Horizon Zero Dawn livestream

(Shhhh, you're not allowed to criticize Aloy's appearance here... It makes you look like a woman hater)
Complaining about a female characters's appearance not because of the character design itself but because of things like not looking like every other female video game character ever whether it's complaints about the facial structure, (even worse, comparing it to a man's), is incredibly sexist. Rarely if ever have I ever seen people complain about a male character's jawline, let alone compare it to a woman's.

(Shhhh, you're not allowed to criticize Aloy's appearance here... It makes you look like a woman hater)
You are certainly allowed to, but it just makes you look bad because it means you want a female playable character to look more attractive, while male characters don't have to meet the same standard. If you're right, it means we can never have a female of less than stunning appearance as a protagonist

If you want to play as an attractive woman in a game there are tons that let you do that. Why can't there be someone that looks different in just one

All enemies seem to do this

This is why having robot enemies is such a great idea - it plays up to the videogame-ness of the gameplay.

Because the enemies are robots, they get flashing tells, charge up moves, ranged weapons, glowing weak points, and all the mechanics you'd associate with video game bosses which makes the fights varied and fun.

It would make no sense if the enemies were biological. You can't have a Stegosaurus suddenly switch to missile pods once you leave melee range.

Like there is no such women exists in the world and its a sin if she does.

The girl she's based on is lovely and looks much better than the CG model.

In this entire game everything, the foliage, the creature design, the aesthetic of the world, its all beautiful. In fact, Aloy in her concept art (and previous designs) looks great.

The in-game model, especially in certain angles, still looks off. Literally every other incarnation of Aloy, her real life counterpart, her artwork, even random girls who cosplay her, all look better.

I'm honestly done with this argument though, I'm allowed to not like her design. If someone said the new Zelda looked weird because of her bushy eyebrows, or Link looked to girly, I'd respect their opinion. I dont like Aloy's dumb hair and her manly jaw, she has a nice face, but the CG model fucked up the way she looks at certain angles imo.

Should've just gone with this concept art:

I'm not gonna continue this argument any further because it always turns sour and no-one ends up agreeing, its an opinion.

I can't think of that many American games that do. I can't think of many American games that let you play as a woman, let alone an attractive one.

You literally just need to soften that jaw and she'd look fine.

She looks lovely in this random fanart

As I said in another Horizon thread, it's interesting to see how much care has been put into making Aloy look appealing, but not necessarily attractive.

If she was too hot, there'd be the backlash that she's being oversexualised and objectified.

If she was too plain, she wouldn't appeal as a heroic figure that both men and women would want to play as.

So she treads that line. She's athletic but not lean, she appears to be average height, she's young but freckled, doesn't show skin but has a unique style, and has quite pretty eyes (I didn't know they had mascara in the apocalypse) and high cheekbones, but a wider, more masculine jawline.

Pointy nose, jaw and cute girlie face, like not done in previous game at all. Also i am not saying if its look good or bad to you , its your opinion, but saying we are all criticising others just because they don't like the looks and not the hyperbolic statement they are making while comparing her to the men, is really Pathetic.

Regarding every random girl looking like concept art or beautiful than aloy.
I will ask her to do some surgery to reduce his jawline and that broad nose.

You are now making borderline sexist remark, please just stop.

So basically what you're saying is: Thay made her pretty, and then gave her a masculine jaw to fulfil the "BUT SHE'S A REALISTIC WOMAN" rhetoric. You LITERALLY just need to soften her jaw and she'd be brilliant.

What's funny is that loads of guys are posting saying they think she's attractive, and I honestly think GG designed her with that in mind, because so many of her other features are attractive.

They did a netherealm games, where they tried to make her attractive but failed.

The fact that they went against all these design is what make her design interesting imo.

I find her beautiful.

Except the random girl in your photo is by far better looking than Aloy in literally every way so what are you talking about? And hey, guess what, you can do an "interesting design" without giving her a manly jaw. Literally everything else about her is obviously meant to be attractive. She's got gorgeous eyes, a literally perfect nose, long flowing hair, a nice body that appeals to every taste... They just fucked up on her model and gave her too big of a jaw, bigger than the model she's based on.

This jaw has nothing to do with "Interesting and unique design". It's bad modelling on a character that is obviously meant to be good looking

Here's some random fanart where she looks exactly the same but with a less manjaw

I'm loving the contradictions here, people saying "SHE'S NOT MEANT TO BE ATTRACTIVE" and other people saying "SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL THOUGH"

ok guys.

The whole point isn't to be attractive to dudes who seemingly fathom a woman who doesn't have the exact same jawline as every other female video game character. Jesus christ you're incredibly transparent sexism is ugh....them going against the concept art which looks INCREDIBLY typical in terms of beauty standards is part of what makes her design praiseworthy. Regarding your post above, the point is, she's not meant to be titillating to a perceived male audience, or sexists like you, but still retains a sense of attraction due to having few noticeable flaws in her features besides her teeth.

Dude. Why is it a surprise that not everybody finds one character universally beautiful. To state the obvious, different people are attracted to different things

Subjective beauty ideals are contradictory among a bunch of people - is not some grand uncovering of an sjw plot or whatever you're thinking

Are you not getting the point i am making. The broad jawline point people are making ,in the cosplay i was highlighting that only, that the aloy also has this beautiful structure to his face which may not be likeable to your Pointy looking gamer girls face.

Simple fact is , she's not meant to be attractive/sexualised like cindy in Final fantasy or other girls in gaming , but that doesn't mean she's not attractive in her own.

I'm a girl. I don't want her to lose the jaw because I want to fap to her. This has nothing to do with sexism.

