EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

I really wish Pokken had more of a following. I put so much time into it at launch and absolutely loved the online in it. So much fun.

May throw some money at it. Otherwise I'd love to see ARMS!

This is really what I'm talking about. A lot of people in the FGC are actually excited about it and like what they've played/seen. That should be enough to convince people that it's worth taking seriously and isn't just some joke.

Most of them would say the same if Naruto was in the draw. Doesn't mean we should consider the game a competitive FG.

Right know, ARMS looks to me more like Naruto game than those games on the list.

Like come on, Windjammers it's also in the draw and it's not even a FG (Still would love it to win tho...)

To be fair, Pokken and ARMs aren't really comparable. I mean sure, Pokken has that pokemon fan backing but that game was a special kind of travesty with developer support and its general situation. Needing 2 Wii U's and two TVs just to run on 60fps made it way too offputting to even try to get into that scene, I don't think there was a lot of hope from people in general that it would grow especially with it being on a dying console. Before its release in March, I got the sense that people still weren't sure if it even had the potential to be competitive game. There was a lot more hype when people started getting their hands on it, and when Poketubers started showing the game's potential off - something the marketing completely failed at imo - but during that quiet time between its release and the showing at EVO it really just seemed to die.

I don't remember when the whole affair with the being no announcements for when the console version was being updated while Japanese arcades got new characters, but with all that I'm definitely not surprised on why it's not back. I guess maybe other things didn't help too, like the game looking a bit too simple and the scaling being way too high, pushing people off making hype combos etc. But that's a bit harder for me to say.

At least ARMs looks like a silly, experimental thing on a new console that could be fun to watch. I could see why people would go for it if they think UMvC3 had its time, wanna see something a bit fresh, and have the awful tastes not to realise Catherine got robbed and is the true contender for the spotlight.

EDIT: poor wording so just a small edit. I know people don't know the competitive uh 'validity' of ARMs, but it looks more whacky and silly at least. Like even if it doesn't grow, it'd at least be fun. Pokken looked a bit more troubled, but I guess that's more imo.

I really hope it's not arms since the game will barely matter anyway. The only game it should be is marvel if anything beats marvel it should be windjammers.

If Nintendo were smart they'd release new gameplay videos for Arms right now, highlighting the different techniques and moves.

Where is 3rd Strike?

Seriously? I'd love to see some high level footage of that game again.

No Garou option is a bit of a bummer as well.

I'd vote for Windjammers as my proxy choice if I had the money to spare, but hopefully the GB fans have that one covered.

ARMS could be cool as well but we know so little of the game at this point to know if it will hold up competetively I guess.

Edit: instead of Super Turbo yet again, they could have gone with the new Ultra version of SFII to give everyone a fresh start so to speak. I mean why not? Hopefully it's not because FGC members might be averse to adapting to a new version. I'd hope they'd jump for joy for new balance changes and new possibilities after so many years of the same stuff instead.

I'd vote for Windjammers as my second choice if I had the money.

Evo is a console tournament and nobody that's even remotely competitive bothers with console versions of 3S -- it's all either on PCBs or emulated on something like Fightcade. All running 3S at Evo would do is draw a boycott from a bunch of players.

That and 3S is a tire fire of a game and should be thrown into the sun.

Let's also pump the brakes on the Windjammers hype. The game itself is legit, but it would almost certainly be the PS4 port used, which means we would have a typical DotEmu piece of shit on our hands.

I'd love to see Arms at Evo, but I can see Nintendo making an Arms tournament after it has a player base.

Btw are there rules towards who gets to vote/donate? Can't a company push their game?

Yeah, nobody is trying to see another Chun/Yun/Ken grand finals for another year.

3rd Strike > Melee.
I'm not trying to diss 3rd Strike cause clearly it's a special game for a lot of people, but the reality of the matter is that Melee is huge while 3S is poverty. Is it fair? Maybe not. But that's the reality. If 3S had 2000+ people showing up to play it I have no doubt it would be considered for EVO but it's just not happening.

