Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Really disappointed by Dark Souls 3 so far, so much of the game is a (minor spoiler?)
literal retread of the first game but in miniature
. DS2 had a lot of fluff and barren areas but it at least created a relatively unique world that stood alone. They completely eliminated the dynamic lighting as well. Honestly nothing in the game has surprised or created any sense of awe in me and that's a first for the series. DS2's high's were far more interesting than anything I've come across so far.

Hope it picks up after
Anor Londo

Edit: Ok I will say the snowy area was beautiful at first.
yeah it's sadly a very safe last entry for the series, the boss fights and the level design are very good and polished but all the magic is missing (also i fucking hate that like two thirds of the npcs in the nexus repeat the same live for the majority of the game)

dark souls 2 wasn't perfect and in lots of respects it's a much worse game than 3 but i feel like at least it had ambition

No, absolutely not. The Witness provides an explanation for each puzzle type. Finding and/or interpreting this explanation isn't always as straightforward as a step by step instruction, but you should be able to figure it out.

One tip: never engage with a puzzle you haven't been taught yet how to solve. As you explore the island, you'll encounter areas that will explain puzzle types. Then you will be able to return later to an area that you encountered a puzzle in that you didn't initially understand. It's like a metroidvania type game in that sense, so there's no need to bash your head against it since you don't have the necessary tools yet. The town area is mid- to late-game content for when you know how to work out most/all puzzle types, so don't worry too much about that when you get there early on.

Have fun! You're in for a wild ride. The Witness is my personal favorite game of 2016.

nice, you sold me on the game daxy

No, it's not just me, the ME3Explorer tool just is this massively slow. All the mod pages have warnings about how long it takes, and that's apparently after they made huge improvements to it after ME2Explorer! As far as I can tell, it's taking regular .DDS texture files and converting them to whatever proprietary format ME uses. Why the textures aren't just prepackaged and ready to paste into the right folder, I don't know...

That is a long time for those ME3 textures, but I've got a pretty fast CPU and mine still took 1-2 hrs. But even with that amount of time I reached the same conclusion as you - it's probably not worth it and I'd be fine using vanilla textures for the most part! The whole process is so time-consuming and must be done in exact order to work correctly.

My DS4 controller won't work with Steam using DS4Windows anymore. Why?

Edit: Got it working again. Turns out I needed to reboot my computer. I tried to use it after turing it off and on (not stand by) and that didn't help. I did click on the install driver button again in ds4windows after that, but it didn't do anything, so I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it working again or not.

Just purchased Undertale, 'cause I still had some spare money left in my Steam wallet. So, my tally thus far: Final Fantasy VI, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Life is Strange, The Secret of Monkey Island, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Undertale. Might still grab something before the sale ends, I dunno.

How far has everyone progressed on Devil Daggers? I feel like I need to stop because I've hit a wall but If I do stop I'm not sure I'll ever get back to where I am now....plus playing DD seems like the equivalent of RPG grind at the moment....

I cant pass 90 (ish) seconds, and the next person on my list is like 150 seconds, something I feel I will never manage so Im pretty much done with the game. Fun 2 hours tho.

Got a Keurig for Christmas and it's changing my life. No more wasted coffee pots and I can enjoy my games with some easy coffee. Now, to crack down on what I'm actually going to buy. Next sale is what, Spring (around April)? If so, I'll just buy Divinity this sale and leave it at that.

The River of Time is better than the original, but it's not drastically different. Since you liked the original, you'll very likely like River of Time even more.

On the other hand, since they are so similar, playing one right after the other might not be the best idea. I started with the River of Time and tried playing the original right after, but it kind of just felt like I was repeating things I've already done. Maybe it's better if you go in the other direction, since River of Time does improve some things.

I see, thanks. I might grab it anyway then, but play the original one first and then take a break in between. I have to restart the original anyway, I have no idea what i was doing :)

And I have both :v:

But did you play them enough to offset the cost?

Aren't those coffee pod machines the worst for the environment as they use a lot of packaging?

Yupppppp. Compared to a regular coffee machine, they have some insane ecological waste. Also, more expensive per cup by something like 1,000% :P You can mitigate all of that with reusable K-Cup thingies that Amazon and whoever else sells though, I've been tempted to buy some because people at work have Kuerig's scattered around but I mostly just bring enough coffee nowadays.

