Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

I'll probably go with Wolfenstein, Oxenfree and Tales of Zestiria for now.

It's crazy how Doom is still quite expensive tho

What? The newest DOOM? Its less than year old and its under 20$. I can't think of a triple a game that came down in price faster that wasn't a total flop.

Haven Moon is a short (2-3 hour) Myst-a-like: a point and click adventure with primarily environment-driven puzzles set in an abandoned world you explore and figure out. It is very beautiful, the score is excellent, and the puzzles are challenging but fun and logical. On the other hand, performance is somewhat rough and it's clearly a "my first game" thing because there are weird UI niggles and some stuff doesn't quite work. It was all made by one person, it's an obvious labour of love, and I would recommend giving it a play if you like Myst and want other games like it. The $15 base price ($10 on sale) is probably a little steep and I would recommend paying for something like Obduction before you go for Haven Moon.

Went ahead and picked up Mad Games Tycoon, Shovel Knight, and Prison Architect. Scrutinizing the others before I commit to a purchase. Speaking of which has anyone here tried Space Pirates and Zombies 2? I know it is in early access but was curious for firsthand accounts.

And a question for modbot giveaways. I have a few games that have been sitting in my steam inventory for awhile I have not been able to give to friends. Are those something I could give away via modbot, where I'd have to contact the winners after the drawing to dispense the games? They aren't CD keys, they are either through my steam friends list or recipient's email.

I think the RE7 offer ends on the 29th.

Really, really wish the demo was more representative of what the final game supposedly is. I'm very tempted to get it, but I'm still very worried it'll be more Amnesia than RE despite positive previews.

I too wish it was more representative of the final product. Even just five minutes of a "vertical slice" of later content, as developers are so fond of saying.

does anyone know when the GMG sale ends (well, mainly the voucher ends). Very tempted to bite on RE7 for 36€ with the VIP+voucher price, which is outside of my sale budget, but my sale budget is in my steam wallet anyway, so this would be me... treating myself I guess.

I thought I saw someone mention earlier that you can switch your copy of Witcher 3 from GOG to Steam?

If so has anyone made the switch? I feel like it would make sense for me since the bulk of my collection is on Steam.

Looking to pick something up in the winter sale RPGish wise.

I'm currently playing Pillars of Eternity but taking a break, I can only take so much of the game at a time. It's weird, I really really like it but I get into it deep. I think I just finished chapter 2 and I have something like 80 hours lol.

Anyway, I grew up on jrpgs, have been branching away from those as they're not hitting the spots I need anymore. I think part of it is some lengthy side stuff in the game. I've wondered about Skyrim, or maybe picking up Witcher 3? I've heard from various things that both games have down sides to them.

I'm also thinking of getting Doom / Hitman. Doom for the crazy fun I've heard and Hitman to hit my sneaking itch. I've missed out on the crazy cheap Hitman deals, oh well.

Any input would be appreciated.

That https://todoist.com website in the latest Humble bundle could actually be pretty useful. I was using calendar to perform some recurrent TODO tasks and this website offers more flexibility such as check something every 1st Friday of the month (Humble Monthly Bundle, GAMEPUMP), or do something every 4 days starting today, etc. When you are done, with the task, you can check it and the website updates the date for the next occurence.

It's on sale for cheaper on GMG, just by a bit. Also got a voucher for their sale, WINTER10 (comes out to $17.09 afterward). I bought it for a bit over twice that and feel I got my moneys worth.

What? The newest DOOM? Its less than year old and its under 20$. I can't think of a triple a game that came down in price faster that wasn't a total flop.

You're right. It came out this year and it was a huge success.
I'll check the GMG sale. Thx guys :)

Skyrim and Witcher 3 are both excellent buys, the former for its moddablity, and the latter for its superb story and graphics. There are, as you said, downsides to each, but nothing I felt prevented me from enjoying them.

Another RPG you could consider is Tyranny, though it is not on a deep sale. Just 10%, knocking its price to $40.49. It is made by Obsidian Studios, same people behind Pillars and uses the same engine and hand-drawn backgrounds. Being so similar to Pillars may be a downside since you said you were taking a break on it. It has a smaller cast of party members, a party size limit of 4, and a different focus. Gameplay-wise it is very similar to Pillars, though they changed a number of the systems and changed the game from an XP to level system to a level by doing system. Swing a one-handed sword at a guy and hit, get XP for one-handed weapons. Get enough and it improves by one level, and you get some general character XP, get enough of that and you level up and can upgrade a statistic and invest in talent trees.

$50 worth of credit.

I bought the first Danganronpa and Subnautica. I think this and the active stuff in my backlog should keep me satisfied until the Summer. I'll leave some credit for that or if there's another sale for a game I really want then.

Was tempted by more Early Access titles, but decided it was best to give in to the urge. Everspace looks really pretty and Astroneer also looks very fun. Will keep eyes on (and with luck, Astroneer will go on another sale in a few months).

:D

Thanks! Tyranny is definitely on my list but I think I'm going to grab that next summer sale.

The Witness. Worth it? I like puzzle games and solving puzzles for puzzles' sake and the satisfaction that comes with that but I'm worried the length will wear me out and I'll get bored if the puzzles aren't engaging enough.

Anyone have thoughts on farcry primal for 25$?
I really enjoyed my 38 hours with it. I did extra time at the end to get some achievements on uplay. The story is very basic but there's a lot of different ways to play and tools to use. I never was short for crafting materials so maybe play on Survival mode of you want that additional challenge. Bow and arrow is the primary weapon, not melee. I'm not used to paying that much for any game, but if you're used to it and a fan of Ubisoft open worlds...

Not sure what the price is but I bought it full price on PS4 and it's definitely worth it if you like puzzles.

this boss in Assault Android Cactus near the end is ruining the game for me, I fucking hate when games change the rules like this.

If you like puzzle games, you should definitely give it a try. There's a lot of puzzles, but the game constantly invents new things so it never really gets boring. The puzzles themselves are also really fun.

But the instructions have me worried, it says "(if you include more than one game, you will be blocked from entering)." Then it says

Hmmm

One game per PM max.

Send as many PM as you want.

Just don't send multiple entries in one PM. Send one PM for every one game you want.

It explains exactly what you need to do. If you include more than one game in a single PM, you will be blocked from entering. If you want to enter for multiple games, send an individual PM for each game you'd like to win.

Have you programmed ModBot all by your own? Its amazing what it can do.

.

If they are in your inventory, gift them to yourself via email (not through steam). You'll get a URL link, just remove the ?Redeemer= email address part, and then use that URL with modbot.

Oh god.
PS4 GPU has both HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.
PS4 has HDMI output.
You'd think Sony would connect PS4 GPU HDMI to PS4 HDMI Output.
Nope.
PS4 GPU DisplayPort -> external HDMI encoder on motherboard -> PS4 HDMI Output.
Why?

I thought I will be banned when I do the latter, too... good to know.

No one is banned ever! If someone messes up, the worst case scenario is that they don't get properly entered into that giveaway.

Have you programmed ModBot all by your own? Its amazing what it can do.

I did write the code on my own, although a handful of people have contributed art for banners and stuff! Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad people can use something I made to spread happiness, cheer, and sharing.
