Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Tried to go on a blackout concerning this game but just couldn't help myself....looks and sounds incredible, exactly the type of game I'll pour an endless amount of hours into.

Just sucks it comes out so close to BotW....wish there was more space between the two.

I feel a bit uncomfortable about the appropriation of Native American concepts in this game. I just watched the quest video and they use "braves" to describe fellow warriors, and there was a costume in the UI referring to "shamans". I mean at least they could do is make up some new words if they're just going to rip off a culture whole cloth like that. At least they changed headdresses to be ribbons instead of feathers.

Perhaps because they're a Dutch developer they're a bit unaware of this issue of appropriation in America, but it doesn't excuse it.

Maybe you don't realize it but Shamans are hardly exclusive to native american culture and the idea behind them is found in cultures all across the globe through out history.

...Do you honestly think shamans are exclusive to Native American culture? Seriously?

Looks pretty good actually, but I can't get it at launch because of Switch and Zelda. Wish it came it a bit earlier but I suppose I can just get it later on.

I got to say, Guerilla Games have done an excellent job at the open-world RPG formula. The graphics and environment look incredible. The post-apocalyptic setting seems cool and I'm intrigued to find out what happened to the old world. Can't wait!

First of all, the word "shaman" has it's orgin in Asia and not native America. Second, what do you think the ancient European tribes looked like?

Hmm...So I'm wondering about the combat, seems like the three skill trees are standard RPG types with a more action-based focus

- Play Aloy like a Warrior/Brute type

- Play Aloy like a Ranged Hunter/Rouge

- Play Aloy like a Mage/Healer type

Can anyone thats played it confirm?
I can't remember the name of the three build types.

Someone, help!

It's obvious these people are based on native american tribes.

"We wanted to create a character who is agile, fast and badass at the same time; a female character very much like Ripley (Alien/ Aliens), Sarah Connor (Terminator) or even Ygritte from GoT." said Guerilla Games' Senior Producer, Mark Norris when asked about what was the main influence when it came to the design of the lead protagonist in Horizon: Zero Dawn, Aloy.

"The native American 'look' is purely coincidental", added Director, Mathis De Jong.

Prowler, Brave, and Forager are the skill trees.

No offense to Ian but he barely likes anything that isnt souls.

Well, he likes indie stuff too.

My thing is that is not just that he "barely likes anything that isnt souls", it's that the way he expresses it that is dismissive, rude and pretty grating. It's a shame because the rest of the Allies are all very respectful and collected with their criticisms of a game, whereas Ian is way too brash about it, to the point that he effectively ruins any chance of an in depth discussion in the podcasts he appears in.

If this doesnt have at least as satisfying bow action like TR Remastered I would be very disapointed.

That game bow felt raw and brutal.

Is this cutscene real? Jesus Christ, my anticipation for this game has dropped like a stone.
lol...yeah, it's not a good one, but if you are genuine, (no offense) it seems to certainly be an outlier. Many of the additional footage shows pretty strong voice-acting and Aloy herself sounds consistently good. Just check out the previews man, I think this one is going to be something special.

i actually don't think it's really that bad, it's more funny IMO, no reason to make a demon possessed man so serious all the time...lol Now we have MEMES of it!

Pokemon Sun and Moon have participated in this delporable behavior as well. It's pretty sad.
