Really disappointed by Dark Souls 3 so far, so much of the game is a (minor spoiler?)
literal retread of the first game but in miniature
. DS2 had a lot of fluff and barren areas but it at least created a relatively unique world that stood alone. They completely eliminated the dynamic lighting as well. Honestly nothing in the game has surprised or created any sense of awe in me and that's a first for the series. DS2's high's were far more interesting than anything I've come across so far.

Hope it picks up after
Anor Londo

Edit: Ok I will say the snowy area was beautiful at first.

It will pick up I would argue. Also has one of the most beautiful areas in Souls.

Jeez, this base defense mission in XCOM 2 is kicking my butt. Looking at guides/suggestions it looks like I've encountered it very early in the game so I don't really have the tools to deal with it. I only just discovered Magnetic weapons and my only ranger with concealment is gravely injured.

I tried bum rushing it and died in about 2 turns. Tried sending out scouts to let my snipers squad sight it no luck.

I loved the aesthetic of Child of Light, and even the fact that dialogue is written in terrible rhymes, but its timer based turn-based elements system did not work well for me.

Basically, characters take turns based on time progression determined by their stats, and each action also takes a certain amount of time before they trigger, and can be interrupted if a character (or monster) is attacked before its action triggers.

However, the actual result of this is that battles later into the game become complete wipes, where either you or the opponent barely gets to do anything, since you or they are constantly being interrupted during the wind-up phase of actions, or they become long frustrating slogs to finally beat your opponent or get wiped. You can defend to avoid interrupts, which causes you to block one attack and then gives your next action a speed boost, but once you fight multiple enemies that both buff their own speed and debuff yours, then your followup action just gets interrupted anyway.

So if you play Child of Light, then I would strongly suggest playing on easy to avoid having to deal so much with the combat system.

It was the opposite for me: game felt really easy on normal, so I restarted on hard. Hard mode isn't particularly challenging, but you won't be able to just breeze through battles. Easy is just... well, really easy, at least in my experience (not a pro, I have pretty standard gaming skills).

Child of light would be so much better with a different battle system. You sometimes get interrupted 10 times before being able to land a single hit.

I love it ^_^

It's really a matter of preference, not skill. If you find the combat boring, play it on easy. If you like it, play it on hard.

Now, if you want delightfully weird and highly playable, check out Straimium Immortaly.

This looks really weird! I love it! I think I'll get it, thanks!

So i wanted to ask again, any recomendations for good and cheap anime and jrpgs / classic rpgs? Preferably with low pc requirements as i will have to play in a laptop.
Thanks for everything!
EDIT: no ff! I have already played them all so i would prefer something different though i do enjoy turn based systems.

The Last Remnant is a good one. Similar to FF, cheap and old enough to run well.

I never finished the original Drakensang, but I did like what i played of it. Is it worth buying Rivers of Time, or should I finish the original first?

The River of Time is better than the original, but it's not drastically different. Since you liked the original, you'll very likely like River of Time even more.

On the other hand, since they are so similar, playing one right after the other might not be the best idea. I started with the River of Time and tried playing the original right after, but it kind of just felt like I was repeating things I've already done. Maybe it's better if you go in the other direction, since River of Time does improve some things.

What's better: Dragon Ball Xenoverse or Xenoverse 2 or NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 if I only want to play single player/story mode?

Edit: Ok I will say the snowy area was beautiful at first.

This is how I felt after finishing it. As someone that doesn't really take in much of the lore, the
retreads of old areas by and large failed to capture the potent mood (Anor Londo), the distinct level design intricacy (Tower of Latria), or the dynamic use of space and enemy placement (Blighttown/Shrine of Amana vs all the forgettable poison/water zones in 3) seen in the series' predecessors
. I've really soured on Dark Souls 3 over time as it often values consistently middling callbacks over the more bold overworld design of Dark Souls 1 and the thematic richness scattered throughout Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. I'll gladly take the rough spots of the earlier games over something that's content with only sticking to what's expected.

Haven't played xenoverse 2, but I like Naruto UNS4 more than Xenoverse 1. Xenoverse 1 also felt too grindy, I felt I had to replay mission alot to raise my level before I can continue the story mode.

Tangentially Steam related because the game will release on Steam eventually (already approved on greenlight) but KEEN is having a thunderclap for the 30th, when their indiegogo crowdfunding campaign will launch.
I played the alpha they have available back when it was first put up for voting on greelight and it surprised me in regards to how enjoyable it was to play for it being just an alpha.
Give it a look and maybe join their thunderclap if you find it interesting. KEEN is also another one of the SE Collective approved games.

played ¿the first chapter? in psp. However if i wanted to play the continuations i would have to replay it as i cant remember everything :/

SC is better than FC, I'd say it's the best JRPG series I've played on steam so I'd recommend either playing FC again or looking at a summary if you just want to jog your memory of the important bits.
Also check out Valkyria Chronicles, Danganronpa 1+2, Steins Gate. They're not JRPG but they are anime as fuck.

Played danganronpa and steins in vita and i watched their anime.
I already own Valkyria Chronicles and i am waiting for the 2 and 3 to be launched to buy them again.
So i guess i will have to get SC

Have you played Cthulhu Saves the World? It's pretty good and cheap. Evoland 2 is kind of a JRPG with lots of different genres of gameplay Zelda/puzzle/turn based and more. Evoland 1 is okay but worse in every way compared to 2.

Oh man, why did I start the process of installing texture mods for Mass Effect 3 even though I decided it wasn't worth the massive time it takes for ME2? It's taking even longer for ME3! It's nearly 3PM and I started the process at like 9AM... If the game crashes on launch after all of this, I will sell my PC and become a tibetan monk.

