Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

haha what? yeah let's play in pitch black jungle... smh

I think this looks great, guerilla making good choices.

actually it would look pretty cool if it was pitch black with only the glowing eyes of those mech creatures and the few torches lying around giving you any light source...

So mostly Positive previews on reading through the thread!! That's good to know .
Any craxy stuff happened in between , please let me know.

I WAS hoping the nighttime would be darker. I just imagined the lights from the creatures being a substantial light source. Would have looked so cool. But the way they have it will be better for gameplay purposes.

Pitch black, you see one red glowing light, thinking its a cute watcher, get close, more light turn on, it's actually giant thunderjaw.

The HUD can be customized as you please. The game probably isn't for you, and that's OK. No need to lose sleep over it.
I'm not.

He just stood out in that one thread to me, because he basically highjacked the whole discussion for many pages by claiming Horizon looked so bland and boring while Breath of the Wild looked graphically superior.
I think I just like stylized graphics and art styles over more realistic ones. Horizon looks good, it just doesn't have a flare to it. It's gameplay reminds me of a mix of Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed 3, mostly AC. AC's gameplay gets really old and boring to me after a while. That's just what it looks like, well see.

I know it's not fair to compare Horizon with best open world traversal ever, but after Gravity Rush 2, I hope there is more than horse/robo riding.
Fun traversal is very important to open world game for me.

I read earlier that there wouldn't be any aero-mounts (which would also mean the 4chan rumor was spurious).

Some robo riding, some running, some "platforming" is what I expect with the occasional Zipline from the traversal in this game. Thankfully, it probably won't be an issue since everything seems pretty condensed.

I don't mean flying mount, just some more fun little thing like shield surfing, air gliding, make traveling from point A to point B more enjoyable.

Not that I'm aware of. There's fast-travel if you want to get to places quickly, Broadheads to mount, ziplines, and running/swimming/mountain climbing.

I just feel like you have blinders on or something man. I mean, both games are stylized (in different ways, sure, but nonetheless). Horizon just looks SO MUCH BETTER. It would be hard for someone to say otherwise. You act like there is no art direction to Horizon.

Bear in mind, I don't think Zelda looks outright bad. And I LOVE the character models and the way they're shaded on Zelda.

I'm not trying to bring the game down. I think it looks absolutely amazing. I just disagree with the developer's choice to have such a bright night time setting. The mood and atmosphere would be much more interesting and intense if it was darker like FFXV:

I wouldn't want it THAT dark but I'd definitely love if it was at a midway point between what it is and FFXV in that gif.

I'm pretty sure Mathis de Jonge tweeted a BIG hint that you can hack the birdbot & fly over the map.

Eurogamer Portugal reported that there would be no flying mounts or underwater exploration. I suppose they could be wrong, but that was part of their report on this event.

Is it just me or does the jump animation look weird? I saw the EZA video and the normal jumping looks like how Spiderman would jump. Anyway, game looks gorgeous and I hope it kinda plays like Tomb Raider. I'm pretty sure I'll be playing this (either by borrowing someone's copy or buying it).

Just blame it on the earth atmosphere changing lol .
Still need to see how dense HZD map is and if i would like it so dark .
FFXV was rather empty so it never cause any problems .

This is sort of a consequence of not creating proper jump physics. If you try to Jump normally in Uncharted for example, you get a similar but slightly less awkward jump.

I think it's also the color choices and the contrast. Which is a welcoming change from Killzone where everything so gray and gloomy.

I sort of wish they polished their animations. It ruins the immersion for me. I hope this games does well.

I kind of hate how she doesn't seem to put any strenght in drawing her bow back. It makes those arrows she shoots with perfect precision and distance a bit lame.

Well, the game had to be designed with Hitscan weapons. Could you imagine trying to play this with Projectile weapons? And the combat is way too fast to make a slow Draw speed viable.

Also I never got a confirmation but is it possible to use gyro controls with this because I really don't want Strafe aiming to be a thing on higher difficulties where aim-assist is turned off.
