Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

For those that have played it, is Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide worth it for two people? Thinking about blind buying it for me and my brother.

Looking for opinions on the following games:

Should I drop any of these or are any cheaper elsewhere?

heads up that Titan Souls is a PS+ game next month if you have a PS4/Vita.

no no no

you guys missed the idea of my post

I was asking if Ori is good, as in truly good. I brought up Child of Light because people said it was good, but then I bought it in PSN and all I got was a crappy, mindless, really slow RPG and it seemed people only were wowed by the artstyle and never really played good RPGs.

This is the second time GAF failed me with a recommendation, ironically the first being another Ubisoft shit - Rayman Origins.

I mean, you realize that you can't really get a real answer from this right? People will like games that you will hate and vice versa. There is no such thing as "truly good."

Having said that I really liked Ori but be aware that there are sections that require a lot of trial and error so if that isn't your bag you may want to skip

It's really telling how Valve doesn't give a shit about making the sales interesting anymore. They don't even put effort into making the backgrounds and emoticons you get from the Steam Awards badge to be something minimally appealing.

Well basically I'm mostly asking for the gameplay aspect. Like a comparison to existing games would be nice. Since in hindsight I should have known better that people were only swooning to CoL with its graphics and narrative but not its gameplay with shit like "it's refreshing!".

That's why I'm asking if Ori is a really solid Metroidvania on par with Metroid games or Symphony of the Night.

Yeh just saw the thread. I'll remove that one and go ahead with the rest I think.

Yeah. I don't really mind no daily deals and flash sales, but they really could have done something else to make the sale more interesting.
As it is, it's just really lazy. I mean I don't even look at the featured deals of every day, I just grab the 3 cards and move on.

Sounds like whatever Boss Doggie likes we must like and what he dislikes we must also dislike

Ori is more of a hardcore platformer with Metroidvania level design and less of a Metroidvania. People really shouldn't go into it thinking its Symphony of the Night lol.

Well, since you can't tell a good game when you see it, seems like an impossible question to answer.

Impossible, I actually liked Princess Maker

People should call it a platformer.

There's that PSN game I enjoyed, Outland. It is a platformer but people kept calling it a Metroidvania game.

I had more fun with a New Super Mario game than Rayman Origins. It is "refreshing" to the eyes sure, but the level design and controls aren't.

Yea I dunno what you're looking for, but I've played games of every sort since the original NES (and even my parents Atari 2600) and I enjoyed all those games for more than just being "refreshing" or eye candy. Gameplay and all. So my recommendation is buy Ori, and refund it after an hour if you aren't into it. Since you obviously disagree with the majority opinion on what is "fun" you're gonna have to take action yourself :P

You're going to find people here who like everything. It's up to you to figure out who to listen to. And being a solid Metroidvania doesn't mean it has to be on par with the games that literally named the genre. That's an insane bar to reach.

I also thought Rayman Origins was weak

What does this mean?

The entire open world is seperated into smaller sectors all of which are about doing the exact same activities the exact same amount of times to "conquer" the sector and when you've done that you move on to the next sector and repeat the same kind of activities within the same context all over again.

Just like how all Ubisoft Open worlds post-AC2 are structured.

Look there are steam refunds give ori a play and see if ud end up liking it
Just as gaf has recommended stuff u didnt ened up liking so too have they recommended stuff u did like
Ur never gonna get anywhere unless u take the dive me bucko

I get steam refunds, but then that means I'm stuck buying within Steam. On the other hand, I am getting better deals at Steam so there's that.

I guess I'll hit up Youtube for a non-trailer fodder gameplay. The ones in Steam tell me nothing about it.

I mean, I actually like Fusion and apparently that's a "low bar", so I don't mind if it's on that level of good.

I was going to say this.

SOTN is a classic for a reason. Stacking damn near any game next to it, you'll see it shrivel in comparison. At best, you'll still probably see a little shrinkage.

