LPVG: Update on Zelda BotW's release and Mother 3.

...how is Emily right on Mother 3 when her tweet from last year specifically stated 2016?

We know it will eventually happen before the sun burns out so she could just keep saying she's right every year and eventually it'll come true.

Because at the time she reported it, she was right. Plans changed. They withheld the game.

The initial rumor was that the game was being localized by NoE, but plans for a Wii U release probably changed (and this rumor was backed by Eurogamer no less). Now the rumor Emily and Laura have been hearing is that the localization was finished a while ago but is being saved for the Switch, which makes sense. I guess we'll see at E3.

had Earthbound not released on wii u VC they would have saved it for switch launch

why waste mother 3 on a dead console when you can save it for switch to generate hype

wasn't the Switch supposed to come out in 2016 originally? that could explain it

either way things change that we are not privy to

Regardless of which Zelda rumour is right, that's strike one for Laura.

That doesn't make any sense. If she got the June thing from multiple sources, and June ends up being wrong, clearly something changed within the company in the interim.

Laura has been extremely clear at every juncture of this process that none of her info should be taken as gospel. She's said this again and again.

lol, people are so weird with emily and laura

You gotta love how people who go out of their way to prove why Emily and Laura are liars (despite them being very open about how plans have simply changed, as is usual for Nintendo) are the people who never, ever have anything to say when their reports pan out completely.

Regardless of which Zelda rumour is right, that's strike one for Laura.

To be honest, the reports of Zelda getting pushed to later in the year always sounded like someone in the company hearing about how long localization was taking, knowing what other games were in the pipeline, and guessing that it might be delayed.

Those same people wouldn't necessarily know if Nintendo decided to bring on additional localization help to finish the game, especially if (for example) they contracted outside help.

If Mother 3 released on Wii U the ROM would have been easily dumped. This way it will likely be locked for quite some time.

Are there always this many rumours before a console comes out? I swear, we'll be getting rumours up to launch day for this fucking thing.

You know, that's not a bad thing to consider. Nintendo really hasn't gone after fan translations of games that weren't localized, and they're certainly well aware of Mother 3 as it is, so this would keep the game "exclusive" to them, in a manner of speaking.

The WiiU release was honestly quite similar, I'm not sure if there were quite this many, this close to release. But like the Switch, we had a pretty good idea of what "Project Cafe" was months before it was officially announced.

I mean, does it really matter? I'm sure it will be quality, but at the same time, I don't see it replacing the fan translation for the portion of the community who is willing to indulge in such things.

Wow, you have the autority to mark "strikes" for leakers ? Who gives a damn about this ? Maybe you want to show us your incredible skill and gives us better information than Laura, Liam, NateDrake and Emily ?

Correct me if wrong, but wasn't Mother 3 notoriously hard to code other languages into? Like i remember Tomato having that roadblock be his biggest enemy in the Mother 3 translation.

I also don't believe that Nintendo would still have the raw source code for a 10+ year old game, which they would need as there's no legitimate translation built into the code or whatever that they could just activate with a debug mode or what not.

So what I'm saying is that if this is true, maybe it's not just a straight port.

I really hope Laura's right about BOTW. I can't imagine any other game at launch will excite me as much as that would. Waiting till June wouldn't be the end of the world obviously, but I'm definitely eager to get my hands on it.

The fan translation is absolutely fantastic. I wonder how many memes will Treehouse manage to infect the game with.

  1. Rumour comes out
  2. People treat it as fact in all their arguments
  3. Plan change/rumour turns out false thus those people have egg all over their face
  4. Those same people get pissy with the original leaker

Well, seeing as Eurogamer mentioned last year that it was NoE doing the localization, very few?
Even if it is Treehouse, this myth that Treehouse fills their games with memes is ridiculous, as is the notion that memes are 100% forbidden, when they're a cultural reference like any other.

If we get both Zelda and Mario at launch I think we can safely call this the best launch line up ever, Nintendo or otherwise.

Somehow I doubt it'll happen, though.

Yeah, agreed. I've never heard that criticism before, and it strikes me as pretty strange.

Its just typical overraction and exageration because they did two or three meme references, especifically one meme in Triforce Heroes.

Oh, I'm with you 100% on that. It amazes me how much of a mountain is made out of an anthill when there's even whispers of incorporating a meme into a script.

My biggest hope is that they didn't sensor Mother 3. The fan translation was just about perfect.

I really can't see them doing anything to the content. Nintendo is comfortable with it being more of a T-rated series, as evidenced by Earthbound being re-rated to a T with no alterations for Wii U and Beginnings also carrying the rating.

Mother 3 would probably be the one exception I would make to purchasing a digital game from Nintendo. Not anymore though. Not sure if/when I will be getting a Switch, but I got sick of waiting for Mother 3 and ordered a translated GBA cart the week of Christmas.

It will be awesome if it does make it here, though, because Earthbound is a static top 5 game for me.

I am really happy Mother 3 will finally be officially released. But well, I played the game 10 years ago, replayed it in english and re-replayed it again so it is really hard for me to be personnally excited if it is a only a GBA rom. Well if it is translated in French I may be a bit excited by the prospect of re-re-re-replaying it.

For people saying "no Mother 4 because Itoi is done with the franchise", he said he would not do another one, but he also said he'd love to play a mother 4 made by someone else.
