Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Got:
Grandia 2 Anniversary - Great port of the best Dreamcast game

Double Dragon Neon - Played two hours tonight and this is hilarious and fun with an amazing soundtrack. Ign doesn't know what they're talking about, not surprised

Azure Striker Gunvolt and Mighty Gunvolt - Haven't tried yet

Final Fantasy XI - I wanna play this one eventually

Probably bought my last purchase. Still got plenty of steam funds but I've had trouble finding things that interested me enough to buy.

Ended up with:
Halcyon 6
Postal 2 DLC
KOTOR2
FF7

Returned:
Rocket League (seemed good but also too repetitive)

GAF, I need help. I do not know which of these two to buy

or this

Thanks and happy new year!

Both are good games. Go with EL if you want more of a traditional 4x with lots of cool ideas about empire management and varied races, or go AoW3 if you want less empire management in favor of more RPG mechanics and top notch turn based tactical combat.

People recommending Telltale Batman for kids haven't played the whole thing, I think. It goes to some extremely dark, child unfriendly places in the later episodes. It's 100% parents' discretion of course, but I would think twice.

My haul this time:

  • Hyper Light Drifter [gift from a friend]: Played it for a few hours. Great art-style, great action and I love how the plot is presented.
  • Gauntlet: Looks fun, but sadly performance is very poor on my notebook. Refunded it.
  • Space Moth DX: Cheap and satisfying bullet hell.
  • Divinity II: Played it on my X360. Loved it so much I just had to buy it again (it's really cheap).
  • Euro Truck Simulator 2 [Essential Bundle]: This came out of nowhere, as I never had any interest in trucks. Downloaded the demo yesterday and it's really, really, really good.

I'm still considering a few cheap games:
  • Out There Somewhere
  • Spaceport Hope
  • Ubermosh
  • Verde Station
  • Rats - Time is Running Out
  • Bit Blaster XL
  • Insanity's Blade

Please post some impressions for this when you've played it. It looks good, but it also looks overly ambitious and might do a lot of things poorly instead of a few things well. So I'd be interested to hear.

So far bought:

Chime
House of the Dying sun
Thumper
Downwell
Everspace

Also Battlefield 1 from Origin (joining Titanfall 2 in my Origin backlog).

I have roughly a quid in my Steam wallet and I've not been out much this weekend so a tenner to blow on games (I can't really justify more games with my backlog; still not touched Abzu, Worms WMD, Civ 6, Pony Island, Overwatch, Fallout 4 and a few others).

Any recommendations for something quick and easy that I can dip in and out of? Keep looking at N++ but thinking I should wait for a better sale, also Euro Truck Simulator 2 but I'm not sure if it's for me or I'd put the time in.

I single-handedly managed to get my entire New Year's Eve party addicted to Overcooked over the course of a few hours, so to say that it's a great party game is a severe understatement.

Everybody should own this game if you have any friends willing to play a local multiplayer game.

ETS2 has a demo FYI

Stardew Valley is always a good choice =D

This being telltale it is obv aimed at an oldr audience so i dunno whyanyo e would assume it's kid friendly :x
I noy recommended it merely as a general recommendation

Oh, well. I bought the cheapest Adventure Time game which is also the one that looks most interesting. I have most of the Transformers games, only one that I don't have is Rise of the spark which everyone say sucks

Yeah it just feels like 'filler' war and fall are the better games.

I bought several copies of Pony Island to give away to my friends. I had so much fun with the game. I especially gifted a copy to the friend who was a victim.

Do you want better combat, or better exploration and base building? AoW3 is tactical combat focused, EL is more Civ style 4X. They're both great but distinctly different.

What's this? Transformers Devastation is to be removed from Steam? I've yet to purchase, should I?
Traditionally, Activision drops licenses each year. Transformers is the likely candidate this year because every title with the license is deeply discounted by 80%, even the most recent game released this year. Yeah, you should purchase it just in case. You can always refund it and buy it later if it ends up not getting removed.

What have we become? Buy a game in the hope of it being removed? Refund it if it is not?

By the way, if a removed game has cheevos, can the cheevos still be unlocked?

They can still be unlocked, unless the cheevos are bugged and the developers never cared to fix them

In hope? Or in reasonable expectation from something we know happens regularly ? Better safe than sorry :p

I have just tried the demo of RE7, so:
  • I'm pleasantly surprised that the demo runs smoothly (1080p, 30 FPS) despite my config being a bit old.
  • There are some really cool cinematographic effects, flashbacks, plays with lights, mirrors and shadows.
  • I could not finish the demo because I was too scared. First, the dolls which rotate when you don't look, and then the bloody horror and the shadows of moving stuff. Just too much.

does it match local currency?
What do you mean?

No Man's Sky #3

A game that has one of the lowest ratings on the store. We gamers sure are a gullible bunch aren't we... Well, I shouldn't include myself in that. I saw that coming a mile away ;P

Seems worth of its own thread I think.

4 Paradox games in the top40. Looks like their DLC policy is working fine.

I think the games are grouped (platinum, gold, silver...) but not ordered. If you reload, the order inside each group changes. That said, seeing NMS in the top group is...er... incredible.

I'm happy to see a lot of Paradox games in the list.

I like that the Steam Controller is randomly in there.

Great year for Firaxis. Even Civ V is still putting in work. Paradox, too. And yay for GOTY 2016 RimWorld making the charts.

A little disappointing that DOOM and Stardew didn't make it to the platinum territory, though still great to see both did so well. Life is Strange in the top 100 the year after release is also good to see, hopefully we can get another season after Vampyr.

It seems to be a regional ranking.

Oh I see. There should be an all regions list too, I think. Maybe JaseC can clear this up.