But exaggerations aside, CoL doesn't really scream good game. Seriously. Is it because people are aching for a good Paper Mario game that they'll settle for it?

It's really, really good, but upside down castle was... eh.

Surprised there's still no port of it in PC.

Rayman Origins is increabile. Best platformer of last gen, and it reminded me why I used to love platformers (platinumed it too).

Never got around to playing Rayman Legends. I heard Ori was pretty special, but waiting for the sale to end on that one so I can apply that 75% discount.

I get the impression that Valve's business structure continually negatively impacts them in this regard. They only hire the best, and they are allowed to do their own work as long as it is justifiable. Improving sales is obviously justifiable, but who is going to want to commit to such a menial task?

I've said it again and again, but Valve needs to spin the Steam side off into another satellite company that has a more traditional structure.

Legends was a little disappointing to me after Origins, a lot of the content was just pulled from Origins if I recall correctly. If I HADN'T played Origins like right before it I probably would have enjoyed Legends more :P Actually it's probably still the better game if I was gonna go back and play one now but it's hard to remember.

That makes me hesitant now, which is kind of sad because the premise and aesthetic are both right up my street.

Haul so far:

Jotun
The Beginner's Guide
Not a Hero (+dlc)
McPixel

Maybe I'll buy some more on the last day, like That Dragon Cancer and Momodora IV.

Should I get stick of truth? How's the game? For some reason, I don't feel like getting anything.

Really funny if you haven't followed the tv show to closely, because they reuse a lot of jokes from that.

The gameplay is ok, nothing special. Descent turnbased combat, with some funny special powers. But it's very linear, with little replay value.

Overall an ok game, but I expected more from Obsidian.

Hey guys, I'm going to invalidate your opinion on one thing, what's your opinion on another thing?

The exiting of daily, flash and community deals was just the beginning.

Wow. I decided to clear out a lot of my wishlist to keep it more in line with stuff I actually plan on playing in the next 10 years. All the games I removed from my list are now showing up as recommendations in my discovery queue.

Thanks Steam, but I know. I know about these already.

Whhhaattttt. If you haven't played South Park: SoT, it's a must play. Absolutely great game. One of the best of the year when it came out. Great story, some innovation, hilarious, and stays true to the show and its strong gameplay complements. Buy it. You wont regret it. I thought it was such a good game that I wanted to get all the achievements for it.

Yep, this happens also if you remove the "not interested" tag from a game.

By the way, this is all you need to wishlist.

Most Anticipated
1. Miegakure ; the 4D game which got featured in an XKCD comic.
2. Gorogoa ; a puzzle-game in which the main mechanic consists in merging hand-drawn illustrations.
3. Ernesto RPG ; a game released by Daniel Benmergui, yes, it could exist!
4. The Council of Crows ; the next long-awaited game in the land of dreams, by the creators of The Sea Will Claim Everything.
5. Bomb Squad Academy ; think Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes in solo.

As for indie & non-indie games already listed on Steam, you might want to take a peek at the following games.

just realized that i passed the mark of 2.5 k steam achievements today. I should get a life and buy nothing in this sale. :P

I put Ori as number one this year.

It's a God tier game. And is in my top 3 GOAT.

And this is coming from a casual non-metroidvania gamer.

Just trust me. You will love it.

I know Danganronpa is getting rereleased next year for ps4 and Vita, does anyone know if that version will be in any way better than the PC versions? Thinking about buying them but can wait a few months if there is a cool feature or additional content in the new version.

welcome to online discussion, have a seat!

I think it's pretty clear that the first step to obtaining actual information in an online discussion is to not put off your audience immediately with a broad strokes statement about how they're probably all wrong anyway.

Yeah but somebody on the internet liked Child of Light once. And Rayman Origins too!

Ori is totally legit though. Great game.

The games are already available for the vita, I believe the PC versions are ports of the vita games.
