I thought the info dump on who Char was, was enough to get even new watchers up to speed.

Even the off-side line of Mineva being "The Princess of Zeon" pretty much ttells you of how big a deal of bloodline is, even if one knows no more than "Zeon was the big bad guys!"

It's kinda nice to see Gundam treated like it's as culturally known as something like Star Wars. There's some things that people just don't need explained, because general fans just know it.

The equivalent for this in Star Wars though would be if Kylo Ren just sort of appears and somebody says "he's like Darth Vader!" and that's what they leave it at, which.....isn't good writing.

It's not the continuity that's confusing, it's the way they choose to present information sometimes. The girl at least has groundwork laid up to this point.

Keep in mind that it's super overt from the red mech, his appearance, and the "three times faster", which are all signatures of Char. It's the equivalent of Kylo Ren being dressed like Darth Vader.