Bayonetta is my favourite game and the titular character has ridiculous proportions and an absurd design, but she's still nice to look at. All the characters I play in Tekken are girls, I don't fap to them, I think they're pretty. I was upset with Lili's new costume because it was badly designed.

I dont like Aloys jaw because its failed design, its the game modellers fucking up. This has nothing to do with her looking realistic, this is the same mistake Netherealm studios makes with their girls. I can't play as any of their games because every character I like looks like an ogre. A huge fan of supergirl, I was so upset when I saw her new design. Don't judge me because I want my favourite character to not look like garbage.

Aloy is literally a 1:1 likeness with Hannah Hoekstra in terms of facial structure yet peeps are saying that GG made her jawline "more manly." FOH with that shit:

Even as a woman your posts ITT are still laden with sexism. Look at the above, the model is a 1:1 with the actress via digital scanning. Nothing about her jaw is manly. Not all women have small pointy chins.

Bad modeling my ass lol. They have had all the time in the world to model this character.

What is this? A single unattractive or typically non-feminine feature is not a "failure of design". If every character was designed to be beautiful they'd all look like clones.

The model has a longer face and stronger cheekbones so the jaw works with her. Aloys face is round and has puppy fat, which looks nicer with a soft jaw. Like Eva from MGS3 or Nina Williams from Tekken. Like I said, I think the model is beautiful (especially in the bottom right picture, I'd love if aloy looked like that). Aloy is not, and you've all admitted so, either by saying "women don't need to look like models" or "I like how she's imperfect". Even though her model looks like a supermodel.

Most western models have quite strong jaws, this isn't about "all girls looking like clones". Every girl in Tekken looks different, but they've all got nicer models. Ling has a small diamond face, nina has stronger features, anna and Alisa have rounder faces with soft jaws. All of them are lovely (although I play as lili because I like her dress and the underbite she had in T6 and TTT2.

I actually hated how they barbied her up in Tekken Revolution.

Every Zelda looks different, new Zelda has bushy-ass eyebrows, she still looks beautiful, and is probably my favourite.

A round face shouldn't have a jawline like that.

Literally a scan of the actress yet you're still trying to argue that they made huge adjustments.

Just stop.

Well I'm being labeled as sexist for wanting to play as a character who doesn't have a wonky design. Even though all her features are meant to be attractive, and she's based on an attractive woman, and she's been given personality traits that are attractive.

I'll stick with Bayonetta, Nier, Tekken, Resident Evil, Mirrors Edge, Metroid, Fatal Frame, Beyond Good and Evil, Walking Dead, Fallout, Splatoon and Zelda BoTW, where the girls are represented as likeable, well designed characters.

I came in this thread hoping to read about some good excitement towards this game and found this.

Christ GAF.

I said I didn't want to talk about this. I was hoping I wouldn't have six people to jump on me for expressing my dislike towards her design. I've tried not to be volatile but all I've had is people jump down my throat. I'm sorry I don't think she's got the best design in the history of all gaming.

I'm not a sexist person, as a girl I'm glad more games this gen let you play as girls, I like how we're better represented more these days. I just like playing as better designed characters. It's why I'll always prefer Tekken over Mortal Kombat (also Tekken's a better game anyway).

Aloy uses Dutch actress Hannah Hoekstra for likeness:

Voice actor is Ashly Burch:
Ashly Burch (born June 19, 1990) is an American actress, voice actress,[1][2][3] singer, and writer[4][5] known for her role as the voice of Tiny Tina in the video game Borderlands 2,[6] the web series Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'?, and Mayuri Shiina from Steins;Gate among others.

She is a storyline writer on the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time[7] and voiced Chloe in the video game Life Is Strange, for which she won the Golden Joystick Award for Best Performance.[8] She is also the host of Geek & Sundry's Unplugged series.[9]

Tell me Hannah Hoekstra isn't clearly a classically attractive woman (literally a 10/10). She clearly is. The Horizon engine clearly failed in capturing her beauty

are people actually criticizing GG for the design of the character? it's whatever the artists want to do with the character design that the looks should be, complaining about the design of the character from an attractiveness point of view (or most other points of view) is absolutely stupid and wrong on many levels.
and people wonder why the gaming community has a bad reputation.

I'm not trying to change anyone else's opinion. I was just expressing my own. Dislike to how characters are portrayed in media is not exclusive to gaming. In fact, it can be way worse when it comes to TV.

is there a pic of Hannah Hoekstra cosplaying as Aloy? with GG really encouraging cosplay like giving out cosplay guide, doing youtube video, etc. kinda hope they had Hannah Hoekstra do an official one with Aloy.

A round face shouldn't have a jawline like that.

lolwut...

people come in all shapes and sizes bruh.
Women can gave bigger jawlines.
It's also perfectly okay to have a protagonist that has flaws.

Feel free to dislike the character model, but to say it is something that needs to be fixed or implying it's a bad character design is what people are shitting on you for.
Because it's not something that needs fixing. It's been intentionally designed that way.

Hell, i'd be quite annoyed if they started weakening her jawline in the sequel.

Can we move on from Cloukyo's shitposting? I'm supposed to be on media blackout but my resolve hasn't been watertight and I keep peeking in here for juicy bits of info and gifs to fuel my hype! I'm really looking forward to exploring the environment most of all. The scenery looks spectacular.

Hehe same for me. I wish I had the funds for a pro right now just for this game.

one of the first things that stuck out to me in the E3 reveal as the character design. Aloy looked like an actual person living in a post apocalyptic "frontier" all of her life. no comic/manga inspired "flashiness" that plagues most character design these days.

game could be a complete dumpster fire for all i know but the design is the most believable i've seen perhaps in any game

I totally agree.

Well, I just preo-ordered today. Now I need to finish up GR2 and then start and finish UC4 before this releases
