EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

Assuming he gets back to it in time. He's busy with Resident Evil 7 right now and the Injustice 2 beta just came out so he's likely going to mess around with that for a while.
He has several days to get to streaming the game, I can't imagine he wouldn't stream KI to raise awareness of its chance to return to Evo.

I think I need to put money toward ARMS. I kinda need to see people waggling controllers on the main stage of EVO. I want salt buildup on the right side of my monitor from the chat.

It's got standard controls as an option, so I'm 99% sure that if Arms got into EVO no one would be using motion controls.

The only way that would happen is they they fucked up the traditional controls so much that motion control users ended up having more options in-game, but Nintendo's not stupid enough to let something like that happen.

The motion controls are what make it special though, they will also be the most fun for viewers to watch and have a better chance at selling people on the game.

They should be a must, along with player cams.

I don't think players would particularly care about selling people on the game. Nintendo would, but would they have the cajones to force players to use motion controls on the main stage?

I think if that happened the EVO committee would just go with the second place game instead.

The fuck is Marvel being relegated to a side game? It has the numbers and pull to be a main line game. They're pulling the same shit they did last year with SFIV.

The point of a competition is to have an event where the players can show their best, not to entertain the audience. It can be fun to watch, but players preference should come first.

Sure but like I said, motion controls are what make it special. They would also allow for a wider audience to be able to participate and get interested in the game. If players like the game then I'm sure they would want it to grow and be back next year.

I wanna see the reaction if Windjammer or Pokken wins.

The guy who won with Braixen will return so that he can have more Braixen porn.

OK, let's say Marvel got in. Something would have to be removed for it. Which game though?

Can't be SFV obviously.
Both Smash games bring in over two thousand players with relatively little crossover
Injustice got dat WB money
Both BB and GG got recent updates and bring in lots of international players
Tekken 7 is brand new and should be super popular now that it's actually getting released on consoles.

Besides, even if Marvel skips a year, last year was a crazy good one for it at EVO, so it still went out with a bang.

Oh, for sure motion controls should be allowed as an option, don't get me wrong.

I just don't think anyone would use them seriously.

Marvels numbers have been declining year over year though

It would have the hugest number of entrants after smash and SF easily. With MVCI coming, and the ports to new systems it has some life left in it.

Tekken 7 won't be out till June 2nd and you can get rid of it easily, and just relegate it to a promotional side tournament. It's ridiculous how this game keeps making it in when this region has been locked out of playing it for most of its lifespan. GG/BB(there's always overlap here), or even KOF which won't be getting higher numbers than an MVC game.

Why would Nintendo consider the motion controls being better to be a fuck up? They'd likely want the preference to be for that control system.

It's possible that the port and the hype for MvCI could jumpstart some Marvel 3 interest again, so your claim could very well be true. But last year at EVO Marvel had less entrants than the following games

  • Street Fighter V
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Pokkén Tournament
  • Guilty Gear Xrd
And it almost got beat out by MKX as well. There's a very legitimate reason Marvel has been pushed into side game territory, it's been in the bottom half of the bracket in terms of entrants the last two years. All of the games that outdrew Marvel last year are going to be back next year plus Injustice 2 will probably get a respectable pool.

Marvels numbers have been declining year over year though
With the same rate of decline it would have still had more entrants than KOF, Blazblue, Tekken and probably GGXrd.

The numbers actually went up last year but most games did and the Marvel bump could have been attributed to SFV cross over.

This year though we got the PS4/XB1/PC ports for the game (so no 360 excuse) and Marvel Infinite over the horizon. Honestly it should have been in the main line up to begin with.

I wanna see the reaction if Windjammer or Pokken wins.

Windjammers could be pretty hype I think.

It's fast, exciting and easy to understand even if you haven't seen it before.

Why would Nintendo consider the motion controls being better to be a fuck up? They'd likely want the preference to be for that control system.

I'd certainly consider it to be a fuck up if one control style was objectively superior to the other. At that point, why even bother traditional controls if you can't do everything that motion controls can do? Multiple inputs of control is about giving options, but what's the point when one option is worse than the other in a tangible way?

Marvel's numbers actually went down last year compared to 2015, but not by much

KI and UMvC3 aren't going to be both part of the main lineup? Yeah not really going to follow EVO too much this year.

Exactly, I think it's pretty shitty that it's not in the main lineup when it has continuously more entrants than any of the Blaz Blue and Guilty Gear games at evo. Those are fine to be in the main lineup to but it seems like a huge mistake not to have Marvel in the main lineup.

Edit: I was wrong about last year it didn't have as many as Guilty Gear but especially with the new port to PS4/PC/XBox One I think that will renew interest in it.

That's a fair point. I will be incredibly dissapointed if Marvel doesn't make it though.

Because not everyone can be assed to use motion controls, or at least not all the time (or for an extended time). This isn't really any different to racing games being better with a wheel, or space sims being better with a HOTAS, or even some fighter's being notably easier with an arcade stick... the average person isn't trying to go to Evo, and so the slight unbalance isn't very important. I certainly didn't do "oh what's the fucking point!?" when I got my copy of Virtua Cop 2 without owning a lightgun initially, or Virtual On without the twin sticks... the point of the option was so I was able to play it at all.

Killer Instinct has had the smallest entrant pool of EVO the last two years (to be fair it see growth in 2016 though). As much as I like the game, it should step aside for something that could potentially get more entrants.

I need to see everyone playing serious with standard controls and then just one dude who has the game on lock with the motion controls bodying them all to the top.

One day.

Yeah I agree just hope that we hear something KI4 related at KI World Cup or E3.

Pokken was so boring for me to watch last year it was the first time i was ever bored watching Evo. KI being a fan vote is a crime and I think this is the first sign of a new game coming. Please for the love of god let Windjammers somehow win

It was 770 last year, with 816 on 2015 (about 6% drop).
Guilty Gear Xrd was 903 last year, with 968 in 2015 (about 7% drop).
Tekken 7 was 543 last year, with 458 in 2015 (about 19% growth).

Windjammer could have that kind of support. Get the GB crew and Xavier Woods to do a stream for it.

We need another donation drive to move the porting rights from DotEmu to M2, people have been discouraging voting for Windjammers on account of DotEmu's past work.

Maybe if a different company handles the port to another system... seems possible, after the PS4 port of Garou was handled by Code Mystics and the Steam one was by DotEmu, both were released close to each other, and the CodeMystics one turned out to be the superior version...

At least ARMS should be fun to watch, most others if these games are fun to play but a pain to watch.
