Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Damn I want to support this game, but refuse to play it on my amateur. For me there aren't enough games that take advantage of the pro to warrant the upgrade.

Arrrgh.

This is silly. Just buy the damn game.

It's as funny as people already have a bunch negative ideas formed about the quality of the game without ever having played.Seeing the comments, it seems that many have played, Horizon has not been released and already has an extensive list of haters.

It's an exclusive...

The difference being that every shred of evidence we have indicates that the game is great with very few meaningful flaws. Constantly being a downer on it right now is literally swimming upstream against a flood of overwhelmingly positive impressions. I mean, if people want to take that stance and be completely contrarian on a game that they haven't played and yet is unanimously receiving a glowing response on the small chance that they receive vindication should something go awry with the reviews, that's their prerogative I suppose.

Yeah, but they seem to be mostly feeding off the hype from the people who DID actually play it. Is there a preview out there that one can describe as negative? Everyone seems to be gushing over it or at least looking loving what they've played.

Previews, even reviews for highly anticipated AAA games are generally always positive. We only have to accept that there are people out there that have different taste or less receptive to certain design decisions or aspects of games. No matter how glowing the previews and reviews of games like DA Inquisition, Fallout 4, The Division, Final Fantasy XV, etc were, there are always people who hate them. It's a never-ending cycles. What matters the most is each individual's opinions for the games. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Why should I be bothered with people's negative opinion for the game that I love?

I totally understand the "wait and see" approach. I'm generally against preordering, too.

But isn't resource gathering a core component to pretty much any open world game? He said Primal because that is a game he knows and has played, but he could have easily said Witcher or Dragon Age or whatever.

Not exactly any open world game, but I guess you meant most open world RPG or Action RPG.

Many people has been saying that the open world genre is becoming tired, so having the same core components as the other games is exactly why I said it is more generic than I expected.

He wasn't saying the game played like Far Cry Primal. He said it has gathering for crafting stuff, Far Cry and Don't Starve being his first examples, but then also mentioning RPGs in general. You completely took what he said out of context. Witcher 3 has the exact same systems.

Gathering and crafting are part of the gameplay.

Just because The Witcher 3 is amazing as a whole, doesn't mean copying aspects of it will always be a good idea. The Witcher without great writing wouldn't have been half as good, and I'm not expecting Witcher levels of story and mission design in this game.

Btw, just for the record, I don't agree that it has the exact same systems. I won't extend past that because I don't care about derailing the topic.

"Horizon has a dynamic HUD and you can even customize it to your liking, in terms of what you want to have visible or not."
Mad happy about that. KZSF owl hud was horrible and wasted way too much screen real estate.

It didn't need to be said. Why did your comment need to be posted? We are all just saying what we want to say.

I based my opinion solely on Easy Allies' preview, where they said:

"If you don't like harvesting stuff, if you are not a fan of games like Don't Starve and Far Cry Primal, this might not be the game for you".

There's a good correlation with FC Primal in the sense that I loved the idea of Primal, that's why I bought it on launch, but I couldn't get engaged with its gameplay. So now I think the chance of being burned again is too high.

I'm generally against preordering games so I prefer to wait and see.

Shiiiiiieeeeeet i hate harvesting!!!! I hope that isn't more than the Witcher 3 level of harvesting

Is it known if 40 hours is just main story or main + side quests and optional content?

Do you play all multiplatform games on a high-end PC?
If you think PC gaming offers the best experience that's cool, glad you enjoy and hope you find it fulfilling it but not everyone feels that way.

Only 2 ways to play Horizon though, PS4 and PS4 Pro and one seems to provide an indisputably superior experience. Will be anxiously awaiting the comparison vids.

I'm just curious as to why you're no longer interested in the game based on it being like Far Cry Primal, when all things indicate it plays nothing like Far Cry Primal other than some material gathering.

do u guys get off on being victims

Yes. I'm sat here masturbating furiously over all of this made up persecution.

Or you know, maybe there's a fair amount of people who don't care about the game, have paid no attention to the game, yet come into every thread for the game just to say stuff like "Hey this looks pretty shit right? This single cut scene from the game, yeah? Looks awful, gonna have to wait on reviews for this." even though there's a ton of evidence indicating otherwise that they haven't bothered to look up because they're only interested in the drama.

I mean sure, I'm pretty hyped for the game, but I have no problem with people not liking the look of it. However, when they say "It looks too much like Far Cry" or some other such unfounded criticism, it starts to get irritating because it's from people who aren't interested enough to actually pay attention in the first place.

No just the people that complain about stuff they have no interest in anyway.

I've been a supporter of Guerrilla Games since the very first Killzone. I still believe Killzone 2 is one of the very best first person shooters out there despite the flaws. I believe in Horizon and have a pre-order in and plan to keep it. I can criticize the cut-scene animations if I want too. I'm not a hater nor did I ever not have interest in Horizon.

