Time for Kamiya to take a leave of absence. If I were him, I would make a small statement to address the fans and then vanish. The guy needs a break and this is the type of stuff that will really weigh you down.
Probably as disappointed as MS.
"We are so disappointed we have to cancel your game. Please understand".
Nier ads don't target people that know about Nier?
.
Lot of people here instantly made the connection. It doesn't even make sense. Troll a platinum cancellation with a platinum game.
Next week. In game magazines.I wonder how Kamiya is doing.
It makes perfect sense. "Wanna play a Platinum game (and don't have old hardware or PC)? Yeah, better buy a PS4." And their description mentions avoiding the game equivalent of mercy kill.
They could be playing up Drakengard connection as well, it's perhaps what allowed the picture to get released, but the timing is very important here. Social media is all about timing.
Yeah...Sure. 😒It makes perfect sense. "Wanna play a Platinum game (and don't have old hardware or PC)? Yeah, better buy a PS4." And their description mentions avoiding the game equivalent of mercy kill.

I hope that demo helps. I know personally, I wasn't even looking at Nier until I played that demo and fell in love.

Yep. Sucks for both sides. The money MS threw at it probably hurt like hell to cancel it.

FFXV can't catch a break. Being dragged in this mess.Yeah, no.
I was super hyped after initial reveal, but the second showing was bad. This looks rough, even rougher than I remembered.
And also a lot closer to FFXV in terms of art direction than I remember.
Who knows, maybe FFXV is actually a factor in this mess.
Dude, stop. It's not a dig at Scalebound no matter how you slice it.
You're just digging a deeper hole by doubling down. Just say that you didn't know about the very obvious Drakengard connection and just take the L.

I doubt it
The money had already been spent and accounted for. They had already budgeted it and was included in the expenses of the previous years
Instead MS got to free some money that would have been earmarked for scalebound in 2017. Basically free money to the game division
MS is not an individual who remembers that they spent some money on scalebound years ago. Once their budget for 2016 got closed, they forgot about it
Wow.I doubt it

Wow.
What is this thread.
This post makes zero sense.

Microsoft is not a person, gamz.
They're trying to "troll" Microsoft, not Platinum. There have been countless examples of community managers (especially in smaller regions) posting misguided snarky comments whenever the competitor made an unpopular move.Lot of people here instantly made the connection. They don't target them exclusively. Obscure references aren't how you get new people interested in niche series.Nier ads don't target people that know about Nier?

The game was originally due for release in 2016 though and got delayed by a whole year, so they're not getting any money back on the project unless Platinum came in under budget through the original timeline.
You do realise sunk cost is just money you've spent you can't get back?He/she not wrong except maybe the part about free money, because it's a bit more complicated than that.
Google "Sunk cost"
Have to wonder if Platinum got paid at all if they were missing milestones tho

I am certain that Xbox division doesn't feel like that and hasn't felt like that all generation.Oh poor Microsoft for spending money they can't get back. I'm pretty sure this is how they feel right now.

Not indeed at all. The project will have a defined change management process and termination clauses.Indeed. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. In which case, I can't really blame them from a business perspective. But sure, the game looked like it had potential underneath the mess that it probably became. I know I had high hopes for it.

There's no free/forgotten money about it. It was a failure.

You do understand that there's not always some golden middle road in life that is the absolute truth? It's possible that one side is entirely in the wrong, maybe not in cancelling the project but how they handled that. If all the twitter murmur is true, this was all on Microsoft abusing their power as the publisher. Maybe there were some problems with development but good publishers try to help devs through those troubles, not just fuck up development with unreasonable milestones and refusing to budge when creators ask to make some changes to the game that would help them finish it.Indeed. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. In which case, I can't really blame them from a business perspective. The Xbox division isn't a separate company. They are apart of one of the largest companies in the world.

Scalebound was apparently trending globally yesterday, and we're talking about social media here. The post's a product of its moment. It won't make much sense otherwise.
I wonder how will people try to figure out this blog post from Pi Foundation without looking up the date or noticing tags within a year or two.
So instead you reference a obscure/niche game most people don't care or even know about?
Folks are trying to make something out of nothing.
I wonder how Kamiya is doing.
Microsoft was really lucky with Sega bowing out of the hardware race when they did, them and Tecmo alone are probably 80% of the Xbox's Japanese lineup.Well aware of that. I guess my post wasn't very clear and kind of snipe-y. MS did make a clear effort on the original Xbox, but TFLO was a real fuck-over for JRPG fans like me. Literally zero worthwhile JRPG exclusives came out on the original Xbox. TFLO was a major reason I purchased the system as a JRPG fan (I guess I was naive- I was young too), and I was very upset when it was canceled. They made a bigger push for JRPGs with 360, but nearly all of the good ones came out on other systems (Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey the noteworthy exceptions). Now with the One, they don't care about Japanese games period, not just JRPGs. Any Japanese-inspired game (Phantom Dust) or Japanese-developed game (Scalebound) financed by MS is getting canceled, and its library suffers majorly from a lack of diversity for non-indies. I guess they just don't care about curating a diverse library as long as they're making money.
That is operating on a much tighter budget and scrutiny within said organization. There still MS investors who want Xbox gone. The Xbox division isn't a separate company. They are apart of one of the largest companies in the world.
