When should Zelda: Breath of the Wild release in Europe?

So, what changed? Multiple sources close to Nintendo have now told Eurogamer that, at the end of last year, Japan finalised its plans and had a change of heart: Switch needed the strongest possible launch lineup. In short, Zelda will release in March in North America and Japan. Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear.

One source tells Eurogamer that Japan had always wanted the game to launch in March, and had been uncomfortable waiting until later. Another source says the decision to move ahead with March regardless of Europe was only finalised by committee at the end of last year.

Also key was the desire within Nintendo for the game - first announced for Wii U back in 2013 - to launch in as perfect condition as possible. The lack of Zelda at the Switch's launch could also be mitigated by Nintendo's new 3D Mario, development of which was effectively complete and ready for a March arrival.

Fuck em, if true.

Edit: This is Nintendo, not some indie or AA studio. How can this be not translated ? Cartridges maybe a problem?

I'd be pretty shocked if EU doesn't get the game alongside everyone else.

The more interesting info for me is the fate of 3D Mario at launch. I assume it's being pushed back a month or two. Hopefully it's not being thrown all the way back to Holiday 2017.

I mean, it IS more work to release a game in Europe isn't it? Sounds like they just didn't want to delay it in all regions just to match up to Europe and would rather try to use it to get as much sales as possible for the other launches.

I don't blame Euro fans for being pissed but I don't see anything bad here. Though I guess they should have done whatever they needed to do to make sure all regions get it at launch.

I'll import if it isn't for launch, I understand localising in Europe takes a lot of resource but it's only text, there isn't much spoken dialogue in this one, right?

Just embarrassing if that's true.
One of the top publishers on this planet isn't able to release one of their major top IPs worldwide at the same time? lol.

I trust NoE in the sense that they surely want to avoid a regional disaster in sales and they will provide access to Zelda one way or another.

Release the English version just on eshop only if you must go for the worst scenario.

It will be there at launch in Europe. No way will Nintendo set a bad precedence at the launch of their new system. Not even Nintendo is that stupid.

As European this would be a kick in the nuts.

Albeit all rumours point to Switch being RF, so I could import.

FFS NoE, get your shit together.

and this also:

"How we can make sure, that Zelda sales are still good then in the EU, when it will release in the future ?"
- "Let's implement Region Locking to be sure."

What seems strange to me is that normally Nintendo localizes these kind of games while they are still in development. I remember reading about that in an Iwata Asks.

Oh the joys of having to import a console and games for twice the price in order to avoid the mandatory 6 month delay for EU.

Good times.

Fuck them so hard if they delay the EU release until summer or some shit. I thought we were past this bullshit.

The Switch is rumored to be region-free, so you may not have to worry about importing a foreign Switch.

It's more work, yes. But this is Zelda. It's not like there are thousands of long dialogues that need to be translated. It's just text...

Remember, unclear does not mean "OH MY GOD, THEY HAVE DELAYED IT. THE ASSHOLES"

That's kinda what it means though, otherwise it wouldn't be unclear. It sure isn't unclear for other regions.

I'm not mad, we'll probably get something else instead.

Seems like the Switch going to be a return to the glory days of Nintendo - where us Europeans had to wait fucking months if not years to get the same games as the rest of the world. I hope they bring back 50HZ, huge black borders and 17.5% slowdown to really keep it real!

It's NoE we're talking about. If there's a way to fuck this up, they'll find it,

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Now lets see if the Switch truly is totally Region Free, eh.

Also should be noted this is evidence based on insiders. For all we know said insiders just don't know. Less "Eurogamer: Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear" and more "Eurogamer: We don't have any facts about Zelda's launch in Europe".

It's not like Nintendo itself issued a release schedule with BotW listed at TBA under Europe.

Remember, unclear does not mean "OH MY GOD, THEY HAVE DELAYED IT. THE ASSHOLES"

And even if it isn't out in March they still have not delayed it. NOE (and NOA) have only ever said 2017 while NCL (via CoroCoro) have only said Spring 2017.

But, yeah if it comes out in Europe significantly later than the US that will be annoying. Won't mean much if Switch really is region free as the rumours say though (PLEASE, NINTENDO).

Unless there is some weird reason no one can think of, it'll be region free, we've seen the CE markings on jimmy fallon
