Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered | Review Thread

From someone who completed the OG version again only a month or so back, with it still fresh in my mind. This is a significant upgrade. Not only visually (which is major), but audio wise and with excellent haptics and control customisation options. If you dont like the game, then you dont like the game. But for me, who does like the game, this is a must have. Excellent remaster.

Exactly, and it does not affect any other Guerrilla project as Nixxes gets comfortable with the Decima engine. Win-win for sure.

One thing that needs to get patched is turning off tutorial messages. I’m 15 hours in and don’t need to be told how to save at a campfire.

Trophies in this game are such a mess right now. I transferred a New Game Plus save file from PS4 where I'm already Level 60. But the trophies for reaching level 10, 20, and so on didn't autopop. How am I supposed to get them without starting a completely fresh game?
The same goes for the kill trophies - kill 3 enemies from above, 20 headshots... I did all this on PS4 already and I don't mind doing them all again. But they don't pop.

Why give me the option to start with a New Game Plus file when it's obviously the "wrong" way to play the game?

Yeah I imported my profile and a completed save too. There simply isn't any trophy transfer/auto pop. For me I dont mind doing them again. But I also understand frustration if you wanted them to transfer too. It might get patched as a few sources have echoed our findings.

One other thing is the positional audio. I haven't seen, or rather heard, this much outside the very tutorial section thus far (not saying it couldn't exist), but there, I'm hearing people holler "hey you! here!" and I'm turning around like "where?". Yes, there are map markers, but come on.

Bloodborne players play Bloodborne because it's god tier

Horizon players play Horizon because they can't play Bloodborne
One, “God tier” is shit lingo we used in high school and two, Bloodborne and both Horizons launched on the same platform. So, that second sentence is about as stupid as it gets.

Anyway, Horizon was a far bigger seller than Bloodborne and has a sequel. That’s part of why it gets this treatment. Sony will revisit Bloodborne when they’re ready, as they did with Demons Souls, so…

Agreed. Money is not an issue for me. Feel like I just played it. Was excited for the sequel, but got bored after a few hours. Shame since I really liked the first game.
I was the complete opposite- I didn't find the 2nd game boring (bland but not boring) yet I found the 1st to be both bland AND boring!

So these studios couldn't make games and no other studios have released remasters?

Anyway I knew when I posted it wouldn't go down too well. But I'm sticking to my opinion 😂

Enjoy the cheap upgrade, that's at least a plus, $10 is a good price point for sure
Lol, it's Nixxes Software we're talking about here. Take the L and move on.

I will never understand the hate the second game got. Or people that say Forbidden West was bland... 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

I played it for so many hours... still playing it from time to time. The atmosphere, the graphics, the (German) voices, the story... It's all nearly perfect! And the soundtrack... God, no other game has such an emotional soundtrack, I just love it!

Playing the Remaster reminds me, why I prefer the second part while still loving zero dawn: Most of the biomes are too big with nothing happening in it. The main quest is not very long and tightly paced. That's a plus. But everything around it becomes boring after a while....

Kind of agree, but it is good to have an excuse to go through ZD again. I'm also of the opinion FW is the better 'game' though (story aside, but even then I don't really have an issue with the story either but ZD is arguable better)

What FW certainly has improved (beyond the graphics) do stand out as missing in ZD but I'm still thoroughly enjoying my time with it.

That's not what "can't" means in this context, champ. No shit they're both PS titles. Lmao @ calling the sentence stupid when you misinterpret it. Try again.

Agreed, I really enjoyed the first game and its story, especially when they started explaining what happened in the past. This game clicked for me so much to the point I platinumed it. Forbidden West was much worse. The story wasn't that exciting, Aloy was annoying, npcs weren't as memorable, etc. I dropped it after 20+ hours and never came back
I agree with this as well. The story in one was so cool. I loved how it started with the trials in the beginning and then branched out into the world. . IMO Guerilla really needs a story that's MUCH more interesting if they make part 3.

It either needs to be set another planet with new enemies which Forbidden West hinted at or a time travel game where Alloy fights alongside real native humans against actual flesh and bone mega fauna. in theory they could keep all of the same animation rigging as the robots are already moddled after dinosaurs and such. The latter idea could be really cool and would hype me up just like the first game did.

  • The 9700X is far better than I was led to believe by the reviews. I don't know whether it's because I've stayed on windows 10, or whether it's because I've paired it with DDR5 6400 CL30 (and I've got it running in gear 1), but either way, I did not expect it to be out-running the 5800X3D (paired with DDR4 3200) the way that it has been for me.
  • The 9700X + a 4080 is a very balanced system.
I bought the 9700X because of its thermal behaviour (which has enabled me to keep the noise down) along with its emulation performace but I've ended up getting far more than I bargained for. The most pleasantly surprised I've ever been with a component.
By the way, have you tried disabling SMT on your Ryzen 9700X? It seems that this CPU is much faster with SMT disabled.

I'm talking about multiple studios, it literally says that ( and that I have "moved on"). Not lol Nixxes.

Same way people said "lol bloober" everywhere.

Now they are respected (and making new experiences NOT remasters)

Posting a gif of what's obviously a kid doing shit like that says a lot, but hey, at least it confirms some things. :goog_lol:

In any event, let's review your first reply...

"Bloodborne players play Bloodborne because it's god tier

Horizon players play Horizon because they can't play Bloodborne
".

Cool. How does that invalidate what I said? "Massive franchise" obviously means sales, much bigger than Bloodborne, yet you quote me with your preference and Bloodborne's difficulty vs Horizon's. It's cool that you prefer it, but it files under "who cares?" in regards to my comment.

I've seen mixed results regarding this so haven't bothered.

I'm more than happy with running it stock for now and keeping the system cool and quiet. It's nice to know there is extra headroom in the processor if I'm willing to up the power limit and start tweaking though, maybe in the future if it has a life outside of being in a living room PC.

I think ZD is a better game that FW. I was pretty let down by FW. Didn't make enough upgrades and I thought they made the armor system worse. And it was way too fucking long, it just went on forever. I thought ZD had a more interesting plot too.

It's all context, my guy. 99% of the time, when people make a statement like you made in your initial post, they mean it in an "X franchise is better than Y franchise" kind of way. That's the way I took it, as did everyone who reacted to your post. I then replied with a joke comment ripping on Horizon in response to what I thought was you ripping on Bloodborne. My comment makes perfect sense in that context (though it looks like you mean literally just sales, not quality).

You then decided to overanalyze a joke comment, made some argument that also missed my context, and threw in some defensive insults. Don't pretend others are being childish when you're acting childish lol

Agreed. The story in HZD was great; HFW's was fair to middling. I also loved the combat in HZD and was disappointed with the changes they made in HFW (more aggressive machines, more reactive, less strategic). I also disliked what they did with the Cauldrons. And although female-first perspective was evident in the first game, it made more sense there; I found it more obtrusive in the second, less believable, and by the time the expansion rolled around, it seemed like nearly everyone was a lesbian, lol. The graphics and sidequests were better in the second game, though, that's for sure.

You were joking? C'mon... :pie_roffles:

In any event, yes, it is all context. Glad you agree. You initially missed said context and that's why we're here. But, I get it. It's text and can happen.
