Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

At the time I was playing, I was doing a ton of running around and eventually it lead me to the first ladder that you could descend down from. At this point had no idea where to go and wondered if I needed to jump across to the other platform. Therefore, I decided to check and I found two separate guides online telling me to jump across using the attack in midair to reach there. After failing a bunch of times, I went back to check and another guide explained that I needed to use this same method...

You aren't supposed to get to that platform until you've already been where it leads - your second link kinda tells how to get to the headlights normally, then talks about a "second path to the item" which involves doing the special warp-jump (which bypasses the dungeon's designed intention). Basically, you're supposed to fall all the way down, defeat the snake boss, climb all the way back up from there (involving crossing a pipe). That puts you back on the first level of the dungeon but a new section of it you couldn't get to before. From there you have access to where the headlights are, and also to the second platform (walking onto it from behind, not jumping onto it) which lets you lower the ladder as a "shortcut" back down to the depths.

Wait, that shit about Safay Roth was legit? I thought that was just a joke. Final Fantasy XV really is an amalgam of previous Final Fantasy games lol

I have to be honest though, that's really close to the line where it's too much and almost sounds like fan-fic or a joke post on GAF, like "After Nomura left some characters were changed and replaced. This is FFXV's new heroine, Estéll Laahr.", lol. I didn't believe it at first either. But I guess they left it out because they felt the same maybe?

However I generally like all the other allusions to the really old FFs as a modern take on some of the classic tropes. There's a ton of them:

Was probably already shared here but here's some Insomnia exploration by day:

I'm so mad reading some of these.

Cor Leonis's name is based on a Latin phrase that literally means "heart of the lion", or "lion's heart"

Come on man, lol

to be fair, many of those allusions are realllllly stretching it though. many of them amount to "yeah... kinda sorta, if you squint your eyes and ignore some context" sorta thing.

also many of them are just use of common tropes rather than direct allusions too :/

Allusions to the number fifteen
- The maximum number of photos Prompto can take is 150.

lol

Speaking of which, does it bother anyone else that there have been 113 kings before Noctis, which makes Noctis 114?

Dammit, you had one number you were supposed to make allusions to, and you screwed it up!

Isn't that still an allusion? I mean, this is probably the second time in my life using that word in English, but apparently it can mean "a casual reference", which I'd say fits most of the mentioned things. Or what do you mean?

lol

Okay, lol, that one I agree is a stretch. Haven't seen that a few days ago.

Finally got this

Will be able to evaluate the OST on its own. It was used quite badly & sparingly in the game outside of combat themes and some rest place/city themes. Already listened to the Piano Arrangement extra disc and that is wonderful.

its just that a lot of the "allusions" on that wiki aren't actually references, their similar tropes or story devices. Sharing traits isn't in and of itself an allusion even if its within the same series or IP. if that were the case, then basically ever sitcom would be completely full of allusions of seinfeld or every shounen adventure anime would be full of allusions to fist of the north star, but that isn't the case.

allusions are usually purposeful and used to be a nice wink and nudge to a prior work or other work.

basically: similar =/= allusion regardless of IP

Ardyn is basically Jesus + Lucifer. He was to be the "king of kings", traveled around to heal the sick and cast out demons, but also fell out of favor with the higher power and was cast down from his place, becoming a lord of demons. Not doubt this was intentional, given "Lucifer" means "lighter-bearer". Kinda really dig this symbolism, and would've loved had they delved MORE into Ardyn's backstory (as in, actual flashbacks). They could've hinted at something when Ardyn stays with you before the trek to the Disc, maybe have Noctis have a vague dream about Ardyn's past, but not knowing what it meant at the time.
Noctis himself is a Christ parallel of sorts, especially in the campfire scene at the end, which recreates Jesus telling his friends goodbye, knowing that a higher power told him he has to die so the world can be saved.

