Kinda feel this way too. Evo is a huge event and it's nice to watch, but feels like an event trying to be everything for every fighting game's community just can't be done.
I think CEO really has the right idea. They have their own Smash and Anime focused events. Though I'd rather them then leave those out of the normal CEO event so every game has room to thrive and breathe. I was at the regular CEO last year (only playing Melee), and it felt like they were doing everything they could, but the event was just outgrowing itself.
I know Evo tries to set itself up as "THE" event, but in a small way it ends up feeling like SF, Marvel, and several side tournaments. Granted, there's no denying that the exposure it gives is plenty helpful to a hungry scene like 2013 Melee.
