LPVG: Update on Zelda BotW's release and Mother 3.

What is the likelihood of Wii Sports ever coming to Switch with motion control? I just really want the bowling game.
If the joycons function as Wiimotes and they continue releasing Wii games as part of the VC, I'll say the chances are good.

Though it's Nintendo, so, who knows?

To clarify my previous post, I see two scenarios regarding Zelda. Either a) Laura received bad info either about the delay or it making the Switch launch, which either way I would consider a blot on her previously spotless leaking record, or b) Nintendo delays Breath of the Wild for Europe, and I'll build a gaming PC instead of buying a Switch.

As for Mother 3, as with Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the Rabbids RPG: I'll believe it when I see it.

Stop playing with my feelings: I was expecting that Mother 3 announcement in E3 2016, the Nintendo said "lol no, we'll only show that game everyone wants and we are not going to release soon"

One thing to consider is that Nintendo doesn't consider Wii games on the Wii U eShop as Virtual Console titles, as there isn't true emulation happening a la Virtual Console titles. As such, it's very doubtful that these will transfer to the Switch's online storefront and Virtual Console library.

If the convenience of not needing to insert the disc, go into Wii Mode, and connect Wii Remotes for games with Classic Controller support (as those games can be played using the Wii U GamePad) is worth the standard $20 price point and you have no expectations of carrying over these purchases to the Switch's digital library, then don't worry about this point.

They're officially considered "Wii retail titles on Wii U."
Every time I see this point being ignored to fuel arguments, it needs to be corrected.

On the topic of Mother 3, I'll believe it when I see it. Until it's officially announced, an official English release doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned.

If Mother 3 is happening, they better release it on 3DS. Knowing Nintendo, they won't and I'll be as pissed like I was when they didn't release Earthbound on Wii for no reason.

If the switch is region free, why wouldn't you just import it if scenario b turns out true?

If the rumors are true and only the US version of Zelda is released on March and if the Switch is region free, I'm not going to wait till summer for EU release. My only option is to import the game from the US.

Shit.

...how is Emily right on Mother 3 when her tweet from last year specifically stated 2016?

We know it will eventually happen before the sun burns out so she could just keep saying she's right every year and eventually it'll come true.

Because LPVG says Mother 3 localization has been finished and sitting on a shelf for months.

Because Eurogamer and Nintendo World Report have said the localization is finished and sitting on a shelf.

I might be totally wrong on this, but I swear this has happened some long lost / unfinished games in the past.

Sure, but then it wouldn't be a remaster :P

Regarding Zelda in EU, I would be pretty surprised if it was actually delayed. It's more likely that localization was running behind and the source thought or heard it had been delayed. But they are obviously not that high up on the ladder, and it's feasible that either the plan changed or they were misinformed in the first place. It doesn't really reflect badly on the source or on Laura.

If you are going to take rumors and leaks seriously, you also have to be prepared for the inevitability that some of them will be wrong, or at least later corrected. People willing to start a shitstorm over this or to paint it as some ethical failure or attention whoring were just looking for a reason to be angry in the first place.

Kudos for her for being candid about her uncertainty and sourcing practices (although the mega post as a whole reveals that she is definitely someone still getting comfortable with the professional practice of journalism and the eagerness to share is definitely in conflict with vetting and sourcing and specificity of her claims). It was clear from the initial NX leak that she was speaking to people. What continues to be unclear is whether she has the discretion and skills to sort out conflicting or tentative info and only print things she has a high degree of certainty in.

Kudos also for her going out beyond the normal vague Nostradamus crap to make specific and disprovable claims instead of "I ThinK You Will Be Excite For January 12 I Know I Am Becauser I Knwo All The Hidden Secrets But I'm Not Telling But You Should Get Hyped!!! So To Speak!"

I would say that if Beyond Good and Evil 2 (exclusive to Switch for 12 months), Rabbids x Mario, and Mother 3 are not present in January 12th (and if "Pokemon Stars" and a Pikmin reboot aren't forthcoming in the next year) that would be a decisive blow as to her discretion. It doesn't mean she made it all up or that she didn't do her best to verify things, but it does mean that she doesn't have a system in place sufficient to merit the level of coverage she's getting. If, conversely, they are there, it will suggest that she has well-placed contacts and was reasonable in terms of her attempts to verify their claims. Several of these claims are purportedly double sourced, so this is definitely a swing for the fences in terms of credibility.

If she gets Rayman x Mario RPG right, I'll give her a pass on most anything else. That's by far the most out-there rumor that no one saw coming, and assuming it's real, is the least likely to miss the Jan 12th event, whereas I could easily see the other too being held for later

To be fair, GameBlog did report on a Yoshi x Rabbids crossover before Laura did.

Although they never mentioned that it was an RPG.

It seems pretty obvious it's happening. I think Ubisoft even teased it themselves.

It seems pretty obvious they were pulling the information out of their ass. They said the Switch would "Use a wireless dongle" said it was a Yoshi crossover and not Mario, and the rest were vague.

The report is full of bollocks so they probably got one source right inside of a ton of shit. Don't give them much credits.

I'm not giving GameBlog that much credit.

I'm just saying this Rabbids crossover rumor has been going on for awhile now.

I agree, which is my point

GameBlog was only a month before Laura and was far less detailed, as mentioned.

I'll give them credit for touching on it at least, but Laura really doubled down on it with the details.

Can't see this bring better than the fan translation

For real.

Here's a serious question: Why not just pay fornthe original fan translation? It's really good and it would be a lot cheaper than redoing it from scratch.

I really want to see how noa handles the magypsies

They'll fuck it up. They'll fuck it all up and add memes to it.

We couldn't get Captain Rainbow. We could even get Tingle's Rose-Colored Rupee Land in NA despite it being released in English in EU and being one of the best games on DS. Too gay, I guess.

They probably dont want to set a precedent where someone makes a fan translation patch for a game through dubious quasi-illegal channels and then paying said team for their work.

its the only explanation that I see here. They dont want to encourage others to work on Nintendo games "unofficially" thinking they might get the company's attention and even paid.

I legit wouldn't be surprised if this was their reason. The game is really pushing some boundaries and it's hilarious.

Dale's said Yoshi's one of the main stars of the game, so that might not have been too inaccurate.

The June rumor was always weird given how prominent BotW is in the marketing. You don't generally associate a game with a new system if it's going to take months for it to even release.

I remember Infamous Sexond Son, Titanfall, and Pikmin 3 being all over the marketing for the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

No. They messed up on the messaging. Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe have both done so.

Here's the original announcement.
Here is Nintendo showing the distinction:

Here's the last example I can find on Nintendo of America screwing it up on Twitter:

They've also screwed it up on Nintendo.com and store.nintendo.co.uk. You will not find similar screw-ups on Nintendo's Japanese digital presence.
Potato, potatoe.
Not quite. If there's any sort of Virtual Console transfer program, don't expect the Wii games you buy on the Wii U to be any part of it. Also, don't expect Wii Virtual Console titles, especially not at launch.

ughhh I hate when people do that.

As for Laura, I think she has good info. I guess we'll see. She definitely shouldn't have shared that june delay thing if she wasn't sure.

If there are downloadable Wii games on Switch, I DO expect them to be at least part of a discount program for those who bought them on Wii U. What I don't expect is for the discount to be as big as other games (I'm expecting something around half-price), but whether they're considered VC or not is irrelevant to the matter.
