Horizon Zero Dawn | Cinematic Trailer

I can't tell a thing with that video quality on the Taipei Game Show video.

The quality isn't great, but the texture quality between the two is clearly different and much less detailed.
Edit: At 0.44 you can very clearly tell that the NPC's clothes are much, much less detailed.

yeah, i noticed that too. should still wait for a better source video for comparison purposes.

How is it bullshit? Even through the low quality comparison, it's clear as day. Check 0.38 in the video and onwards. The textures on NPC and Aloy are missing a lot of detail.

You should know that compression literally hides detail.

Not to say that the two builds will match up exactly, but there is no reason at all to post that comparison and it doesn't tell us anything. You should have seen by the like to dislike ratio that maybe it's not a good video.

Texture, lighting, vegetation & resolution downgrade confirmed.
Sony does this all the time, so not surprised. sigh

I don't think you can really jump to the conclusion that the resolution has been downgraded. I'll hold off on saying that the lighting and vegetation has been downgraded just because it's not 100% clear.
The textures though, they've definitely took a hit.

Nope that click bait is not new. I'll wait for a proper analysis of the final game before claiming downgrade.

So you haven't even watched the video, but you're calling bullshit. Okay, got it.

So we're comparing YouTube and compressed livestream footage to ascertain downgrades now, are we?

OK.

Hey! You made the same comment as someone in the YT comments! Amazing!

I guessed the part where I said it wasn't new. I have seen this so-called downgrade.

Who knows what build that is or if they reduced some textures to make it run better at the event. If the final game has this downgrade you can be sure gaf will call out GG. Killzone: SF never got downgraded so here's hoping.

Video compression doesn't do THAT much.

The Textures looks muddy because you are not looking at a proper source , Sometimes Youtube videos look like crap. The vegetation aur fauna maybe downgraded (decrease in density) , But I bet those textures are downgraded. Wait for other sources as well , next you will say the frame rate is Cinematic , because its looks like its running below 20 fps.

Video compression doesn't do THAT much.

Yes , This Exactly what video Compression does!
Try compressing a video in 8 Mbit and then 512 kbps, you will see the" Downgrade"

Not that downgrades can't happen or didn't happen here, but it would be a bit weird.

Contextually they're pretty much playing the E3 demo build and has never deviated from that pattern in all the events they've showed the game since E3, and logistics-wise I find it highly unlikely they've been updating that slice of the game as they've brought it around to events around the world to show it off.

It's more realistic that the dev team has just been working on the game proper while their marketing team has been carrying around old E3 builds to all the shows.

Shadows were also in slightly different angle, it can lead to surprisingly different look in some cases.
Otherwise, slight changes are always possible due to tweaking settings. (Some things get better and some worse.)

Video is quite blurry so I wouldn't look into things like textures etc.

No, if that was the case her then the every detail in the picture would completely distorted. The fine creases are still there in the clothing, etc. yet the textures clearly are lacking.

Like one of the posters above said, it looks like texture streaming has been turned off.

Ehh that video is a bit of a weird comparison.
We'd need to compare direct feeds not some blurred out stream (yeah textures seem lower quality but is that an old build?)

Anyway we will know how good the game looks when previews come out in a week.

Texture, lighting, vegetation & resolution downgrade confirmed.

Really?
I can't remember the last time a Sony game was downgraded compared to pre release.
Their studios nearly always nail the visuals of what they show before launch.

This looks too good. I'm tempering my hype because there's no way this game will be as good as it looks. It just looks too good.

Ooh how I hope it is as good as it looks though!

I mean its not like That is not happening? Its like comparing 1080p to 720p , can you tell me why everything looks blurry?

I mean check this , This is an Offscreen Image , Actually playable by media, Can is ask where is the Downgrade gone and why this is not looking blurry?

That's a hyperbolic comparison to say the very least.

The game drops very soon, why not hold off on the attempts to cause pandemonium and allow people to judge the game for themselves when they play it. Also, I'm sure the new previews releasing will be more telling and offer more exposition than the video captured.

Are you seriously telling me that video found its way onto GAF ... and someone actually thinks it shows a downgrade?

Why do people keep doing this to themselves? Why is it so easy for these people to ignore every bit of footage we've seen so far and take this as proof of a downgrade? I'm also confused by the idea Sony 'always does this'. I suppose they work on the assumption if you say something often enough it becomes accepted as the truth. It's not going to be that easy to persuade 54m people though, so my advise would be to stop trying.

It's rather obvious the differences between the images posted above you is the result of compression.

Take a look at a geometrically simple yet shadowed area such as the corner of the bow to the left of the mans face. The compression here is enough to completely obscure shaded geometric detail to a blob. Texture reduction doesn't do that.

That's great you understand Now :P

I'm afraid not, by exacerbating the difference with your comparison you've lost me.
I understand that video compression effects the overall quality of the video, but I fail to see how the video could be compressed in such a way that it turns the textures in game from high to low.

Your television does look quite nice, however.

Gotta find some way to disparage the game. Every showing has been great, lets compare a youtube video to direct feed video and call it a downgrade to try and stir up some hate for this before release!

Yep. I'd love to see the 'click bait' V 'exclusive releases' ratio. I'd assume they move in tandem.

What??

The pics is from media Preview event , The point was that, you can see the details in textures even from a Offscreen photo , which is not Compressed!

That is not my TV or are you trolling me? , I am not sure!!

I think wait for the Impressions than we can comeback to this discussion , And i can assure you that i will be the one who will make the first thread about the downgrade!

Honestly, i thought that was your TV showing youtube footage with a laptop next it showing the same footage but on a smaller screen to represent compression.

That said, the details in textures can be seen quite clearly in that picture. The wood grains on the floor especially.

I'm pretty sure you're not going to see any significant structural differences except in extreme cases that probably lead to starvation.
Like in a post apocalyptic event type of starvation? Anyway at this point I'm just throwing stuff to see if it sticks so I think it's better to wait for the full game to come out

That tgs footage was from a livestream, of course it's going to lack detail. The whole video has massive layer of blur across it.

I know some people love to scream downgrade every chance they get, it happened with Shadow Fall which turned out to be bullshit, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Until we get a direct feed or from gamersyde, don't think it's apt to do a comparison from a YouTube video or livestream where things are heavily compressed.

While the newest footage is indeed very crappy and compressed to hell and back, there is imo still a considerable downgrade noticable. Not just blurry textures but also scaled back vegetation, lighting and LOD.
Damn, I actually thought that would not happen with this title, not so very late. :(

Downgrade? Please, they are using the same BUILD on shows since E3 with the exception of the tallneck for the PS4 PRO! Do you think they'll do a new demo everytime they go to the shows like PGW, TGS, EGX? Get real.

There is no downgrade, it's shit quality video vs an even worse stream quality video. Also the trees and other environment stuff might look different due to this tech: http://wccftech.com/horizon-zero-dawn-gpu-based-procedural-tech/

Now you ask, how the hell do you know it's the same build? Because if you've been playing close attention to this game - like I do - you'll notice that the interface on the tapei demo is exactly the same and it hasn't been changed since E3.
But if you watch the game informer videos you'll notice that in some of the footage, the "weapon wheel" looks much better and the prompt buttons are also different, meaning they're showing off a newer build.

If you want to claim a downgrade wait for the final game to be released and then speak your mind.
