He is being treated equally. People are protesting and criticizing him just like republicans and the tea party did with Obama. And reducing why people are angry just down to "he won my candidate lost" is completely disingenuous.

I get it the liberal celebrities are all butthurt etc but sheesh hes our new president man, politics asside. most of the world would kill (like our revolutionary war veterans had to) to have a peaceful transition of power every four years. thats what needs to be celebrated here. shame on people who purposefully backed out. you have a chance to show the world we can start annew and that despite our differences we love this country and everyone will do what they can to keep the dream alive.

Fellow citizens, those who fear and those who love Trump, pay attention to protests and gestures that make it clear where a person stands. It sounds pointless to you, but somewhere a persons coworker breathes a sigh of relief knowing that they have someone to turn to when their citizenship is called into question by the president because they wear a hijab
 
Protesting is a very visible way to indicate displeasure to politicians, and help show unhappy people that they aren't alone. Since when is protesting useless?

Is it the only thing that people should do? No. But it is an important way for opposition to indicate size, get publicity, visibility, and a voice. No protesting and people might feel everything is hunky dory. Opposition politicians would have nothing to point to, and those in power can run roughshod over a passive populace.

Why do you think dictators and authoritarian nations crack down on protests? Because they can lead to serious opposition and change, and in extreme contexts be precursors for overthrow of government.

not when it has the ootential to make a difference. trump is the new president, period. i 100% expected protests though. I'm not a Trump fan by any means, and i am all for freedom of speech and every other right. but you guys need to shift your efforts in other directions, hes our new president wether you like it or not.

He has done a lot. People are already scrambling because of the ACA roll back. He put up a racist for the position of attorney general, an oil man for the EPA and an imbecile for the secretary of education. Etc. etc. He's made his waves already.

And a summary of his "strategy" will literally be on every site before he steps off stage. I don't need to listen to him.

valid points really man. im just a different kind of person. i volunteer a lot and donate whenever i can. and i see the value in making the voices heard. but this is day is happening, it is historical and important, and there better things yiu can do with your time. at the end of the day this plays into how he won i the firdt place. trump knows better than anyone, that all press is good press. wearing black to work is a constanf reminder to your coworkees trump is the new president. wether you like him or not im sure he appreciates you reminding everyone.

Decided I'm going to watch, so that it motivates me to take action. I want to burn the image of this disgrace into my brain so that I can't help but live to right it.

With so many public sector services being dismantled by this administration I want to do work in the private and NGO sector.

I don't ever want to forget this moment. I pray that I can forever fend off the snares of complacency.

Donald J Trump is my president. I will keep a vivid memory of the taste of these words.

Nobody is going to forget what Trump is now, regardless of protesting or not. Trump will get attention regardless. No protests and he'll just point and claim people are so happy with the things he's doing/done that they don't protest anymore. How would that help?

Trump has and will continue to try to dismiss opposition that appears, including protests. If people let him, then he'll veer even closer to being a dictator. Sizable protests serve as a reminder that he does have to watch what he does, even if he doesn't admit it and tries to dismiss them. He doesn't want to be overthrown, and the bigger those crowds in response to his actions, the more likely that becomes. He wants to keep them small.

Farage is delighted about Trump becoming president and the UK taking a hard brexit route so that the two countries can do trade deals with each other.

All things considered a Trump Presidency is probably good for a post brexit UK. As much as I never wanted either to happen :(

I believe public protest for this is a good thing and I'd support them, but the more I think about actual members of congress boycotting the inauguration I wonder if it's the best strategy. It sounded good to me at first, but now it comes off as the wrong way to go about it. It just feels like a frustrated effort that ends up harming the party in the end, and this is a party that needs all the strength it can get right about now.
 
At the very least, protesting causes conversation, which the people who don't believe in protesting is actually engaging in.
 
Never give up on telling people how badly he lost the popular vote as there are few arguments against it that do not sound selfish, or are well laid out by the common man.
 
Although I can't attend any protests or rallies in Atlanta or D.C., I will be protesting by wearing a suit as if I'm going to a funeral.

For people who don't understand protesting Trump, he has illegitimate the office of President and normalize terrible behavior through his actions, his choices, and his beliefs. Anyone who calls about people from a foreign country to dig up information about a political opponent then cast doubt about the intelligence community of our country while believing the leader of a foreign country over them doesn't deserve anything. That's among other things he has done. He is betraying the Constitution he is sworn to uphold.

The next 4 years will be terrible. I think a lot of people who voted for Trump will regret their decision soon. I put nothing past Trump at this point; I wouldn't be surprised if after he is sworn in, he declares marital law to get protesters out of D.C. and major cities and have them arrested while talking about the ratings and the crowds on Twitter. Or journalists at CNN and other outlets critical of him find themselves having to defend their record and evidence is presented to make them criminals. You have to remember Trump looks up to Putin, not past American presidents.

Not to be dramatic, but our freedom of speech and protesting could end with this.

Just because he sexually assaults women, calls the deportation of muslims (all brown people), promotes violence against people of opposite opinions, proven to scam people out of money with hoax businesses, give praise and support to murderous dictators, threaten old defensive allies of the country, disrespect the news media in a manner that no President has before him, actively lie in a manner that only idiots can't see through, we really should give him a chance, I mean, what has he really done to earn the ire of people around the world?

We really should respect him.

Not a week, or a month, but the exact moment he's sworn in. he's going to be handed the launch codes.
 
I never watch inaugurations. I can't recall the last time I was even available to do so (always work or something else). I don't think I'll do anything at work, like wear a black armband or something, because I try to keep politics out of work as much as possible.

Man it's going to be so weird to see images of it later though. An unsavory, unscrupulous business man, former reality TV star, and prolific Internet troll who can barely speak like an adult being inaugurated after one of the most finest statesmen the country has ever seen. I imagine that the mere imagery of the event is going to cause many anxiety.