Criticism is needed to make things better.

How would the PS4 Pro be indisputably superior in ways that a high-end gaming PC wouldn't? For the sake of argument we'll assume playing with a controller on the PC for a console-like experience.

Wouldn't the benefit of PS4 Pro over PS4 be technical? How is that different than a gaming PC's benefit over PS4?

I guess the question would be why bring the PC into the situation when the said poster was having a dilemma for a console exclusive game

Because I'm pointing out why his reasoning is silly. He is under no dilemma. He's saying he won't buy it on PS4 because he doesn't have a PS4 Pro which would provide a superior technical experience. If he feels that way, why would he buy any multiplatform games on console if he doesn't have a gaming PC that would provide a superior technical experience?

Seriously, Witcher 3 has you hop off your horse to pick a herb or two every ten feet.

Guerilla games has some the best artist and designers in the industry. I am still blown away by the architecture and environmental work from Shadowfall. But man, Horizon looks like the stuff I always dreamed up in my head.

I didn't compare a PS4 Pro to PC. I compared Horizon on PS4 to PS4 pro. You are trying to reel in PC comparisons.

Just being polite here, console vs PC gaming isn't a detailed discussion I wish to have, but I'm sure there are plenty of threads you can find for that. I would completely agree however, a beefy PC will outperform a console any day. Not everyone likes dealing with chores it takes to get many games running and other fiddling tasks some feel are cumbersome. So for me those disqualify it from "best possible experience"

something that Horizon sadly do the same. I was a tad disappointed when Alloy on her horse find npc and Alloy had to get off just to talk to npc.

why can't people just stay on the horse and talk damnit. would also make it cooler if my robot horse can pickup items on the ground as well. small nitpick I know.

90+ metacritic here we come!

Slow down there turbo. Initial entries in a series seldom garner such high critical appeal especially in the current gaming environment.

Perhaps the phrase "get off your high horse" gains relevancy here? Kind of condescending to speak to people from a position above them.

HUD seems really cluttered and I just can't help but think the game looks boring just visually and gameplay-wise. I don't know.

I can see upper 80s. The previews from the announcement of the game to now have been great.

You can adjust the HUD to your liking.

Combat is so good, you'll find yourself hunting just for the fun of it. As fluid as they come folks.
Yep, seems to be a common comment from those who have played. Glad that it turned out well.

From the look and sound of it this will be a 90 and up meta easily. And it's just purely single player. Reminds me of mass effect 1. Just feels original and fresh, looks amazing to boot aswell.
I have not preordered yet but holy shit this game....

I'm not sure if you're responding to the write person. I've even wrote on this exact thread about how the facial animations didn't look too hot on that one cut scene and still super hyped for the game. I'm specifically talking about the people who seek and focus on the negative and nothing else.

Some material gathering?

Again, EZA preview:

"Fair warning, there's a lot of harvesting in this game".

"There's a lot of that (harvesting), there's a lot of building of items and upgrading stuff, so if that seems kinda tedious to you, if you don't appreciate doing that stuff (...) be forewarned that there's plenty of that in the game".

And going back to the original quote:

"So if you don't like harvesting stuff, if you are not a fan of games like Don't Starve and FC Primal, this might not be the game for you".

I think you are mistaken in your interpretation. He is not only naming those two games as examples. Which would be like "So if you don't like harvesting stuff, like in Don't Starve and FC Primal, ...".

He goes as far as specifically saying that if you are not a fan of FC Primal, you might not like this game.

Not only I'm not a fan of FC Primal, I didn't like it.

When quoting stuff you will always take them out of their context, but in this case I don't think it changes the interpretation of what he said.

You may agree or not, I don't care, I'm just answering to your question of why I'm not interested, which I also have to clarify, I never said I'm not interested on the game, I specifically said I plan to buy it at a later date.

However, when they say "It looks too much like Far Cry" or some other such unfounded criticism, it starts to get irritating because it's from people who aren't interested enough to actually pay attention in the first place.

They are called opinions. They don't need to hold up in court. Maybe try relaxing a little.

Hmmm...seems like a streamlined version of Monster Hunter to me, very opposite of boring for my gaming taste. You can also adjust the hud to be very minimalistic.

Please tell me Aloy has some night vision googles or eye enhancers on... this not how nightfall looks in a jungle:

WTF... this is even worse...

Is there any open world game that doesn't have resource gathering/harvesting, weapon upgrading?

I don't play that many open-world games, only bought Witcher 3 recently, but I assumed it was the default way to control character progression within an open-world, stop the player from going too far too soon. I guess Guerrilla could break the mould but I don't know how that would work?
