Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Need a little advice from Steam-GAF.

I've sold a few more cards, so I'm sitting at $7.65.

My options in my wish list:
- Age of Mythology. The only issue with that is I already have AoE III in my library and haven't played it. Enough of a difference to get AoM or should I just fire up AoE?

- Endless Space. The only issue with that is I already have Galactic Civ II and only scratched the surface with it. Any reason to get ES or just play Gal Civ?

- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Never played a Metal Gear game. Does that matter for this?

Other options:
- Sell a couple more cards and grab Helldivers at $7.99
- Take a look at the $5 games like Life is Strange or Undertale and have some change left over.

On that list I'd probably get Endless Space. It is different enough from Gal Civ 2 to be worth it, and has some interesting stuff. Endless Legend, their fantasy 4X is better, but likely out of price range.

I've heard Helldivers is good but it has a crapload of DLC, all of the equipment variety I believe. Getting game+all DLC on sale is $15.99.

Edit: Endless Legend is $7.49 on steam right now, but unlike Endless Space it has had a number of DLCs, while Space only had one. If you like the game you could get Legend's DLCs later.

Interesting that the winter cards don't expire until Feb. Hoping its not a typo on Valve's end as its unusual for them to do this.

You'll miss out on some references, but it's absolutely not important. It stands alone as a very good action game.

Its the only good Metal Gear game tbh so ignore the rest.

Thanks for the responses!

I already have Endless Legend. Hmm... Might need to fire that one back up. I had played the tutorial and didn't get into it based on that.

And I know Life is Strange is highly rated. Not sure what keeps me from pulling the trigger on that one. The high school setting? I'm 49 years old, so pretty far removed from feeling like the game would click for me.

I'm probably gonna lean toward Metal Gear.

I'm already using an Xbox One controller for my desktop and I play on a TV in the living room - is there anything I'm missing from a Steam controller? Can you control the desktop mouse using it? Does the controller do a decent job mimicking mouse in games?

Yes and yes.

I absolutely adore Chime, but my love doesn't extend quite so far for Chime Sharp. Gameplay wise, Sharp is an improvement, but the music is less to my taste - there's, like, 3 times the number of songs in Sharp, but nothing for me that matches Philip Glass's Brazil in the first game.

That said, they're both great games, and I don't think you can go particularly wrong with either at the prices they're going for now.

Ta; will get the first then for the price it's at. Really enjoyed the demo of Chime Sharp.

Also thanks to Rhaknar, I was kind of sold reading your post :D

Umineko and Higurashi are both great. Both only have the first arc available on Steam so far though.

Pedantic FTFY FTW.

(Durante, could I ask you to recommend a good monitor? 1080p+, 120fps+, anything but TN, non-curved, G-Sync would be appreciated, but not really necessary)

Oh my word - Dragon's Dogma runs beautifully. I'd liked the game enough when I was playing it on PS3, but the frame rate and graphics are such a massive upgrade, even on my modest PC (I'm on an Alienware Alpha from last year). This will eat up dozens more hours of my life! Anyone looking for a good bread-and-butter RPG with action combat needs to check it out asap.

Eek. I have this on 360 so wasn't planning on getting it for my PC. But I just upgraded to a 1070 so maybe I should play it on PC instead.

There aren't really a lot of options for that:
http://geizhals.at/?cat=monlcd19wide&xf=106_1%7E106_3%7E6492_120%7E6807_keine+W%F6lbung

The problem is that many of the new screens are curved (I also don't like it). And that everything VA (which I would prefer) is currently limited to 1080p. I'm hoping for CES.

I don't know how the game was tech-wise on 360 vs. PS3, but it was a framey, somewhat janky mess on PlayStation that I loved in spite of its rough exterior. Combat feels totally different at a buttery 60FPS, even just in the prologue.

If you can spare the measly $11.99 DD is right now on sale, it feels sooooooo good. The only thing I genuinely want to know: Is there a mod that lets me restore the superior title music of the vanilla non-Dark Arisen game?

Edit: I am pumping my fist so hard right nowwwww

Going to say the same thing. I prefer VA for LCD. Only thing that I found that fit all of the criteria is this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PEX20/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Just wish LG would make a 32-40" OLED 4k 10-bit 120hz freesync panel.

Edit: Also who keeps hiring the people who think "Gamer" design is BLACK/RED/ANGULAR

The House in Fata Morgana - Chapter 3

:(
This was really difficult to read. The maid wasn't lying when she said that everyone involved with the manor has a life full of misfortune.
This was heart-wrenching.

