If anybody needs a gif from this gameplay, I got the video to make the gifs.
You can ask the same for dozens of other games. The challenge and diversity will come from the area design where battles take place and the mixture of enemies (much like how a shmup can deliver drastically different battles by having different combinations of enemies)
I always feel the sense of getting more powerful is the main thing that keeps me going with action based games. I loved Prototype and Sunset Overdrive for the sheer satisfaction when you can mow through the enemies or can approach in a wholly different way by getting a new skill or weapon.
Yeah but the game is very open, you can avoid them if needed.
What's the incentive to fight if you have already lots of stuff. And the less you fight, the less you waste ressources. Some fights has to be mandatory to progress the story but I don't see the point of the optional ones after a certain point. And since I haven't seen interesting gameplay besides the combat (No interesting traversal or puzzles or anything else other than combat really), that's a bit problematic IMO.
I think AI and reactivity is where that flashpoint lies.Yep I am well aware. I just always have this knawing feeling, even with Horizon that we haven't seen the full potential of open world design. Like we need that "over the shoulder" moment for open world games in general.
Funny thing is, I also consciencely thought to myself how the game seems to borrow almost everything from many other recent, popular titles. Like the crafting, the hunting/gathering, the skill tree, the traders, the open world structure, the scanning, the use of tools and traps as supplements to your weapons. It's almost like the game is ticking off a standardized list of popular gameplay elements.
Becuase Zelda is Nintendo, and they can do no wrong.OK, but why Horizon and not zelda or every other Open World game? I have never seen a game get so much criticism for doing what most open world games have? Not to mention the premise and setup for the game is unique imo.
I think AI and reactivity is where that flashpoint lies.
We've had open worlds with great graphics, with massive and massively varied worlds, with unique eras like in RDR and Assassins Creed, with interesting mechanics like GTAV's three protagonists, with story-driven focus like Mafia and free-form designs like Minecraft
But even the best NPCs like those in Watch Dogs 2 still feel artificial and the worlds can still feel so static. I actually think STALKER might be one of most original/innovative open world games, in how active its world felt
Hopefully, indie games like Rain World might inspire more focus on AI in open worlds
YesWhat an odd analysis: an action rpg full of action rpg systems.
Games don't develop on vaccums, all these things are good additions from a gameplay perspective. They're making an open world game, and most of this stuff just makes sense.
What matter is /how/ they're implemented.
Those are perfectly valid arguments, I'm definitely not saying I'm right. It's just something I'd like to see.I understand what you mean .
Still with her having so many types of arrows some of that might feel redundant .
With how easy it is to kill the smaller ones ( 1 or 2 hits in the eye) or with you able to hack them .

I never said they don't make good games, there is a difference between a great game and a good game. And metacritic is a useless measure for that.
Make a thread on Gaf with a poll between best of Zelda games and best of Guerilla games and see which one wins. Make a thread between Call of Duty 4 and Killzone 2, Half Life 2 and Killzone 2, hell Portal 2 and Killzone 2 and most likley Killzone will lose all of those. Killzone is still a weaker Sony franchise than the Santa Monica or Naughty Dog ones, there is a reason why Guerrilla decided on a clean slate for Horizon.
Zelda will always get more of a pass than Guerilla, I never said it is fair but it is true.
A lot of open-world games face criticism nowadays, the reason why Horizon is getting the brunt of it is because it is being pushed hard by Sony and is thus more visible to people. Mafia 3 was heavily criticezed for its boring open world, Mad Max as well. Even Shadow of Mordor, it just coasted along thanks to its Nemesis system.
Name literally one person ITT who requested this. Or hell even implied it.Can't believe there are posters ITT that are wishing the combat was more like The Witcher 3 lmao.
Or this. Also people criticising Horizon for being heavily reliant on dodge rolls and in the same breath saying the combat should be more like Bloodborne
Maybe there are some areas where the corruption is fucking up the air. I feel like that's a good bet.Oxygen bar, eh? Do we have any idea what the oxygen bar may be for? They already ruled out underwater traversal, so ...
ALOY IN SPACE!
Does anyone have the gif of Mario chasing the moving goalpost???
Maybe there are some areas where the corruption is fucking up the air. I feel like that's a good bet.
Who is moving goalposts?
Killzone 2 was set up to be the Halo killer, it failed. I have no problem with people who think it is a great game, but for most of the gaming populace it wasn't even in the top 3 FPSs of that generation.
And as I said before Killzone is a weaker Sony brand than either Uncharted or God of War. Asking why Zelda gets more of a pass than a Guerilla game is almost a rhetorical qeustion. It's Zelda.

Since when is mainstream popularity any indication of anything regarding quality?
If your franchise is poised to be one of the flagships of the entire console, it always has. Killzone 2 was marketed as one of the biggest Sony games ever its unveiling, let's not pretend it was some small game that could have gone under people's radars.

That doesn't answer my question.
Of course it does, Killzone 2 achieved mainstream popularity and is by most people not regarded as highly as Halo or Call of Duty Modern Warfare. At that point popularity has nothing to do about it and it isn't mainstream. Like I said make a thread on GAF with a poll and it will lose out to Halo and Call of Duty 90% of the time.
This is all very basic stuff :/
Um no, that doesn;t answer my question, something not garnering as much mainstream success means nothing regarding quality. The Wire, the best TV show ever, had horrible ratings for instance. What takes off in the mainstream can often be not as good as things that are less popular. Not saying that's the case, but something being more mainstream means nothing. KZ was not a mainstream shooter period, too weighty, slower paced.

Most of that is a basic part of an RPG.Yeah, the game looks like a "best of: popular modern game mechanics" with awesome visuals. Obviously it can still turn out good in spite (or because) of that.
Think I'll just peak at the Metacritic score I'm the review thread and bounce can't imagine it being anything other than a battlefield*enters thread*
*sees people arguing about GG's previous work*

Love having to waste my time uploading a screenshot because someone can't even be bothered to read the first page of a thread.
Lmfao so a dude very blatantly projecting with an ad hominem avatar quote attempt is your idea of someone requesting Witcher combat in Horizon? Yeaok.gif![]()

It's so weird this comments only appear on horizon threads, while on zelda we get "second coming of jesus" praise posts. Lol.
Game has mechanics appropriate to it's genre. It's common sense. Add to that the amazing art and the interesting character and lore. But no, muh rehash game, muh ubisoft game.
Yeah, gaf threads about this game bordering on unreadable at this point.
