Who will buy Zelda BOTW WiiU ?

What system are you buying Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for?

I can't understand why Nintendo is releasing the Wii U version the same day. IMHO, it removes a big incentive* to buy a switch on launch day.

* for the people who still own a Wii U (and there aren't many of us)

It would be a huge betrayal to make WiiU owners wait when the game was announced for WiiU originally. Like, it would be completely shameless.

I can live with that level of difference and save $370 plus dollars.

What was it in last night's presentation that had you go from ready to pull the trigger to NOPE? What complete transformation happened during that one hour that changed your mind?

What did you think the Switch was going to be? Was it the games lineup? The price? I mean, there wasn't any new revelatory info that completely changed what the Switch was from the October reveal. I'm just confused as to why so many people are like, "oh man I was ready to purchase but after the presentation...meh".

Was it the fact that you can play the damn newest hottest most epic Zelda handheld?! Was it the graphical improvements that got you down? Was it the new additions to great franchises like Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? What?! WHAT?!

Ok sorry to yell I'm just baffled.
I can tell you quite simply why I went from wanting one at launch to not caring anymore.

This was Nintendo's chance to wow us, the world and scream at the top of their voices - look we're back. They failed.

Last night and today has made it abundantly clear that it's the same old Nintendo - with underpowered hardware, a lack of third party support, long drawn out first party release times and the same old dire Virtual Console. Plus charging for online, over priced accessories and a very high price for what is essentially a handheld. It looks like Wii U launch part two and that fills no one but the naive and the terminally fanboy with any sort of confidence.

All the games announced should have been available at or near launch. We should have been promised Nintendo dreams coming in the near future. Third parties should have had a slew of the biggest games from the last couple of years waiting for release and more coming. The price should have reflected the handheld nature of the device and why didn't they pack in the Wii Sports like game?

I guess we get to rent 25 year old games for one month. Whoopie fucking do!

The only game worth getting it for is available on a console most fans already own and at cheaper price here in the UK. I'll be getting on the Wii U I already own for sure.

IGN is claiming Wii U version runs better than Switch version right? That's one concern. Another is buying a console for one game when nothing of note will be available until the holiday.

not just IGN, just seen a gamespot video saying the wii u version ran better with less pop in and much smoother aiming....
I'm baffled if this turns out to be true, i would of thought they would make sure on switch it at least ran as good as the wii u version but i guess they ran into issues.

Yeah I won't buy Switch this year, so yeah I will buy Zelda for WiiU. I doubt it will be a huge difference and Switch just doesn't offer enough for me right now for the price they want.

i won't buy a switch until they release, Monster hunter, No more heroes 3, Fire emblem and Mario Odyssey

so the answer is HELL NO

the only games i enjoyed on the wii u is Zelda WW+TP HD and Monster hunter 3, the others are just a recycled games that i got bored of since Gamecube

the only game that can make me buy a system for it alone is Zelda, i bought Wii for Twilight princess, and bought Wii u for Wind Waker HD, i bought 3DS for OoT 3d

thank god BotW is coming to Wii u or else i would have been forced to buy that shitty switch

I remember getting Twilight for GC because I saw no real point in the Wii version.

I think only issue was it wasn't 480p widescreen. But I can't remember now.

I am leaning towards it. I think both Mario and XB2 will get delayed into 2018 and Splatoon will be the holiday title. I also don't think the price of the system, or the accessories is right. The system is fine, the accessories are overpriced. I was in Day one for the WiiU and got screwed by it so I will not seriously consider a switch until it has more exclusives.

Me, its the only game I'd even play on the Switch. Skipping the Switch and hoping my daughter doesn't mess up our Wii U before Zelda comes out :)

At first I thought even a minimal improvement on Switch would be enough to seduce me to the dark side, but with every new detail emerging I'm inching more towards the WiiU camp. I find it really hard to justify a Switch purchase atm, when it's really for one single game.

I'm hungry for those version comparisons.

Mine was more 'nah' to start and was hoping they could sell me one at launch. Clearly didn't work for me.

The price of the console was on the high end, but fine to me. The accessories, however, surprised the shit out of me.

The Virtual Console 'one game for that month' is ridiculous.

And Skyrim for me doesn't fill me with any confidence; tell me that (a presumed) Elder Scrolls VI will launch day and date with the (presumed) PS4 and XB1 versions, THEN I'll feel better about their third party support.

I don't care about the Switch as a handheld. And, again, for me, £280 + £50 for a slightly better-looking (maybe!) game I can spend £40 on instead would be irresponsible for me. Similarly, I'm ok with Wii U Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 and don't need updates at the moment.

On paper, helluva lineup for someone who doesn't have a Wii U. BOTW, MK8D and Splatoon 2 should be good! But the value isn't there for me.

