Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Really eh? Wow. I wonder why? The press seem to love it and I think it looks incredible too. Gonna be a critical and commercial hit IMO.
it's because of that bad cut-scene with the crazy guy, people just like to be concerned, especially over exclusives lol.

I don't think it's indicative of the entire game as 2 other longer cut-scenes in that same preview has great voice acting.

I can't watch the full videos with volume at the moment so I've been skipping around. Looks great aside from a few outliers like animations. Can't speak for the writing.

But the game does look incredible.

Agreed

No.

It can be awesomely written and really bad voice acted.

In this case its both. Badly written and badly acted. That its bad in other RPGs shouldn't be a free pass for it to be bad here.
But "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee." didnt stop Skyrim from being one of the best RPGs ever, right?

Story is extremely important in an RPG, it gives content to the quests, if I won't care about the world and story because it's so bad I don't see the point.

I don't know about you but I really want to help that guy find his mom. We saw one bad cutscene. It's a big game and things may be much better as it goes on.

Writing is bad in that cut scene and I've played TW3, never felt so much cringe as much as I felt here, maybe because the visuals and models looks so good it's more noticeable I don't know.

But you have equaly bad side quest as chasing a goat or retrieving a pan for an old woman... those weren' cringy but it made me mad.

Forget about the cutscene for a minute...

Anyone way less excited about it now after seeing some extended gameplay?

It all looks kinda boring to me for some reason. Over the past 3-4 years, with Assassin's Creed, Mad Max, Far Cry and others, I can't help but feel I have played all of this before.

The robo-dinos are great and the world is beautiful, but something has dulled my interest from "Holy shit I am going to buy a Pro for this" to "Well, maybe I should wait and see reviews or wait for a sale."

I can't explain it, but this felt undewhelming.

I really liked what I saw in the two videos.
I mean face animations are not perfect, but should we look after some Witcher 3 videos?

Game looks great, seems to play very good, nice voice acting and for me the most important is Ashly Burch as Aloy. :)

But I need to play HZD for several hours if not until I have the Platinum for the game.^^

Is the main character also the narrator in one of the Forza Horizon games? Her voice sounds so familiar but can't quite finger it. Maybe she's like that BioShock dude and is just in everything.

Been trying to stay away from preview footage but I need to see this guy first hand lol

That is correct.

The game does look awesome in general. So yeah. A game this big can always have "dips in quality" at certain times.

I'm actually a lot MORE excited. I worried it would be more like an AC, Far Cry, etc game but now I feel much more confident in it being more like a traditional RPG.

You should watch it, it's hilarious! lol....also, the 33 minute gameplay on the front page isn't really spoilery, and should calm some people's concern since there are other cut-scenes and dialog that sound great.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but in an RPG, bad storytelling is a big no no.

Well, I take that stance because ultimately gameplay matters the most in this interactive medium. How much interactivity there is, how interesting said activity is, how many unique options exist to the player, etc... That and I go in expecting video game stories to be mediocre or just plain garbage. Sure my standards are a little higher for RPGs, but not by much. Open World games have a very hard time with good storytelling due to their very nature.

So as long as Horizon engrosses me, I'll tolerate cutscenes like that. But that shit actually made me cringe because of how awkward it was.

I wasn't going to pile on with this but after watching it again it really is bad. Honestly it doesn't effect the game play so not a huge deal to me.

It reminds me of bad bioware cutscenes with really simplistic animations in terms of body language and even the facial animation is not that great. Unfortunately, this scene also seems to be incredibly bland in terms of dialogue and plot, so it is not really redeemed. Hopefully this is just some side quest thing that is of lower quality than main story cut scenes.

Suddenly worried about the game. Didn't think it would have dips in quality like this. This is at a level where quality control should have said 'Ditch the scene... not worth it.' Makes me wonder where else they may have cut corners / done a shoddy job

So you don't want to judge the quality control from rest of the footage but make your assumption on this "cutscene" . The gameplay is all there and it shows lots of "qulaity control" its not like a trailer where you have a short time to judge. The rest of the footage looks and play great.

That dialog scene is probably a minor side quest with generic animations. I don't think it is representative of the majority of the content offered by the game.

So does anyone else feel that this game graphically looks better than Uncharted 4 during gameplay?

I can't believe I'm saying this but GG are fudging wizards!