Indeed. It does help you see through the agendas / whines of certain posters though lol

How is this 'modeled' though? Most of it is completely flat or unrendered, it's not explorable, and amounts to just a pretty backdrop for the final fight.

I think what they mean is it is all in world at a realistic scale (for most of it) and actually modelled in world and not just propped up with a few background elements and then a skybox. Like you can fly to the walls, and get up high enough to see the entire city without actually just clipping into a void after a few hundred meters and then seeing the skybox models way off in the distance at miniature figurine size.

The latter part of the video shows that several buildings are like the Forza cutout style:

w/e, my struggles have made me a dungeon expert

it builds character

So finally got back to this game after a month away (was away over Christmas) and god, I am so over this. Every single sidequest is meaningless bullshit aside from the dungeons, and there aren't enough of those. And Christ alive I'd forgotten how absolutely abysmal the camera is. Until they start patching stuff I probably won't be playing this for a while :/

The Ultimania released recently in Japan.

Does it mention anything about how Prompto got out? Were his adoptive parents who then abadon him a few years late ex-scientists that worked on the clones? Did newborn/newclone Prompto do sick back flips and gun tricks to escape? Were his parents from Insomnia? How come he got to live inside the crown city in a nice house despite being foreign? If his adoptive parents were from Insomnia how did they get to him and adopt him? If they were from outside how did they get a nice house and get him in a nice school district and not get ignored like everywhere outside the city?

The whole Prompto backstory shit is just annoying and bullshity just for the sake of "shocking twist!" which literally means NOTHING because of course his best friends he grew up with since he was a kid still like him!

I know, it will be in the DLC, he will find out in his DLC that "zomg I'm a clones?!" and then have his Vivi like existential crisis before getting tied up by a kinky Ardyn to be bait. But the whole bit about him being in Insomnia from as a child and being adopted yet not showing any signs of parents in his home at all in his very own Brotherhood episode just seems stupid as fuck. Like, it's one thing to hide character development and backstory in external media, another to hide it in fucking single sentences or graphs in strategy guides and another thing to have it not make sense at all.

From the looks of it, Insomnia was never meant to be explorable but part of Nifleheim was supposed to be.

I bring your attention to the word 'agenda'.

You seem to be using that when you actually mean 'opinion'.

Skyboxes don't work in certain situations - accurately representing geometry of a city from just out of reach all the way to a perceived distance of a few kilometers is definitely one of them, especially in a use-case with as much vertical movement as the Ifrit fight has.

This is pretty much how I feel. I left the adamantoise trophy and the skill ones left on my list and I'll get to them sometime to platinum the game but this whole "what could have been" really leaves me extremely bitter.

The last hunter quest with the "witch" was actually pretty well done and something more akin to WRPG side-quest. It was still a simple fetch quest but the storytelling behind it felt somewhat substantial.

Just done a quest where Ignis has his glasses stolen by a chocobo.
Wouldn't bother m8, wont need em much longer anyway

Cold-blooded!

Edit: Also... Come on Falk! No Prelude in the OST. Come on bro!

Been reading up on more recent reviews from more casual sites and newspaper (sites). All pretty positive all around. Really happy with how it seems the mainstream are really digging it and are looking for "other JRPGs like it."

Edit 2: I posted this on Twitter, but I am going to be posting any day now my ranking of every song in the OST (and Prelude), with a brief point of what I think of the piece and what works/doesn't work. I do have to say... Placing my top 35-40 tracks in the OST is harder than I thought it would. There are some tracks I absolutely adore. I've never loved this many tracks in a FF game before. I love all the FF OSTs but never this many.

Ardyns backstory is so fucking funny.

"Here Ardyn, use this gift we gods are giving you to heal the sick and absorb their daemon energy"
"Cool thx"
...
...
"Omg Ardyn you've become so corrupt by absorbing all that daemon energy we gods h8 you now"
"..."