This looks really weird! I love it! I think I'll get it, thanks!
Yay, someone looked at it! It seems it's a bit too weird for most folks so I can't really get anyone to take a look, but I hope you'll be happy with it since it is also an actually good game that plays well. (It's a roguelite Metroidvania shooter if you want to know exactly what it is before buying. I know it's pretty hard to tell how it plays from the media on the storepage.)

The series also has a single-screen platformer called Straima that you might want to check out. And the same developer is more known for Echo of the Wilds.

There are a few good RPGMaker games out there, and they're almost always cheap. More than 90% of them have classic JRPG mechanics, with a handful going the Secret of Mana route.

Have you tried Skyborn? It's like 3 bucks.

The Witness has been on my list for a while now, but I'm still unsure if I should get it. To those who played it, did you get bored of the game quickly?

Do you have a 386 SX CPU or what?
Maybe you're just running trojan bitcoin miner?
Unless the program creates all the textures from scratch using Atari XL emulator running Logo, the process shouldn't be taking so long...

Played it with a feverish passion from start to finish (52 hrs). Your relationship to the game and its different components is going to be very subjective though. The Witness did not gel with a bunch of (very vocal) people on gaf.

Yeah, Cthulhu is one of the games I always recommend, really nice sense of humour with a classic gamestly.
Evoland 2 is also pretty awesome, havent played 1 because they told me it wasnt worth compared to 2.

Yeah i have played skyborn and some of the rpgmaker games but i think it would be better if you gave a more in depth recommendation with my game list:

Have you played Grandia 2? It's pretty good.
Other than that there's Half-minute Hero 1 & 2.

Well, if you want to stay on the lookout for them, keep in mind that their publisher, KISS, is a very active bundle publisher. The odds of Groupees having a KISS build-a-bundle within the next 6 months are pretty much 100%, so if you can wait, keep an eye out for that and you should be able to score all of those for like $1 instead of $4 and change. I'm not going to completely condemn them if you like weird, since they are indeed some of the weirdest on Steam.

Now, if you want delightfully weird and highly playable, check out Straimium Immortaly.

This looks pretty rad.

Does anyone have any opinions on the other game, just plain Straimium? For that matter, the rest of the bundle it's in?

Echo of the Wilds looks nice and trippy, with a side of melancholy.

I've had about 3 games that I played and got refunded recently until I found Rebel Galaxy. In the latest refund response, Steam support mentioned that I've had an "unusually high" number of refunds and I should use reviews instead of refunds to see if I like a game. Has anyone noticed if they refuse to issue refunds because of this?

And also, are there other games like Rebel Galaxy? The games I tried and didn't like were:
* Starpoint Gemini 2 -- Wasn't newbie friendly enough, and the text was super hard to read from my couch (I play with a controller and TV mode)
* SPAZ2 - Same problem with text and UI. Wasn't as fun as SPAZ. Seemed incomplete

I've finished the story in Rebel Galaxy, and am just puttering around. And was looking for something like it with more content.

thanks, I guess I'll give it a try. The puzzles don't get as abstract as in Fez, right? That game became unplayable without a guide after a while

Have you played Grandia 2? It's pretty good.
Other than that there's Half-minute Hero 1 & 2.
No, do i need to have previous knowledge about Grandia?
And Halfminute hero 1 and 2 have already been more or less beaten (i really hate hero 10)

Have you played and liked/loved Earthbound? If yes, check out Undertale. If no, you should check out Undertale.
Yeah bought it drm free, pretty great game and it really cuts deep

They all look very interesting! I'll only get Immortaly now, but I'm adding the other two to my wishlist. Thanks!

No, it's not just me, the ME3Explorer tool just is this massively slow. All the mod pages have warnings about how long it takes, and that's apparently after they made huge improvements to it after ME2Explorer! As far as I can tell, it's taking regular .DDS texture files and converting them to whatever proprietary format ME uses. Why the textures aren't just prepackaged and ready to paste into the right folder, I don't know... Possibly because there are two methods of applying textures and they're maximizing compatability? Would've been nice to just offer two downloads instead of making users spend the time, though, especially since the mod authors don't really have to care about wasting server space on Nexus.

This looks pretty rad.

Yeah, I mentioned them a bit above. Straima is a single-screen platformer that plays well and looks pretty much exactly like Immortaly does, but platforming isn't my thing as much as shooting is so I don't have a deeper opinion of it. It's sort of similar to N+ but with a different moveset. I can say that if you like the aesthetics and jumping around, it's probably worth the sale cost to check it out.

Echo of the Wilds is pretty much exactly what you said it is, though with far weaker gameplay mechanics, IMO, than the Straima games, which is why I didn't stick with that one either.

The guy is certainly an interesting developer, in any case.

thanks, I guess I'll give it a try. The puzzles don't get as abstract as in Fez, right? That game became unplayable without a guide after a while

No, absolutely not. The Witness provides an explanation for each puzzle type. Finding and/or interpreting this explanation isn't always as straightforward as a step by step instruction, but you should be able to figure it out.

One tip: never engage with a puzzle you haven't been taught yet how to solve. As you explore the island, you'll encounter areas that will explain puzzle types. Then you will be able to return later to an area that you encountered a puzzle in that you didn't initially understand. It's like a metroidvania type game in that sense, so there's no need to bash your head against it since you don't have the necessary tools yet. The town area is mid- to late-game content for when you know how to work out most/all puzzle types, so don't worry too much about that when you get there early on.

Have fun! You're in for a wild ride. The Witness is my personal favorite game of 2016.

How far has everyone progressed on Devil Daggers? I feel like I need to stop because I've hit a wall but If I do stop I'm not sure I'll ever get back to where I am now....plus playing DD seems like the equivalent of RPG grind at the moment....
