new King Kong, a live action Beauty and the Beast, the final Wolverine Jackman film, Ghost in the Shell, Chris Nolan's Dunkirk, Marvel's new Spider Man film, the first Wonder Woman solo film, a new Planet of the Apes film, Stephen King's The Dark Tower (finally!) and Justice League? Crazy year of film coming up folks.
2017 looks amazing for movies!

I'm rolling my eyes pretty hard here. You're talking about a critically acclaimed, award winning SCIENCE FICTION movie, and dismissing it as empty entertainment.

I'm sorry that Ridley having made a well liked, Oscar nominated, award winning movie doesn't fit into your narrative of 'Ridley Scott has lost it', but he did.

Prometheus had some serious script issues, and hopefully this won't. But it was gorgeous, and the performances were solid. If the script is good (and there is reason to hope it IS given that Lindeloff wasn't anywhere near it) there is no reason to think Ridley can't pull it off.
Ridley Scott had nothing to do with the story/script for The Martian. Lindelof only did what Ridley Scott ordered for Prometheus. Scott has terrible story ideas at this point, and he's very much still calling the shots here. All of the interviews he's given in the last two years about his further Alien plans suggests he continues to want to the franchise in a stupid Biblical direction.

Someone on twitter is saying that the below pic is inspired by unused art for Vincent Ward's script for Alien 3.

Reminded me of Luke from ROTJ.

For a moment I tought
the alien tail
was part of the horny guy
then the alien
was facing forwad the girl in a impossible position

Huh, that trailer was kind of terrible. Like I wouldn't be surprised if the movie sucks but I kind of assumed the trailer would be good.

Original Alien definitely has some slasher elements but for me it stands out against similar run-of-the-mill slasher stuff with how restrained and subtle it was. Ridley back then didn't need copious amount of blood and gore to terrified the fuck outta people - the unknown terror that was the Xenomorph did that.

What? The chestburster scene was shocking and incredibly graphic for a mainstream film at the time.

This movie came out after Star Wars, Close Encounters, and Superman featured such bright, optimistic views on sci-fi and extraterrestrial life. Then it killed off its best and most popular actor in a horrifically brutal fashion at the end of the 1st act. It totally relied on blood and gore to terrify people (including the cast).

Not sure if I'd use the word "subtle" to describe a movie where a giant penis monster is committing sexual violence and someone gets mouth raped with a porno mag.

In terms of what? Blade Runner was based off of a widely loved, existential Philip K. Dick novel. Prometheus was an at best average, sci-fi slasher, at worst a travesty in screenplays.

I burst out laughing at the shower kill.

COME ON lol

Yeah the rest of it had me really pumped, but that scene was just stupid. Honestly, the whole red band trailer was just a checklist of shit. Blood? Check. Sex? Check? Cursing? Check.

I'm sure the movie will be fun, and the actual parts of the trailer looked good, but as a trailer, it kinda sucked. Was this the trailer they showed at NYCC or wherever?

Alien is my 2nd favorite film of all time. It's a sexual creature. Always been. What's wrong with the scene? It's 100% inline with the masterful original.

Sexual in a Freudian sort of way, sure, but it never went full on horror movie trope sexual.

Ding ding.

The last movie Scott wrote was Exodus: God's and Kings. There was also the white washing bullshit that he doubled down on. He's a shadow of his former self.

Have you seen the original film? Cause I've seen it over 30 times and in that movie, the Alien kills a woman by ramming it's barbed tail in between her legs. It's an ugly, and vicious mega sexual and fucked up creature.

Read up there.

I thought the trailer was really good and greatly enjoyed it, not truly seeing the reason for the hate it seems to be generating. Like some have been saying, I'm hoping that they do expand on the past of the engineers, why they created humans and subsequently wanted to kill them. Also why would they have a ship prepped for war against primordial man? Idk hopefully this ties into the Predator franchise somehow,at least as to why they had biochemicals to destabilize a population. Seems like a suitable means for the Yautja, not humans.

Looks cheaper than Prometheus.

Like, I kinda felt like I was watching a trailer for a new Riddick sequel, not Alien. I love Riddick, but it felt off.

Maybe it was just the trailer? I'm in either way.

Read up there.

Again, it's all implied, and sort of visceral and symbolic. Two people fucking and getting killed like this is Friday the 13th? Nah.

Reminds me more of prometheus than alien.

Fassbender will be a highlight as usual.
Alien at the end was cool.

That black goo shit returning though, ugh..

Again, it's all implied, and sort of visceral and symbolic. Two people fucking and getting killed like this is Halloween? Nah.

It's always been a creepy sexual creature, from the Facehugger to the full blown thing. And you damn know it killed Lambert by ramming it's tail between her legs. It's shown onscreen.

The original director of the damn thing isn't an idiot. YOU were being prude all along. The Xenomorph is a fucked up biomechanical sexual deviant lifeform and it's being realized on screen yet again. And I have a tattoo of the VHS cover of Halloween on my arm. I know Halloween. Alien was psychosexual. Halloween wasn't, ever.

Alien is one of my absolute favorite films of all time.
This trailer was pretty bad. Looks kind of cheap, as well. I hope for the best, but this doesn't look good.

It's a direct sequel to Prometheus so David and the black goo will be key.

In alien it's scary and weird because it's suggestive, and surreal. Shower scene is just silly.

Maybe the male was killed with the second set of jaws the xenomorphs has and the tail was just a misdirection or a simple reference to the original Alien. I think that explains why the blood was only located on her upper body and face.

And you know that from 5 seconds of trailer footage? Again the original scene in Alien was brutal, but incredibly subtle and artistic. In the trailer we see the girl screaming and bloodied. She probably dies second if she even dies.

Got the franchise wrong, that's my bad. But again, sex wasn't used to sell the creature. The sexual nature and phallic/vaginal design was. All I'm saying. No need to pull the horror movie card on me.

I'm not saying the death in the trailer is implied, I'm talking about the sexual nature of the Aliens in the franchise in general.

Indeed :D One of the most exciting for me in years!

Someone here mentioned Luke as well and i'm inclined to agree!

Indeed, the Alien was sexual in the most horrifying way imaginable from day one. The symbology in the first film makes for a fascinating and equally disturbing read.

He's a great actor. I wonder if he'll steal the show again like he did in Prometheus.

Indeed. I need to catch up to many of his films. Already liking what I saw of him in the trailer, and honestly it's good to have him back again :D

Doesn't look like it expands on the first two in any way. Feels like a remake of the original only more expensive looking and "less boring."