On another note, I can't get behind ARMS being eligible. I've got nothing against the game; it being great and ushering in a new age of deep and skilled Nintendo games is a best case scenario, but it's just too much of a gamble. I can't in good conscience support giving the ninth slot to something announced less than two weeks ago from a company not exactly known for catering to the hardcore, especially over something like Skullgirls that's been snubbed for four years in a row.

Arms isn't out, the system isn't out and for all we know it's going to be shitty. Who in their right minds would spend money to vote for it?

Nintendo fans are weird.

I have played it a bunch and like it a lot.
I already like it more than all of the other games on the list.

It deserved my $50

At the end of the day it's all in good fun and for a good cause.

really weird to me that marvel (come on, its marvel) and KI arent directly on the list

Right now Pokken with the lead. I hope it's the community and not some die hard nintendo fans... Last Year didn't feel like people cared about the game so I would't like it to take an slot from Marvel which clearly will have a follow.

KI has low entrants and it's not big in viewership terms either, so...

Marvel I guess they don't expect a competition level worth to put it in, but still can feel strange, speciall knowing Capcom will promote MvC:I at EVO 100%.

Then we can argue about other games being in, but I guess they want to see how they respond in viewership and participation terms.

Specially BB and KOF looking foward to EVO Japan.

Pokken winning would be a tragedy. The game doesn't even have the new arcade content available!

I'm still waiting on a surprise Switch announcement with the new content, honestly.

At this point, I think it'll be UMVC3 or Pokken. KI will likely die out before it hits the finish line. Pokemon fans have DEEP pockets, though.

Wow, Pokken showing up. I know it has a decent size community, but I wasn't sure there'd be enough dedication there to keep it in the running. Props to the Pokken folks. Marvel and KI keeping it respectable too.

Impressed at how fast the donations built up. Years ago, seems like it took a week or something to start hitting decent numbers and really get competitive. Like that one, I'm sure this one will get ridiculous by the end.

Remember, vote with your wallet if you truly do not want one game over another.

Pokken was in my top 10 of 2016. I would absolutely love it back, and can understand others not wanting it because of logistics and running long. Though, last year it almost was left to die on the vine with, despite having like the 4th most entrants, an awkward timeslot. The Wii U being discontinued and 0 DLC on the horizon for the Arcade characters doesn't help the situation either. However, that hasn't stopped EVO before.

There is no firm release date for USF2 yet.

KI is still in the top three, but Marvel and Pokken are pulling away a bit. Lets go KI folks! But if it is between those current top two, I will pay to eliminate MVC, tired if it.

Wish I could really eliminate melee. Its just the same top 3 characters and players every freaking year.

Don't worry i'll do everything i can to eliminate KI if it's not MvC3

Woah Pokken actually could do it. I thought it's Ki vs Mahvel.

Just one winner.

KI's not really making much headway these days. It's just over 3 years old at this point and feels like it's running on fumes. UMVC3 is the 'last hurrah before MVC:I.' Pokken is...Pokemon. I wish it was an Arcade version or some kind of Switch version with the new characters.

I really really hope Arms makes it. And if it can't, I'll be more than happy with Pokken or Killer Instinct.

I find watching Marvel to be utterly boring, even if it is fun to play in a casual environment.

I'd be cool with it if they were able to release it in a reasonable timeframe for Evo, but I can't see an announcement/release before E3, honestly.

Then, Tekken Team already had to delay T7 home release so it's pretty improbable that they can do both at the moment.

Btw are there rules towards who gets to vote/donate? Can't a company push their game?

The donation has to be from an actual person and the maximum donation amount is $10K so unless a company is willing to freely gives away $10k to a hoard of employees it's going to be difficult to really mess with this.

KI actually surged through donations early, and Pokken was lagging behind the two games.

Didn't expect Pokken vs UMVC3 in this race given the other games' popularity.
