Who will buy Zelda BOTW WiiU ?

What system are you buying Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for?

I had my credit card out ready to order a switch before the presentation last night, but after how lack luster that was I will be purchasing on Wii U and not buying a switch at launch.

At this point definitely. I probably won't get a Switch for a few years at the earliest and I can't imagine the performance difference or anything would be drastic enough to discourage me.

I was always going to buy it on Wii U, and am very happy that it comes out at the same time as the Switch. I don't care much about graphical fidelity, I just hope that the framerate is smooth.

I'm buying it for the Wii U for sure. The Switch hasn't done much to impress me yet, and there's really no rush to get it. I'm sold on BoTW, though, hopefully there aren't any severe downgrades.

I was considering holding off and getting it on the switch. Now I have no desire to get the switch at all. I'll be buying it on Wii U.

I would but definitely not day one as I would be looking for reviews and such.

I want to see first if there's a substantial difference from the switch undocked version. If there isn't then I'm buying it.

I'm going to buy a Switch anyway, so I'm probably going to roll with the Switch version; Zelda seems as good a reason as any. That said, if the Wii U does indeed perform better (not look better), than I'll cancel my pre-order and go with the Wii U.

I will, I'm not canceling my preorder and the Canadian Switch price is hilariously high.

I did the same thing back with Twilight Princess and still hold a little bit of a grudge from them delaying the Gamecube version to push the Wii.

They haven't announced that the WiiU release date is pushed back this time too, have they?

Saying that it'll cost $360 JUST to play this game on the Switch seems pretty short-sighted, unless you actually intend to do nothing else with your switch aside from play BotW.

I'll be buying it for the Wii U, absolutely. I won't be getting a Switch anytime soon until Nintendo proves they've gotten their shit together.

Not a huge Zelda guy, but everything they showed about the switch basically means I won't be wasting time with that console, so if I get it it'll definitely be the wii u version

Let's see the differences in graphics/performance and release schedule for the Wii U version. I have the Switch one on preorder, but I'm definitely open to giving my Wii U one more adventure before retirement.

Wii U all the way for me then taking a break from Nintendo for the forseeable future. Looks like they are bringing back the Wii Remote-casual crowd and I'm not seeing anything software-wise that's a gamechanger for me with the Switch. I'll miss Splatoon but I'm ok with that.

I have a WiiU and I don't think I will be getting the switch anytime soon. (waiting for a price drop and the library to increase) 3DS early adopter here got fed up with price drops and revisions etc. so will wait now.

so yeah.

But to be fair, from first impressions, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 don't seem all that different from their Wii U counterparts. And Super Mario Odyssey is the only other new game coming in 2017 with massive appeal. For the initial months, I bet a majority of Switch buyers will be doing so primarily for BotW.

I probably will. I'll have to buy a Wii U first, though. I was considering the Switch, but I'm not paying $400 for a hybrid console and pro controller (that's with tax), when I've got no interest in the game catalog outside of Zelda and no interest in handheld gaming.

Nintendo could have easily had me day 1 on the switch but dropped the ball hard. I've also got a very old $40 preorder of Zelda Wii U (I'm canadian, so this is half price) and a backup one at a different retailer for a little bit more. I don't know how much truth there is to the Wii U version performing better, that doesn't help the case either. I play my consoles on a 720p TV so any resolution bump isn't much of a selling point.

Gonna pick it up on WiiU and wait for a CEMU patch that gets it up to the same playability that SM3DW currently has. 4K > 900p.

welp, worked for me!

What will the differences in the games be specifically concerning the Wii U Gamepad? I know that first introduction of the game had Miyamoto and Aonuma consulting a large map on the Gamepad.

There is something special about having the Gamepad right there next to you as a map, even if you use the Wii U Pro Controller. My friend and I pay that way with Twilight Princess HD. One helps with weapons on the Gamepad and looks at the map and the other plays the game with the Pro controller.

Any word on map differences with BotW on Switch?

That Wii U emulator working good enough yet?

Cemu requires game specific tweaking to get it playable much less going beyond what the Wii U could do. I wouldn't expect to play BotW on it for a while. Though considering how it runs on the Switch, getting a Wii U version might best in the long run.

I will. Instant download at midnight means I get to play it faster than if I got the Switch version :)

I also save something like $500 so there's that

Still have my sub-$50 CDN pre-order locked in. I'd have to be an idiot to not buy it at that price.
I cancelled that months ago because I was confident the Switch version would blow it away and convince me to pick one up at launch. Guess how stupid I feel right now.

I will buy which ever version performs the best. Portable is enticing though. I thought for sure Id be buying the Switch version. But its not so clear anymore. Id only really buy the Switch itself if Zelda Switch was the definitive version.

I thought they totally removed touch screen/second screen stuff in the game. So no map in either version. Im guessing for parity between the 2 versions.

The always-on GamePad map was no longer a feature in the E3 2016 build.

I know right. To those that are complaining like this. how much have you spent overall for any other system including games, controllers, accessories and online costs? Over the life span of any system I bet most of us easily spend over $1000.

Absolutely I will.

I was honestly, genuinely worried that the Switch presentation would make me desperate to own a Switch. I mean, a Nintendo handheld that seamlessly docks to a TV? That's right up my alley. So why get an inferior(?) version of Breath of the Wild? And that would wipe out the money I'm saving for video game hardware, which I was hoping to spend on a new PC GPU once Volta comes out.

But after that Switch presentation, shit, I definitely don't have to worry about wanting a Switch at launch. Literally the only thing exclusive to the Switch that makes my palms even a little sweaty is Super Mario Odyssey. It's hellaciously unappealing. I'll probably get one once it's in the bargain bin and there's plenty of single-player content I can buy cheap that doesn't require a fucking subscription.

As long as performance is decent, I have no reason to get a Switch for this. I bought my Wii U specifically for this game back in 2015.

Well for me at least, they didn't show anything that interested me outside of Zelda and Xenoblade 2, and I don't expect XB2 to be out until much later so buying a Switch at launch would really be just for BoTW.

I was all set to pre-order a Switch, Zelda and a pro controller for less than £300 based on rumoured pricing. Then I saw the cost and, for the first time, decided to get the Wii U version.

I just hope the U version holds up well.

I was initially thinking about picking it up at launch with the Switch, but after seeing what the Switch's launch line up looks like (quantity wise & personal interest wise worse than the Wii U's launch line-up) I'm gonna stick with the Wii U version.

Sigh...

In the event the Switch version of BoW runs substantially better, then Switch. I plan on picking one up anyway, but was trying to avoid the day one craze. I don't mind playing on the Wii U (in fact I like the Wii U's gamepad) but I certainly don't want an inferior product.

Nintendo will optimize it on the Wii U, I'm sure.