When I'm not playing games, I'm mostly drinking coffee. Even when I am playing games, I'm also drinking coffee~

The thing is that you definitely can pass 90 because thanks to the infuriating game design you probably felt the same around the 40-50 second mark at some point, and then you suddenly cracked it. My friends list is empty for this game so I'm just competing against the leaderboard but it's gut wrenchingly awful to see your placing slowly eroded away as time goes by....

So i wanted to ask again, any recomendations for good and cheap anime and jrpgs / classic rpgs? Preferably with low pc requirements as i will have to play in a laptop.
Thanks for everything!
EDIT: no ff! I have already played them all so i would prefer something different though i do enjoy turn based systems.
Tales of Symphonia is going for $5, it's not turn based though. Have you tried Disgaea or Phantom Brave?

They probably are but I very rarely drink coffee, so I also barely use it. But when I need just one cup, it'll be an easy brew.

Thankfully I drink very very little coffee (I'm talking like maybe a cup a week if even that), so the price of the pods is my convenience fee. I do have a reusable cylinder for my machine as well though, once I finish this sampler pack off.

Back to Divinity, I think this is what I want to play on my Steam Link. I have one pad on the SL, one to my PC via adapter so I have a perfect two player set up. I couldn't get BPM to boot into just my account, so I have a wireless MKB (2 in 1) next to my table to select my account.

PC COMFY COUCH GAMING LIVES

well sure but I dont care enough about it to bang my head against it until I crack that mental block :p

on a unrelted note, I hate getting foil cards

Not if you're using refillable pods.

Anyone check out Bad Ass Babes?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/529000/

Reminds me of the old shitty digitized era in arcades. There's a certain charm to badly animated digitized brawlers.
It looks like garbage to me but I find it hilarious that Valve allowed a game with a title that's not actually allowed on Steam. You have to review "Bad *** Babes" if you want to write about it on Steam itself. Just the perfect example of how little effort Valve is putting into their storefront.

oh by the way, The Detail season 1, which many of us have episode 1 from various bundles, is 80% off, for those that want to finish the season and not hope for eps 2 and 3 to show up in random bundles.

You even get a slight discount on top from owning ep 1

£28 left in my wallet. What to buy?

I have $148 from card money but I dont really want anything that I will play right now. I think I will keep most of it sitting in Steam and buy games Day 1 that I want to play this year. I have to finish Mankind Divided and Watchdogs 2 right now.

dat brag tho

Since it was in a recent Humble monthly there might be some keys still floating around in the B/S/T thread or less reputable places for cheaper.
Oh, I had no idea. I'd have jumped on that Humble bundle otherwise.

No luck on BST, /r/SteamGameSwap, or even the less reputable places. Eh, I've got a few more days to decide.

So if I have a 1440p GSync monitor, is a Steam Link worth it to play on a 1080p TV? Would a long HDMI be better? Also, what would be the best option for a controller, a blue tooth receiver to use with my DS4, an XBone controller or a Steam Controller? Sometimes I think playing on the couch would be nice.

Hmmmm, I have a hard time deciding what I want to get. I'm looking at the first pack for Pinball Arcade but thats 18€. My list that I want so far is:

Quantum Break
Corpse Party
Danganronpan
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Resident Evil / biohazard HD REMASTER
STEINS;GATE
Shovel Knight

But most of them are a bit pricey and I want to try and maximize and get as many games cheap and wait out the more expensive to the next sale. But I want them now..... -.-
And I'm looking at the new Walking Dead season and perhaps Batman and Minecraft: Story Mode.

So UWP Hook is cool and all but it doesn't properly allow Steam Link support... yet. Cool concept but ultimately useless for me right now. Goddamn you MS and your shitty apps.

I just ordered one to play on my 1080p plasma, despite having a 4K Gsync monitor. Some games are just nice to throw on in your living room sat on the couch, and can't really argue with the price. I hope it's good!

List of purchases :

Pony Island
Assault Android Cactus
Life Is Strange Complete Season
Satellite Reign

I'm all set for now.