Also I just beat the game today and:
Why do we not get to see aged Iris/Cidney
Why do I feel like I have to watch a prequel movie to understand shit in the game
Why did this game that took +10 years to make STILL get content cut
Why is the translation regards Prompto being an MT so bad
Why is it still a good game despite all these flaws

Fuck...

I've played so much FFXV that it's actually leaving burn in on my Panny Plasma because of bottom right health bar, which is taking more and more time actually go away...

I figured that maybe I should just remote play it on the couch. My windows tablet is has an AMOLED screen...

Damn it!

Maybe Quantom Dot is a for sure thing this year for me rather than an LG OLED...

I don't know, Falk. There are a lot of posters who are delighting in every shred of FFXV deleted material found and / or leaked documents (that may be complete BS) to bash the game because it didn't match their 'vision'. Their agenda seems to be find anything that the game did wrong (not bothering to keep in mind that many games have tons of assets that go unused) to validate their opinion and to make sure why people who love the game are 'fooling' themselves.

I suspect Nomura himself is lurking here!

I can see why Too Much is Never Enough plays during the credits but I really wish they were able to fit in their outstanding Prelude theme in game somewhere. I Will Be should have been in game as well because it is such a powerful song. Sadly, I can't think of a place it could work.

There's also a lot of posters who'll defend the game to the end. It works both ways.

I don't think there's an agenda so much as there is people with strong opinions about the game.

Just beat this a few days ago...some quick thoughts and critiques:
Chapter 9 onward to the ending was just a mess. I really felt like more narrative featuring Ravus and Ardyn should have been done to elaborate on what their goals were.
After you leave the lighthouse--that should have been an equivalent to what taking the boat from Junon was in FF7. Should have been multiple more continents to explore and fly over to in the Regalia. Just "visiting" them by train was such a disappointment. Even if they would have been small islands or areas to explore it still would have been an improvement.
Chapter 13 was the worst Dead Space game i've ever played. Seriously they should have just given Noctis a plasma cutter. By far my least favorite part of the game. And the World of Ruin....what a missed opportunity. Reuniting with the bros and doing hunts/exploring the world of ruin would have been AWESOME. Should have taken it full FF6 and made a full separate world. Overall I loved the game but really wish they would have expanded it from just the main continent. Maybe they will in DLC--I hope so.

thats because now we can claim that it was obvious proof that we were sold an unfinished product

because something something tabata also back then nomura

(and Ardyn is wearing scruffy modernish clothes that people don't comment on, so it's not likely the same clothes he wore 2000 years ago).

Apparently, they actually were. Though that could just be a contrivance to keep him recognisable for that artwork - it's still a concept depicting his backstory in general terms. In any case, I agree that the physical resemblance would easily be shrugged off in that scenario, at least where human society is involved; but there are still aspects like the lack of visible aging that would have benefited from being addressed in some background fluff.

Edit: Also... Come on Falk! No Prelude in the OST. Come on bro!

At least it was in one of the soundtrack releases; but the omission from the main OST is almost as strange as the way it was used ingame. (Also, I didn't realise until now that Suzuki was responsible for that track as well - considering what he delivered for XV, I hope this won't be the last of the series' soundtracks he'll work on.)

I Will Be should have been in game as well because it is such a powerful song. Sadly, I can't think of a place it could work.

Random exploration theme, maybe? Like Too Much Is Never Enough, there are kind of a shortage of sequences that it'd fit alongside. The easiest thing to do would be an ingame "Songs from Final Fantasy XV" CD, which would at least allow the Florence songs to have some more presence.

I think if you went back in time to 16AD and found someone who looked like Obama or Putin or Michael Jackson your first instinct would be to have a sensible chuckle about the coincidence, rather than 'holy shit this guy lived for 2000 years'.

I'm hoping we get word on some specific release window for the DLC and patches soon.

