Judging by these posts, if Alien was released today GAF would hate it
How? I rewatched Alien this year and it's still a masterpiece of sci-fi horror. Prometheus fails at a fundamental level of writing.

I still love sci-fi movies, I still love horror movies. Alien was, is and will always be a good movie.

Wow, that last shot shown just completely turned me off. Really hope this is decent, but from the few bits shown, I'm not feeling too optimistic.

This really puts into perspective how fucking ace Prometheus' trailer was. Say what you will about that film but the trailer for Prometheus was the hypest trailer in years.

Nah, Alien looked unique and felt atmospheric, even in its 79 trailer.

This looks pretty but if I didn't know it was Ridley Scott and Alien, it looks like any other non-descript science-fiction film. This is just lacking punch or something. I can't quite put my finger on it. It almost seems like it has nothing to do with Alien, much like Prometheus.

Don't know about this. Looks like another generic slasher film, hopefully they delve into the lore and history more and the history of the engineers.

I'm kinda chuckling at everyone guffawed at how they could "green lit this if it looks like hot garbage such as Prometheus."

News flash people: regardless of your feelings, Prometheus was received pretty well in the broader audience

Please explain why a well-scripted, well-acted, well-shot adult-oriented sci-fi movie that turns balls-to-the-wall horror in the second half would be hated today.

People are skeptical of this trailer for the simple reason that Prometheus had great trailers but ended up being a stupid movie.

It also grossed like 300 million dollars according to Wiki.

I mean, I'm just surprised it took four years for the sequel.

How does this fit into the alien universe chronologically? After prometheus?

You know, I rewatched Prometheus recently, and it's actually a lot more enjoyable than people give it credit for. Are there a dozen logical oddities at play? Sure. Are some characters constantly switching between being brilliant and stupid? Oh yes. But it's a visually stunning experience, and I found the mythology stuff really fun. Ridley has such an eye for in-movie geography - I always felt I knew where characters were going, and how they were going to get there. It gave the world a real, lived-in feel.

I dunno, I get why people don't like it, but I like it. Sue me.

Overall I agree, the concept for Prometheus was pretty great and so were the visuals. I enjoyed the film but when I thought about it a bit more of course the logical issues started to bother me.

Is this another 'omg we find aliens for the first time all over again and everybody dies except for the android's head and 1 human' kind of a deal?

How do you wind up making a xenomorph going up a woman's vagoo boring as hell?

The opposite....but yeah

As someone who actually liked Prometheus I'm totally in for this. Looks like the characters make the same kind of questionable decisions as they do in Prometheus which was one of the major flaws with that flick.

People who like Prometheus generally tend to fall in to two camps

1) "yeah it was fucking stupid but it was pretty as hell and Fassbender was ace" which I can respect even if I don't personally agree, because for me the cons outweigh the pros

2) "people hate this film just to be edgy, I bet you guys would hate alien too! Other people liked it, there aren't any valid reasons to dislike the movie" etc. This camp drives me up a fucking wall.

Leaning close to an opening facehugger egg, exploring alien worlds without protective suit and having no intel from prior expeditions. FFS.

I'm in the camp where I thought it was gorgeous, Fassbender was amazing, and despite a couple characters being idiots (it's a horror film, it happens) and Theron not being able to run sideways, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The mythology was fine with me, also.

His last Sci-Fi movie was critically acclaimed.

And I liked Prometheus.

I see no reason not to be excited about this.

I can see people thinking The Martian is an entertaining movie, but it was empty entertainment. Alien has a name and expectations to meet. He isn't good enough to do that kind of film again.

Man, I always thought Alien was above the "killing the guys about to fuck" cliché.

Not even resurrection sank that low.

Hype levels: 0.00%
