This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Can you "refund" a Steam balance back to a gift card?

My little nephew got a $50 gift card for Christmas, loaded it into his account and then realized the game he wanted won't run on his computer before purchasing it.

Any chance that Steam will refund the $50 back onto the gift card?

Onto the gift card? Not sure. They usually just refund it to your Steam wallet.

Happy holidays amigos.

Silly one for ye here.

I got a bit of cash for Christmas so deciding to upgrade my rig.

Except name (and accompanying software) there's no difference between the various gtx1060s yeah? Like gigabyte and msi would be the same except software I assume.

Also there wont be any issue installing a msi card onto a gigabyte motherboard?

Is RE4 on the PS4 worth playing for someone who has never played it before, or are the GC or Wii versions better?
I was crazy hyped for it back before it released, but never got round to playing it.

I know the GC is still the best, but is the PS4 version still faithful enough to the original version?

Is there some kinf of dynamic audio controller on PS4? I had the same problem on my PS3, that games audio are just fine, but then DVD/BD/Netflix/etc. audio levels are very low. I tried to find something from the settings, but couldn't. Can I do anything about it?

I'd personally go with the Wii version. The pointer controls are perfect for the game. Although it makes the game a little easier. I haven't played the HD rerelease but they look to play identical to everything else although at 60 fps (except for reload animations oddly enough)

While we're on the topic of RE4, my gf got me the playstation gold headphones with virtual 7.1 surround for xmas. Since it's virtual, can they create surround sound for all titles? Or just games that actually have a surround setting in the menus? Should I even be using such settings with these headphones?

Edit: Can't find ant settings for audio in RE4 specifically, but the sound is really borked in the ps4 version. I could hear Luis banging on the door at the end of chapter 1 from the start of the area, but at max volume wherever I went.

Guys

If you could recommend me to buy a game, what would it be?

- Doom
- TitanFall 2 or
- Until Dawn

I want to buy Doom and TF2 but Im afraid it will be a First Person overkill.

Not sure if this is the right place, but my PS4 has been doing a weird thing.
It turns on by itself and then off immediately, which means next time I turn it on, the disk needs to be checked, or it's in safe mode.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Probably TF2 for now and pick up Until Dawn next Fall. Both are great games (I actually prefer the latter overall).

I have a possibly stupid gaming question which has been bugging me for a while.

There are some video games out there that command ridiculous prices (I'm talking tens of thousands of dollars/pounds) and the reason given for this is that there are only a handful of copies in existence.

My question is how does this happen? Why would a publisher print such a limited run to the point where there are literally only a single figure number of them in existence? How can this be profitable?

Digital Foundry did a nice video on the differences of each and which would be the best way to the game that resembles the original GC version. Its really interesting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRLQtgdG8Zs

The PC version with the added HD Textures is phenomenal, so i would recommend that. It also lets you toggle between GC textures or Capcoms HD Textures. If you don't have a PC i would recommend the GC version, since its in its original form. Just watch out cuz some of the ports do have things missing, like particles and rendering from the original. Its all in the video.

I bought Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 4 on my PC. It came with GOW collection and a $10 code of sorts. I found them once before on my account but can't find them now as I forgot where to look. Where can I find these codes on PC?

I was playing F.E.A.R. the other day, I like using the slow-mo and pretending like I'm Neo with the dual wielding pistols, really fun when your high. Some of interior combat areas have a bit of that Matrix industrial/office aesthetic. What ends up happening is that you find yourself surrounded by enemies about to run out of bullet time and if feels a lot like the lobby scene in the movie.

Anyway, are there any other games that are like the Matrix (bullet time effect), but not the Matrix (and not Max Payne).

My PS4 keeps ejecting disks constantly, over and over. Sometimes it beeps three times randomly... stops... and does it again days later.

Is my console already dead? I turned it off (no sleep mode) for days, unplugged it and it still does it.

Probably time to take it in to Sony. There's a temporary fix that requires you to take the cover off and mess with a screw. I had the same problem two years back.

The Max Payne games is the obvious answer.

Finally went back and beat TLOU: Remaster on Survivor and I'm wondering if I should bother with the platinum.

I don't even know if I can get it at this point if no one is playing multiplayer. Is it still active?

Hey I have a noob question : I plan to sell my PS3 to buy the Switch in a few months, and I have some games downloaded digitally (TLOU, Duck Tales Remastered, PES 2016, BGE HD...). Are those tied to my PSN account? Because ideally I'd like to keep them in my console to increase the value a bit, but if it's tied to the account I couldn't really do that.

Digital Downloads are tied to your PSN account.

So yea you can't, unless you give them your account.

Why is there always a thread complaining about every game that has been made? Clunky controls, incomplete game, poor AI, not intuitive.

The list goes on... maybe some people are just bad at playing the games. :p

Are Wario and Waluigi brothers?

Been a discussion over Christmas about it in our family. No one seems quite sure either way.
I'm not sure there's an official answer about this (I'm not even sure Nintendo embraces Waluigi that much, and I'm pretty sure they haven't said anything about this directly or in a 1st party game).