There's not enough for me to fork out £280 plus whatever a game costs. Just enough misses versus the hits for me.

SMOdyssey is more like it; if that was coming out at launch, you've got me. so maybe this time next year I'll buy one, but FZero or Waverace in the trailer last night would've made me take notice.

Like I said, what they showed didn't appeal to me.

It's all personal preferences. If I had infinite money, yeah, why not. Considering everything above, I'd rather buy BOTW then see whattup with Scorpio or getting a VIve later.

I want to know how to do this.

In another thread, it'as been reported Switch outputs BoW in 900p docked, and 720p on the go. No word yet on a confirmed framerate, or what the Wii U will output.

I'm fine if the WiiU is 30FPS locked and 900p. But if it struggles to maintain 30FPS and runs at 720p, then I will Switch it up. Get it?

Me!

The Switch price is hilarious.

Yep. Not to mention zelda costs £20 on Switch. Visually I noticed no differences to the WiiU port either.

The WiiU version will be 720p with no anti-aliasing and will struggle to maintain 30fps.

Me. I won't be picking up a Switch for at least a year if at all. Graphical differences seem negligible to me right now.

They just mentioned on the Giant Bomb stream... the BOTW demo looked framy'er on the switch than what they remembered it on the Wii U ....?!???

*-*
Yeah, thought I heard that too. I mean, I'm sure both versions will actually be fine (there's 2 months or so to go), but still thought that Nintendo would show their best foot forward at the conference.

Lol. Comparsions are going to be a bit interesting I suppose.

I would love if that were true but I wouldn't rely on people giving passing impressions based on half-remembered hands on from half a year ago.

The always-on GamePad map was no longer a feature in the E3 2016 build.

Which is probably a reason that I'm going toactually cancel my switch preorders.

There's just so many things about the switch that remind me of how fucking burned we've been with the Wii U and it staying expensive for a technology that nintendo gave up on so quickly.

There's so much shit thrown into the Switch that doesn't need to be there, it feels unfocused. I'd say sure, if they decided to pool all their resources into it. Third parties definitely aren't going to give a shit about a IR motion tracker, and I even doubt they're really bother with motion controls of the joycons at all... You know... this system may be easy to develop for, but now developers have to think about all of the different combonations of control inputs that come out of the box. Ideally the draw of multiple inputs would be that a player can choose... but developers won't do that. They'll choose one way to play, most likely, like with the Wii U, to have standard controller inputs (ie, connected joycons, joycons in the grip, or pro controller) and disregard everything else. The inputs are dictated by the game you're playing, which makes different options useless unless the game tells you to use a certain input.

But they're still making games for 3ds. They aren't exactly making me ooze with confidence that they're placing all of their bets on the Switch. Without nintendo leading the way on what they consider to be innovation and what I consider to be unfocused bloat... These extras that have increased the cost of the system beyond what people wanted for what it is... we'll have another wii u.

HD Rumble? cool. doubt it's important at all unless you're using the joycons in 'wii' mode. And how many games will use that mode ever? And how many of those games are actual games you really want to play and not just party games you play to entertain at parties? And is that really why you bought a switch? A console that's 'thing' is being portable and powerful... to be party entertainment?

Fuck. Sorry I got way off topic.

I'm probably getting zelda for Wii U, barring anything like features exclusive to switch.

I completely agree on the samelessness. However, I understand that is what they did for the release of Twilight Princess, originally a Gamecube title that has been released on the Wii almost a month (in US/Canada) prior to GameCube.

I have a Switch preordered, but I may end up cancelling it and waiting until later in the year to pick on up. If I do, then I'm guessing I'll get the Wii U version. I can't wait until the end of the year to play it.

I'm not actually that against the switch. Maybe I'm older but nintendo would need to do a lot more to lure me in at launch- more games and that price point. I just got a new TV with HDR and 4k resolution. In australia, the switch is 469- I managed to get a PS4 pro for just cheaper than that. I also picked up an Xbox one s for under 300. I'Ve got a wii u.

Not only does this lack nintendos usual innovation in games, it just lacks anything new I'm interested in- splatoon 2? I've got the first on wii right now. Zelda? I'll pick up on wii u. Mario kart? I'd have to wait till after launch to pick up a port.

Really the only game that excited me was Zelda and I can already get it. I want to want a switch but it just hasn't happened yet. Hopefully by the time it does it'll be cheaper.

Ill get it on Wii U. Got a cheap $40 preorder when the Switch version itself costs $80 (Canadian)

Really wanted a Switch but the reveal really let me down.

Would be pretty bad now that the WiiU version is confirmed to release alongside the Switch version.

I'll be getting a Switch this Holiday for Mario Odyssey so I'll probably get it then. I'll want to wait for Mario, FE Warriors, and Zelda to all be out when I pick it up.

So no Wii U version for me!
