Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

I'm intrigued that GTA5 won the whoa dude award over MGS5, Bioshock and Witcher.

Is there a cool plot twist in there or something?

I hope next year they do the awards only for the games released in 2017. It would be better I think and give more highlight to indie titles, hidden gems etc.

It would be a great awareness tool on top of the discovery thing they did.

It wouldn't change much unless they stopped doing user nominations. The most popular stuff will always win otherwise.

Welp. This is it. My completed final haul.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Ys VI
Ys The Oath in Felghana
Consortium
IMSCARED
Deadbolt
Lost Bros
Tales of Symphonia
Ghostbusters: The Videogame
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight
Antichamber
Seraph
Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood

I feel satisfied.
Nice haul but id test out stmphonia first to see if u like how it performs
IF not u can refund long as u palyed it for under 2 hours

just sold a The Park non-foil for 55 cents...

Will do, thanks for the advice. I'm not super sensitive to performance issues so hopefully it'll run well enough for me

i think unless they do some rules on who you can vote then it's gonna be a similar case of the most popular games just winning

it'd be interesting if they went like doing categories based on tags

like "walking simulator of the year", "permadeath game of the year", "minimalistic game of the year", etc.

i think that'd be nice to surface hidden gems and by using tags you can limit it so that fucking gta5 doesn't win in a category it doesn't belong to

Those winners though... everything was robbed.

This is my round 2 of purchases:
Pharaoh Rebirth+ | Environmental Station Alpha | Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight | Crashlands | Barony | Ginger: Beyond the Crystal | Telepath Tactics | TIMEframe | Pony Island | Xanadu Next | Verde Station | Ascension to the Throne | Dex | SteamWorld Dig | Space Rangers HD: A War Apart

Round 1 was:
Amphora | Seraph | Sethian | Moekuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG

I spent a bit more on the sale than some previous ones because didn't really give (or receive) a lot of holiday gifts this year so just redirected some of that money to me :P There's a couple of pricier games I'm on the fence about, I've done well with actually finishing games this year so if that trend continues maybe I'll pick them up next time they're on sale.

I've only bought INSIDE and MGSV on this sale because I spent a lot on the Fall Sale, so I tried to control myself.

Any recommendations for the last $4 on my wallet?

There's totally walking in Skyrim. Walking sim of the year 2017!

i dont even give a fuck about these awards but where did it say it was "how well it holds up graphiclly" in the test of time?

people keep playing skyrim 5 years after release, its always one of the most played on steam, so it stood the test of time that people keep playing it

I'm looking for a great new game to play today and tomorrow. Any suggestions by anyone? Some ideas I have from reading are:

XCOM 2(Not sure if I am in the mood for a strategy game but the plot looks interesting)

You don't really buy XCOM for the plot. You buy it for the tactical combat and because you enjoy pain and torture.
But I highly recommend it if you like tactical combat games.

oh dang it

i still think it's a better idea that this goat of the year bullshit

i think ppl just expected an old game to be featured in that category as 5 years

i sure as hell did

heck, league is older than skyrim

Skyrim?

Test of Time?

Get back to me in 10 years. Let's see how it really ages.

It's already dropped like a rock on NeoGAF of all places, which I would assume would be the target demographic.

the skyrim thing is specially funny when it was already super dated at the time of release haha

When you're game still plays like Morrowind, but removes all the elements that made that game compelling.

i need that stupid villain in need of a hug card but the phone app is so unreliable i think it has cancelled 3 confirmations already without even letting me choose

:/

yeah, graphics i don't care shit about but i remember being super frustrated at how mechanically simple that game was

it's the reason i could never get past that first town, there's just nothing to that game

So I am probably done with the sale. Grabbed:

Endless Legend
Ori and the Blind Forest
Pony Island
Master Spy
SanctuaryRPG

I actually don't think it is a terrible choice based on the fact that it continues to dominate the playtime charts five years after release. I do think it is a pretty bad choice based on the quality of the game relative to the other contenders.

it's good.

listen to the redhead

For this sale, I bought

Battlerite
God Eater Resurrection
God Eater 2 Rage Burst
Street Fighter V

I might get the Steam Controller & Steam Link bundle.

God Eater Ressurection and 2 are the same game. I mean, 1 comes with 2, you bought God Eater 2. Techicalities damn it!

Weird question I doubt I'll get a response for but any recommended games that look good in Nvidia 3D vision? I got ahold of a kit so I wanna get something for it.

Also, any good games about making money and trying not to go under?

Picked up:

Hitman: Prologue and Episode 1
Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor
The Sea Will Claim Everything
Jalopy

A pretty decent mix and all for under £20.

After seeing DOOM get mentioned by tons of people in the 2016 GotY thread, I've been sorta tempted to pick it up. I'm generally not a single-player FPS guy though... but the other day I got a $20 Steam gift card, and I just saw that DOOM is on sale for $19.79. Clearly the universe is trying to send me a message. Someone convince me not to buy it.

I doubt anyone will do that.

How are people liking god eater? I sort of want to play it, but I have the last 3 MHs and I'm pretty sure those are better. Also, the super anime aesthetic does nothing for me.

So I started Fallout 4 last night and spent most of the time scraping materials for resources.

They could make an entire game like that and I would be fine just cleaning up the wasteland.

Well, here's my final purchase list

Age of Decadence
Starbound
Age of Gladiators
The Room
Toby: The Secret Mine
Albert & Otto: The Adventure Begins
Super Star

Wasn't planning to pick up Starbound, but after waiting so long I finally caved in.

F1 2013 is kinda weird, since older games are still there. Probably related to classic mode.

Yeah, Classic Mode features tracks (i.e. sponsors) and drivers (i.e. non-traditional contractual likenesses) from the 80s and 90s.

Buy it. It's pretty good.
