Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Been mostly just adding things to my Wishlist and not buying anything...
Friends did gift me Astroneer (which is awesome) and Quadrilateral Cowboy (which I haven't tried yet).

Probably shouldn't buy Divinity 2 or Tyranny considering I've just started a co-op run of Original Sin, as well as starting Pillars of Eternity... but which of the "smaller" games should I get?

Is overcooked good while playing alone?

I want to have a game when friends come, but I rarely had the time to invite them, but still want to see if is good alone to play it

It's serviceable, I still enjoyed it. But its design is intrinsically linked to co-op play.

Please Abzu come out on the Humble Monthly.

Exact reason I haven't pulled the trigger during the sale.

I figure if it doesn't come before the next sale, I'll get it then. It will have to be left off of my end of year list, though. (Assuming that the praise is on point.)

Not Steam related: I started the Last Guardian yesterday night. Super impressed already.

I got Hand of Fate earlier in the sale and I love it. It's a perfect cocktail of roguelike, card game, and Arkham action. I expect I will play many hours of that game throughout the winter.

KOTOR is great as ever, and Oxenfree is a super fun 4 hour experience.

Yeah, my first experience with it was awesome. Me and my friends were stopped by a massive group (they were nice and polite) and they gave us a whole bunch of items, some general tips and didn't shoot us in the back once we were on our way. The state it's in now makes me disappointed because it's so damn predictable.
.

I think that the main problem with this type of games is that sooner or later it becomes a griefing-fest, which makes it boring.

The namco arcade pack takes up lots of mb because of the engine the games fe running on btw

I'd love to hear some Dex impressions, one of those games I'm like 85% sold on but between that last 15% and all the other options, I just can't get myself to pull the trigger yet.

it's a nice little game. great aesthetics and pixel graphics, a nice -if not a little standard- textbook cyberpunk story, melee combat is pretty fun. a little rough around the edges, but nothing too jarring. i put 14 hours in it, definitely worse ways to spend 5$. i'd recommend it.

I finally broke down and bought Pinball Arcade: Season Two Pro Pack this sale after picking up S1P and S3P eons ago in a sale. S2P never goes on sale until now.

Speaking of Password managers Enpass is another great one to checkout and if you want true cross-platform support they pretty much cover it all. And is a local manager but default but like Keepass can be used with a cloud provider or you can sync via Wifi.
+1 for KeePass but the iPhone/Android apps aren't great. (unless I just haven't found the right one..)
At least for android Keepass2Android Password Safe works great in my experience.

Some things for the new year 😀

Does anyone have experience with Arkham Knight on PC after all the patches? Wondering if it still runs badly / is so glitchy.

This is a scheduled automated repost on behalf of an anonymous benefactor, who is running this raffle.

Just to be clear on this one. Can we enter for more than one thing but only win one? Or have to only enter for one?

it runs pretty well now. still demanding (but granted it's a visual piece of art), but performance isn't all over the place like at launch. i get a consistent 30fps at 1440p maxed out on my rather modest r9 380. on 1080p maxed out, it's fluctuates around 40-60 outside and pretty much locked 60 inside.

definitely worth the €6,79 it is now. i'd recommend the premium then instead, comes with the season pass. it's not the most meaty season pass (the opposite, in fact). but it's just €3 more and the batgirl dlc is pretty okay.

what's your pc setup?

3570k @ 4.2ghz
970 superclocked
16GB ddr3

I think I'll give it a shot.

Oxenfree is decent from what I played of it, but be warned that Night School has really, really shitty QA. Was unable to finish both it and their Mr. Robot mobile game due to game-killing bugs.

The only issue i had with Arkham Knight is a very short slow motion effect when the batmobile accelerates, but even this isnt a big problem.

Where is the cheapest to get hitman complete season 1 for non us peeps?

Cheapest price ever: 12,99€ en Steam en 3/2/2016 (Información)

So maybe there is a key reseller with a price more or less around that one. Otherwise the enhanced steam cheapest price now is the steam one.

i don't think it's cheaper anywhere than €24,99 on steam. unless you want to use cdkeys.com, it's €1 cheaper there (not really worth the difference IMO)

i don't think that €12,99 was for the complete season. it probably uses the same package as the first (few) episode(s)?

it reminds me of gta 5. according to isthereanydeal, its all-time low on steam was €15. but there's no way gta 5 on pc was ever that cheap on steam.

Yeah looking more in depth the cheapest price i cant find a key for is ca.24€ so it is probably they just changed the bundle.
Sorry

If it's gotta be 100% free across the board, I guess some version of KeePass and whatever mobile app supports KeePass files and sync the files on Dropbox or whatever? LastPass is pretty cheap and great though. I use 1Password, which I think is the best, but their business model sucks and I fart on their faces now. Any password manager is better than none.

I'm not sure where it says that exactly, I don't see a premium tab as such, but their helpdesk says this.

Now, you can use LastPass on any device, anywhere, for free. No matter where you need your passwords – on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone – you can rely on LastPass to sync them for you, for free. Anything you save to LastPass on one device is instantly available to you on any other device you use.

One of the premium features is "An ad-free vault", but I have no idea how they surface ads in the free version.

Cheaper than GAMEPUMP though.

Thanks for the Password Manager advice. Might go with premium Last Pass since it's significantly cheaper.

My current system involves me making up some long string of 4-5 random words then adding some site specific word behind that. Then I update my passwords on some services regularly, which puts me in an awkward situation where I try to remember what word string I used for this website I haven't been to in a while. Just a mess.

Thinking about getting Dark Souls 3 but had a few quick questions that hopefully someone can answer.

Are there still issues with online multiplayer, specifically the cheating/hacking portion of it?

There will always be some issues with cheating as the charters are stored client side and not server side. In my experience, running into a cheater is very rare.

Is the game technically sound or are there bugs that are quite common? I've played every souls game on the PS3/4 so I have no experience on how well the game is ported over to the PC.

With the exception of Dark Souls 1 where it was clear Namco was just throwing a hail marry with the least amount of risk possible, the Souls games have always been excellent ports.

I have a feeling it is hardware dependent. That said, I played some recently and experienced no issues. If you have a good PC, it's probably fine. I played at launch with no real problems either so I might be an outlier.

didn't have a lot of trouble at launch as well, aside from some terrible stuttering in the first hour. after that, kinda ran well for me.

but weirdly, the subsequent little patches after a day or two is what broke it for me back then. now it's okay though.

I heard that Bully Scholarship Edition has issues on Windows 10. If so, what are they?

I'm eyeing the Legacy of Kain games..how well do they work with controllers? None of them say anything about controller support

I played through the Soul Reaver games and Defiance just recently. None of them officially have controller support. They play just fine with a Steam Controller or DS4 via Big Picture Mode, although the analog stick will be acting as digital input. This works well enough imo. Defiance almost seems to compensate for it, even if you're using a keyboard.