Also (maybe a slight spoiler from a little after the end of chapter 3) the
man in the painting is totally the white-haired girls father from the first door. No answers please, just talking to myself.

New Humble Bundle soon?
Here's hoping there's at least 1 good bundle in December after two weeks of humble nothing bundle followed by humble rebundle.

Tried buying Trials Fusion only for the damn game to crash repeatedly for my brother's laptop, now I've refunded it. A shame that the money can't be spent until a week from now :(

I'm looking at picking up Shadow Warrior and Downwell. Are they good picks?

get civ 4. it's a much better game.

Civ V is easier for newcomers, and honestly Civ VI is much better as it is.

With that said, each of the civ games are their own game that honestly the only game you could compare with each other is Civ II to IV

Chapter 4 will murder you.
Then chapter 5 will violate your corpse, behead you and then gouge your eyes out.

Even stranger that children who enjoy that style wouldn't be able to afford that monitor anyways. Best to go for a more modern look.

I have no thoughts on factorio, my comment was merely about our unsaid pact to not buy God Eater because its only 60%

I can't keep up with Steam thread gossip.

There's a great looking Dell 24 inch 1440p (for that amazing PPI), 165Hz G-Sync panel, but alas...
TN
QA issues
pixel inversion

All G-Sync IPS panels have QA issues as well, not to mention severe IPS glow.

All G-Sync VA panels are curved, which is a non-starter for me

It's like all the monitor makers don't wont my money.

It is a curious problem. Have you tried looking for Korean panels that suit your needs (minus g-sync)

Edit: something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crossover-2...093717?hash=item4b05289855:g:ueEAAOSwaB5XmvqI

Haven't read any reviews tho, also not 120hz, but almost there.

my nitpick about Paint it Back is turning into actual grievance as I just did a room with just normal puzzles on purpose, and on the main selection it looks the same as any other room I fully completed :(

Still amazing game tho, probably my best sale purchase :3

also, Nabs

Picked up that Batman Bundle Stars bundle because it seemed like the cheapest way to get Blackgate + the Origins DLC. As I already own Asylum, City, and Origins, you guys can have them!

I almost got fooled and bought Street Fighter X Tekken for 5.99$.

Then I realized they sold it with the ''''Additional characters'''' for 15$, fuck off. :lol

Game was awesome. Nice, light metroidvania. It's pretty short, but it has some cool traversal mechanics. Plays good on a decent system, it might be bad on a six year old laptop or something.

its short but feels long, does that make sense? probably because of the contant new locations / weapons and upgrades you visit and get in a short space.

its short tho for sure, 4-5 hours unless you re a completionist

The gameplay of that game tho... <3

yeah I'm warming up to it, I missed some basic stuff at the beginning with the combat so it felt very different than the first game at first

the fuck were they thinking with Warrior Within. I forget, does the PC version still have the Disturbed song when the monster pops up? lol

the heavy metal bgm? Yeah, the change of tone is just so weird lol, but I don't mind

Nabs, you're the reason I keep trying the Steam controller. I've found a few games I like with it, like Civ 6 couch gaming is very nice with the Steam controller.

Keep at it. If you have any questions, or need suggestions on configs you're working on, please let me know. The SC thread is full of good ideas and information, i recommend checking it out if you haven't already.

Mom got me one of these for $54 on clearance at Walmart for Xmas. Not great but for $54 it can't be beat...

Acer Sky Blue 11.6" R11 R3-131T-C1YF touch screen 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop PC with Intel Celeron N3050 Processor, 2GB Memory, 32GB eMMC and Windows 10

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-Sky-...Touchscreen-32GB-eMMC-and-Windows-10/46444950

I manage a RadioShack and it's normally slow as hell. So I'm looking for some stuff that would play halfway decent, in like RPG and strategy.

Yeah, I understand it's going to be old stuff, and that's ok. It runs like Icewind Dale and Baldurs Gate just fine.. I also already have knights of the old republic 2 on steam.

So thinking RPG, civ type, maybe builder game..... Is there anything like a more recent Master of Magic?

You could try the Spiderweb games, like Avernum and Avadon. They are turn-based and shouldn't be very taxing on your system: http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/1303/

does anyone know when the GMG sale ends (well, mainly the voucher ends). Very tempted to bite on RE7 for 36€ with the VIP+voucher price, which is outside of my sale budget, but my sale budget is in my steam wallet anyway, so this would be me... treating myself I guess.