The only possible semi-official reference I've heard about this would be that a M&S olympic game said they weren't brothers, but I don't have the game so I can't confirm it's true.

This isn't exactly the same thing. But maybe try Superhot?

With regards to PC, does a Strict NAT type affect the type of players you're grouped up with? i.e. being grouped with those of the same NAT settings?

I know you can share games between PS4s with the same psn account if you make one device as the primary PS4. But how can you actually play the same game together on the same account? My cousin finally got a PS4 but he doesn't have PS+ and we really wanna play Bloodborne coop. I know I'm missing something but I can't figure out what it is. Do I have to create another user? I've seen a couple of threads asking the same thing but I kinda always ignored them. Until now lol.

If I loved Final Fantasy XV (and I really did!), is it worth playing through 1-14? I usually like to do full series playthroughs but I'm not sure about the time investment for every main FF.

Will Breath of the Wild be available on the eShop on day one? I've never purchased from the eShop, but I assume they have day-one relases?

Since I'm not yet able to create my own thread, thought I'd put my thoughts and dilemma here.... ;)

Like Titanfall 2, Nier: Automata is destined to BOMBA simply because it's releasing in the same window as Horizon ZD; One week later, to be specific. And they're pretty much neck and neck when it comes to theme and genre...

Nier Automata:
Humanity has been driven from the Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to take back the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on... A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth of the world.
Horizon Zero Dawn:
Take on the role of skilled hunter Aloy as you explore a vibrant and lush world inhabited by mysterious mechanized creatures. Embark on a compelling, emotional journey and unravel mysteries of tribal societies, ancient artifacts and advanced technologies that will determine the fate of this planet, and of life itself.
<.< >.> <.<

But we all know Sony will push the ever living shit out of advertising for Horizon. I want both of them, I'm just kinda on the fence on which one to jump on first. :P Sure wish they'd drop a demo for Horizon.

Any suggestions on which one to play first? Or more importantly (for me), which one do you think will drop in price quicker?

What the other poster said. VIII, X and XII should be easy to start with, too. I'd say start with whatever looks most interesting to you. They all have their merits and weaknesses. Well maybe don't start with I-III, they can be a bit harder to get into. IX relies and plays with clichés of the series, so it might not be the best to start with even though it's very enjoyable.

Definitely worth playing through a good few of them. I'd disagree on starting with VI, personally it's my favourite (bar IX) and I think it's the best in the series but I don't think it's a good idea to start with it. I'd say start with VII and move onto VIII and IX (in whichever order you prefer).

Another questions about animation.

If I'm creating a gif out of a sprite sheet, how many milliseconds should I set for the speed of each frame if the game runs at 60fps?

I used 16ms and it is too fast.

Playstation A : Set as primary for your account. Your cousin plays using his own PSN account.

Playstation B: You play using your own PSN account.

Bingo.

Edit : if he's the one that owns bloodborne, you'll have to make Playstation B primary with his account.

I found that I can only set up in centiseconds, and my viewers ignore/misinterprete 10ms for some reason. So, you can't. 20ms is all you can do, welcome to PAL.

Final Fantasy makes it easy to pick and choose mainline entries to play since none of them are connected story-wise. There are several different "styles" of FF games depending on the time of their release, so I'll recommend just one from each.

VI (more like this: IV and V)
VII (more like this: VIII, IX)
XII (more like this: X)

I-III are similar to VI, but so early that they're very much an acquired taste by now, tough to recommend.
XI and XIV are numbered entries, but they're MMOs, so they're obviously very different structurally from the "proper" singleplayer games and I personally have never played them. I hear the newest version of XIV is supposed to be serviceable.

Do I risk something in the long term using my xbox360 horizontally?

I'm pretty sure horizontally is better than vertically - you don't cover any vents and there's less chance of the disc scratching. It depends if you're putting it on a hard surface or on carpet, but I'm assuming you're not doing the latter. The bigger issue is dust - try and keep it somewhere where it won't get all dusty and you'll be fine.

Howdy doody.

I recently acquired a new monitor and having an issue.

The HDMI input is working fine and dandy, the dvi input isn't.

Is there anything I need to do to fix this or possible repair job?

Has anyone experienced any problems with the Wii U refusing to read discs. It just started refusing to read Smash after having a cracked looking copy of Endless Ocean in it. I keep getting "invalid disc".

I'm torn between whether to get Xbox One S or Playststion 4 S. Both have exclusives I want though there are more that I want from PlayStation. However, half of my friends got Xbox and I could more easily play multiplayer games with them... why can't cross platform gaming be a thing already? Why can't I play COD, FIFA, blah blah blah multiplatform multiplayer gameswith friends on any system? I hope Rocket League's success shows developers that they need to make their games cross platform playable... do you guys think that'd be the future? We've gone from lots to console specific exclusives now to lots of games being on multiplatform. Now the next step is to make it cross platform playable...

Do you think if Switch has a Virtual Console, they'll bring Kill Switch to it?
