Steven Universe |OT4| Every Rose Has Its Thorns

So for the past week I've been thinking about how one would go about making a shot for shot remake of Jojo Stardust Crusaders openings with Steven Universe characterseason while keeping in some semblance of symbolism. I don't think know my drawing skills are quite up to participate enough to actually accomplish this.

I wonder if our Pearl was White Diamond's Pearl.

I think it could be Pink Diamond for no other reason other proximity to earth.

I've been avoiding the thread for fear of spoilers, but are all the new eps out *somewhere*?

The first episode, Steven's Dream, is available right now on the Cartoon Network app and website if you log-in with a cable subscription. I highly recommend it watching it, since it gets the arc off running with a very strong start.

You might also have all five episodes available through On Demand depending on your cable provider. Comcast/Xfinity doesn't have them all anymore, but I think I remember reading that Dish Network might still have them?

But yes, you can find all of the rest of the episodes online through...unofficial means if you search. Many of the big scenes are already on YouTube, so stay very far away from YouTube unless you want spoilers.

Yup all 5 are out. You can even watch the first one legit on the Cartoon Network app. If you can't wait for CN to release the rest (1 new episodes every week on the app) you can find the rest on google, dailymotion, tumblr, etc....

I'm also thinking white diamond just based on her color but that raises the question of why her space suit had a pink diamond emblem on it.

so what major gems are we still missing in the mix ?

emerald maybe?

Everything about White Diamond is such a big enigma. While I know that the Crewinverse have previously stated there are "no pure villains" in this series, I do wonder why we haven't heard much from this figurehead in the series.

I wonder if the Diamond ships being shaped like anatomy means anything. Maybe they all combine to form Voltron?

I'm rather fond of an idea I read where the temple statue fusion actually represents the four diamonds fused, and their fused persona is the -actual- leader of Gem civilization. And without PD, they can no longer come together as their true leader.

I know I shouldn't expect it, but it does sort of bother me that there's not clear sense of how far it takes to travel between the stars. Like,
Yellow Diamond made it from wherever she was to the zoo in probably a little over the day, but they've still only ever bothered to send five rubies to check on Peridot and Jasper? If travel around the galaxy is that quick what's the cost of sending a ton of gems to check things out?

We've already heard of an Obsidian (Snowflake, from Bismuth's list of Crystal), but that's a big one that we haven't seen onscreen yet..

Both of the other gem types she mentioned have already appeared by this point; (Biggs) Jasper is obvious, and we saw a Holly Blue Agate as part of this bomb.

Crazy Lace Agate is another one she mentioned

Maybe she doesn't think it's that big of an urgent matter to attend to? That's my guess, anywho.

Leak spoilers, kind of
For all Yellow Diamond knows a defective Peridot crashed her hand-ship on Earth before she went native and got blown up by the Diamond communicator, Jasper's operating with some level of autonomy and likewise doesn't have an easy method of communication without a ship. Corrupted Gems could have messed with Peridot's machines, for all they know.

Consider also: Rubies are disposable. Who does Yellow Diamond half-assedly send to look for Jasper on an abandoned backwater? A bunch of Rubies with quirks that make them hard to trust with significant missions, from aimless newbies who have trouble even remembering what their mission was to veterans who would be better off not informing Era-2 gems about the details of the war. It's a win-win for her; either she gets Jasper back or some defective Rubies get picked off by whatever humans or corrupted Gems were screwing with the Kindergarten. Or the Cluster emerging, for that matter.

I'm pretty sure that's it. They still think the cluster is going to destroy the planet and can't be stopped, also they seem to have sort of a superiority complex and like to act like they won the battle on Earth (even though they lost). All the enemy gems play down Earth's victory and I think they mostly ignore it as an embarrassment or a problem they don't want to deal with.

I think they also underestimate Earth greatly, it's an afterthought for them. Plenty of other planets out there for them, I'm sure.

New Episode Spoiler:

I get that the Diamonds have little regard for the Gems under them, but given the apparent high ranking of the Sapphires, and our Sapphire betrayed her, right in front of her, I feel like Blue Diamond should have recognized her.

Most gems look the same, even in-universe.

That was over 6000 years ago. I doubt she was the only Sapphire to rebel. And besides if you aren't looking for it, in her mind she's corrupted on earth, you're not gonna see it. Plus Sapphire has reformed since.

Well ... they did win.
All CGs other than like 3/4 were corrupted and the planet was gonna be turned into a shell to birth some Geo-weapon fusion out of the shattered remains of the CGs and HW forces on earth.

Only recently was this cherry-on-top part over turned (not by Rose but by Steven) and they still don't know it.

Well, would your remember a person that worked under you 4-5k years ago?
Even Yellow had to ask "Which Peridot" when she called her.

Anyway ... I have to ask.
WHO THE FUCK ARE THE DIAMONDS AT WAR WITH!?!?
Random civil war outbreaks like the CGs? I always assumed that Rose falsely expanded the scope of her rebellion when all she cared about was really the earth were as some others clearly wanted to take down the diamond authority. Are they fighting a different race of beings? Or just random life forms in the universe that they come across so that they can dick around with their planet? But how come humans seem so interesting and special if they have come across other beings that can rage war against them?

Or maybe the Diamonds are like a family and wars are just them having disagreements with each other until someone wins and everything chills out.

Really late to the party but I watched Gem Harvest. What a waste of a premium episode. On paper it could have been a good. They had plenty of time to flesh out Andy but in the end he was a caricature with some forced moments. Also felt like they were checking some things off thematically speaking. Also, I know it was probably a stylistic choice but the characters looked pretty off at times.

Three Gems and a Baby is half as long but utilizes its time way more effectively. Though it does have it issues. (Particularly how contrived everything around Rose's transformation into Steven is. When you think about it.)

Just watched Steven's Dream.
Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

While I don't doubt the possibility of gemkind being at war with another species, I feel like adding such a detail would only convolute the story. I mean, the army and weapons seem like your standard tools of universal domination. Without them, there would be no way to expand the gempire. Plus, gem kind needs those other planets for resources. Based on peridot's explanation, HW is running low on resources to make gems with abilities. (although this may just be a lie from the diamonds since peri ended up having metal bending powers she didn't know about)

You answered your own question.

They are conquerors, they're at war with every species in the universe since they're out to just conquer and form new colonies.

Sugar was a HUGE invader Zim fan, so the gems/diamonds are like a serious version of the Irk, i mean, you think the diamonds being in charge and also bigger than everyone was a coincidence?

Oh god of course. Peridot is Zim! It makes so much sense.

I think the answer is a silly visual pun myself - where does most jewelry go ? on the fingers in the form of rings so - hand ships.

See I mean you could argue the neck or the ears are also popular jewelry spots but neck and ear ships are kind of silly , less visually interesting than hands.

Steven's Dream
Blue Diamond reminded me a lot of Vicar Amalia for some reason.

I totally agree! I can't get over how much I LOVE
Blue Diamond's voice and mannerisms. I didn't know how much I wanted Bloodborne/Souls characters in Steven Universe until now
. It's like I'm finally getting the fusion I didn't know I wanted.

Judging from the large ships we've seen I'm assuming that they're all hands with varying lengths of arm. The Diamond's ships being the most complete.
