Combat looking really, really scrappy. Which surprised me. Good to see that the enemies are damn aggressive, but the player just got stunlocked a few times in a row pretty much.

Still finding combat boring, With those kind of cool enemy machines they could have done so much more. Combat is limited to ranged and roll, roll, roll.

Well i find The Witcher 3 combat boring too. But i loved it because of its world building, interesting quest writing and really great atmosphere. All of these i don't see in Horizon.

They could have given much more importance to melee combat, for example.

Aloy's character animation is in general really good but seriously not a fan of that her walk/sprint cycle. Just a bit derpy compared to all the other things. :|

I beg to differ but it is what it is.

I guess but I don't think it syncs up well with other things. Aloy is outmatched by the robos in power and she utilizes her knowledge and tactical prowess to make up for that power difference. It wouldn't add up for her to melee a towering Thunderjaw to oblivion.

You probably think it would have been better to build it around melee from the beginning but yeah. I think ranged has its merits. It just isn't your preference.

It's still terrible
GAF hyperbole aside it's actually quite good. Especially when you figure out how iframes work and realize that you have a vast moveset of tools and concoctions at your disposal. It's truly a witcher simulator in that regard aside from regenerating health.

don't ask me for codes
Equip the right outfit and mods, use stealth, place traps, aim at vulnerable spots with the right weapons, and you can take down enemies quite easily.

Randomly shooting at a robot with your standard arrow and you're going to be suffering for a long time.

I bet u dont like DS either. Hit, dodge, roll, hit, back step, roll, hit, hit... I could go on.

Witcher combat is not very limited, there are really extensive build guides for The Witcher 3.

It is very limited, Bomb/potions are accessories, it all comes down to sword play which is average at best. Same 2-3 animations over and over, very little variety. You can win every fight in TW3 doing the same thing over and over. The animations/movement/control are not good. At best TW3 combat is serviceable at best.

Compared to what open world RPG? Previews all were high on the combat... Saying it is just roll, roll, roll is reductionist at its finest.

There are literally builds focused solely on using the sword as little as possible. And the game has quite a large variety of contextual animations including finishers which are well animated. Geralt has very little animation priority and none of the controls feel out of place for the corresponding action. Your post is literally a perfect example of what I meant by hyperbole. I understand what that dude is saying, because the focus is mainly on bows first and foremost it remains to be seen how well that carries throughout the whole game and if they've been holding back a lot of equipment and gameplay elements. Aloy mentioned "Can't ride those...I wonder where I'd learn to do that.." while looking at an enemy. Meaning there may be more mounts in the late game. Curious how feasible stealth is in this game as a main play style since the RPG focus may stop instant death ranged shots.

Then stop personally choosing to do that.

In Dark Souls you can still change weapons to have different movesets when you feel combat is starting to become boring, can try both ranged and melee approach.

Roll seems the only effective way to evade machines attacks. They are extremely powerful and quick in their reactions so avoiding the attack just by dodging don't seems to be viable.