I meant more in the sense of him not aging in the 30 years he worked for Niflheim, not resembling a hypothetical attributed record of his likeness as a mortal; which would be a massive leap without outside context. Though a couple of background nods to there being in-universe conspiracy theories about him being a vampire or something like the Keanu Reeves thing, might have been cute.

I suspect he told the Emperor about himself in some capacity in order to gain his trust. Of course, he probably left out the part about the Empire become daemon central.

As for his looks, he doesn't look THAT young and may have passed himself off as a 'young' 55 as the years passed.

Or perhaps he can use the Starscourge to alter his physical appearance as needed.

I just did the regalia headlights quest where you have to go through that dungeon...

That was truly awful and an example of some of the shit that SE did in this game that really pisses me off. Every time when I'm having a great time with the game, something comes up to spoil that.

My issues wasn't in the difficulty or all the confusing multiple paths. I was fine with that. My anger is directed at that fucking stupid ass jumping that you need to get to the other side. I'm glad that I for some reason decided to look at a guide for some reason (I haven't used one on any of the other dungeons yet).

From there I knew that I had to use a weapon attack to make the jump...

The problem for me was that you had to get lucky on the timing of hitting the attack button because you can't go too early or too late. Not to mention, I'm pretty there are weapons you try to use and NEVER be able to make the jump with. I had to repeat this jump over 25 times and I wasted way too time doing this and now I don't even feel like playing anymore.

Bonus: I also hated how the game automatically had you leap off the railing each time if you barely got close to it causing you to descend to the next floor. That's some fucking stupid shit.

Thanks SE.

I agree that dungeon was fucking terribad, spent several hours stuck on that quest myself

So I got a platinum (my first since Demon's Souls)… Thoughts:

- When can we expect the DLC?

- Story idea is interesting, execution is disconnected.
- Individual scenes are decently conjured, not greatly acted, and poorly tied together.
- The world needed more verticality downward (not talking caves).
- I love the idea of the Religalia-F to open up more. It's not given the upgrade-potential it should but I actually liked the way it controlled (a little faster maybe). Landing is fun and would be totally perfect risk/reward if the craft were faster and you gained something for flying.
- Back on story, the antagonist is the best character if only for adopting a stronger tone. When I say that I realize I mean he was a stronger personality and just barely a 'character'. I never touched down with any of the protagonist nor his love nor his buddies.
- Music options while playing/driving needed a SPOTIFY integration button
- The battle system is one of my favorites ever. It's flexible, fast, and demands attention and different strategies in a way that penalizes a player but doesn't waste their time. I'm at the cusp of calling it my 'favorite ever'. There's a reason I played this game this so long.
- Sidequests could've taken an extra step from the Xenoblade 'complete on first step' idea. No need to go back to the quest giver sometimes. Suppose the day/night cycle is a consideration.
-Sidequests felt archetypal in terms of who gave the quest and dry plot-wise (huge meh). The battle system kept me going.
- Lack of fucking towns? Huge disappointment.
- The towns are SO boring.
- They have no personality.
- I like the pit stops but they have zero personality.
- Nothing in the air?
- Fuck maplessness of the post-game dungeons. It's pointless.
- End Boss is pretty great. I really liked the mix of bosses and styles. It didn't feel like 'introduction to new elements' shit - just a cool honing in.
- Loved the hiking (wanted more!)
- Really enjoyed the skills. This system can be improved on in the future too. Great first stuff.
- No outfits or am I missing something?

Anyway, this is mostly criticism but I enjoyed playing this game for 100 hours and am floored that it came together after so long. The battle system really hits the notes for me and while my complaints are large, I kept playing. My takeaway is that this is the right direction and that hopefully the series is going to take another step.

Also again: DLC? When?

So happy this game is doing so well. I'm sure Square Enix is pretty excited with how it is doing with the constant announcements. Probably my Game of the Year. Glad to see/know so many have been enjoying it. Now I just need them to churn out these patches and the dlc episodes..

Top Bottom
